A program known as “A Safe Ride to School” is to provide assurance that the students of the Mirwais Mena School for Girls can travel safely to and from their classrooms. The school is in located Kandahar. It is the only school for more than five hundred Afghan girls. Majority of the girls have to travel several miles from surrounding villages to get to class. The reason for this program is because in 2008, several girls on their way to school were attacked by men with acid, a common tactic used by the Taliban, who oppose education for females. Despite the attack, the school stayed open. With the constant help of generous donations from people, Greatergood.org was able to get a school bus that transports the girls safely to
The Taliban regime was infamous for its treatment of women. Windows had to be painted black so men could not look into the windows of houses and see the women inside. Women were unable to work. Under Taliban rule, women were not allowed to be educated, unable to go to school or university. 9 out of 10 Afghan women are illiterate. Unfortunately, Meena was unwillingly cast into the role of teacher to young girls who wanted to learn how to read. Because she had been to university, girls flocked to...
People are homeless and people are poor right now but they still survive because of the people who are good at heart. They give them hope that they can survive. Gerta Klein and Anne Frank survived with countless reasons why but the biggest one was hope, hope that better things are yet to come. People are struggling to survive and have been, but you can help make a difference in their lives.
The reason is they are impacting globally. I will not deny that coming from a third world country which is the Philippines, has an impact on my decision to pick an international nonprofit organization. Sure enough, my country has benefited from these type of organizations. Save the Children is impacting not just in a small scale, they are making a difference to the world. Moreover, this organization was ranked 26th and rated 4 star among top 100 nonprofit organizations around the world. That alone did not convince me, I dug
When deciding on which non-profit organization to give resources to, a person must think of a number of questions that need to be answered in which to choose a certain one. The most pertinent of these questions is the one that asks which cause the person cares about the most. The problem, for a majority of the population, is that they just do not know what they truly care about. That is why the United Way is the best option for donations. The United way does not focus on one specific, but instead works for a variety of different causes focused on fixing some of the different problems inside of the United States. The United Way is an organization, which envisions a world where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability and healthy lives. It plans to do this by improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good. The United Way needs money and time in order to achieve some of these goals. This essay will explain why the United Way is the best organization to give ones resources to.
“We organize and advocate to prevent and end homelessness, because we believe that housing is a human right in a just society.” They are similar to the national coalition for the homeless, but, of course, are focused locally, in Chicago. They run several programs and campaigns focusing mostly on community outreach and immediately helping those experiencing homelessness. They have a program that gives homeless legal education and assistance, and a re-entry program to help the recently unincarcerated find housing and jobs, as well as a general 'Jobs ' program, creating work for the homeless.

Swat Valley didn’t always be the way it is now. Before, it was a “picturesque.” It was not only a popular honeymoon destination, but Swat Valley was known for it’s music and tolerance towards their people. (Taliban Gun Down Girl Who Spoke Up for Women’s Right) But in 2007, everything changed. Swat Valley was stricken with the Taliban’s new, harsh rules. It became a dangerous and overwhelming place to be. TV and music were banned for everyone and the women had it worse. They could no longer hold a job, go to school, and enjoy shopping. (Malala’s Dream: A Brave Teen From Pakistan…) Women were isolated. Ziauddin Yousafzai’s school for girls was one of ...
Greg Mortenson is a truly influential person. He has built over 120 schools in central Asia. Mortenson believes that the real long term answer to terrorism “lies in education rather than fighting” (402). He has won multiple Pakistani humanitarian awards and has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize two years in a row (Mortenson and Relin, 127). Mortenson built his first school in 1994 in a Pakistani village called Korphe. Korphe is situated at the base of K2, the world’s second highest mountain. Mortenson stumbled upon this tiny village after a failed attempt to climb the peak in honor of his late sister Christa. (Mortenson and Relin, 136). Since building the school in Korphe, Mortenson has built multiple schools around Pakistan and Afghanistan. His focus is on educating girls about the world around them. By building schools in third world countries, Greg Mortenson is impeding terrorism.

Engineering is an occupation that deals with the building and designing of new or improved products. To succeed in the field you have to skills in science, math and technology. While searching for possible charities to do my Civic Engagement Project on, one charity immediately captured my attention. The charity that grabbed my attention is an organization that is called Water.org. This organization is a nonprofit American aid association that focuses on breaking down the barriers between sanitation, water and people. This organization is the outcome from the union formed between WaterPartners founded, by Gary White, and H2O Africa, founded by Matt Damon. Water.org believes that the best way to break the never-ending cycle of poverty is through the power of something so simple, water. This organization is cofounded by both Garry White and Matt Damon. They have been running this organization for 25 years and have already managed to impact more than four million lives worldwide. Water.org knows that charity will not soley solve a problem with such maginitude. Therefore they have a Watercredit initiative that makes it possible for people to take out small loans which are conveniently payable.
There are several organizations that are found to help people around the world. One organization is the Good Shepherd of North America or the Sisters of Good Shepherd, although it did not just begin like that. The reason it was founded was to help people, especially those who do not have a place to stay or are struggling. Let us first start with the Sisters of Good Shepherd which was founded by Five Sisters, under the name of Our Lady Charity of the Good Shepherd in 1835. The reason the Sisters of Good Shepherd are important is because they are the reason Good Shepherd has established, and it also started there while it began in Louisville, Kentucky on December 1st of 1842. It began as a way to help children, women, and families, especially
In an ever globally growing society, a sustainable mindset is necessary. To accomplish common good for all, selfless leaders must rise to implement acts of service out of faith. Hope’s liberal arts perspective is geared toward shaping such individuals. Personal family values motivate me to seek this ideal of leadership and service. As a present student, I wish to capitalize upon the abundant opportunities for the acquisition of knowledge that spark my thirst for curiosity. But Hope also provides other experiences, and the Phelps Scholar community has delivered the experiences I predicted it would as I sought to expose myself to a more diverse environment. As a lifelong student now, and later, I pray to bring Hope College’s mission statement to fruition in order to lead and serve others.
In my initial essay, I described nonprofits (specifically charitable nonprofits) as having the ultimate purpose of solving problems, although most are unsuccessful in this task. This was a misguided attempt on my part to pin down an entire sector that I had never thought about in the abstract before. I do believe that there are many nonprofits that are actively working toward solving society’s problems, but there are also nonprofits that are only trying to mitigate problems such as a soup kitchen, try to educate such as a nonprofit school, and try to improve the quality of life such as a symphony. The sector is incredibly vast, making it difficult to describe it as a whole.
The Lee County Humane Society is a great organization that give a lot of people opportunities to go out and help the community and help make a change for the animals and their lives. I have definitely given a lot of thought about this organization and will probably be
