Goal Setting
In the first article that I found It stated that Goal Setting is a formal process for personal planning, and is a form of motivation. It is used for a target that a person works for so they can be successful. The process of goal setting is used by many people throughout the world that are trying to and have already achieved something in their lifetime.
Setting goals helps a person remain focused on being successful, stay away from
distractions, and will help with motivation. There are two types of goal setting:
Long-term, and Short-term goals. Short-term goals are smaller goals that are “easier” to
achieve, and will keep the person motivated and continue to strive for success. They also
are goals that lead up to the Long-term goals. The Long-term goals are usually the goals
that give you a vision of what you are trying to accomplish. These type of goals can also be called Lifetime Goals.
When setting goals, one must remember to set clearly defined goals that are not
impossible to achieve. After achieving the goals that you set for yourself, you will start to become confident, motivated, and realize your abilities. After realizing your abilities, you might find yourself setting higher goals that are more difficult for you to accomplish, but with the confidence you acquired from your previous goals, you are more likely to accomplish the more difficult goals. This particular article used eight broad guidelines to help set effective goals:
1- State each goal as a positive statement
2- Be precise
3- Set priorities
4- Write goals down
5- Keep operational goals small
6- Set performance goals, not outcome goals
7- Set realistic goals

I would set unrealistic goals, and outcome goals not performance goals. After reading the
articles, it motivated me to start setting goals for myself, and try to become the best
person I can. There are so many things that I want to accomplish, and now I know how I
can get started on achieving them. I realized I have to start with setting Short-term goals that are precise, positive, organized, and realistic. These goals will keep me motivated and I will continue to strive for success. I would also have to set Long-term visual goals so my Short-term goals would lead up to something positive for my life.
Overall, These articles made me believe that goal setting is a very important part of being successful, and I believe that everyone should use this process.

The first step in reaching a long-term goal is to understand the S.M.A.R.T. goal process. Simply using the words specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound can be a bit confusing. After a bit of research, I was able to better define the method. Using a S.M.A.R.T. Goal worksheet provided by Tatt (2012), I was able to understand the definition of each word in the acronym. In other words, specific stands for the who, what, where, why, and when of the goal. Measurable is explained by asking how much, how often, and how many. Attainable asks if the goal achievable. Relevant is defined as how it applies to your ultimate vision. Finally, time-bound is a time-restraint you establish to complete the specific goal. Furthermore, there is a section for intention or in other words, the long-term goal (Tatt, 2012). By filling out this worksheet I was able to first state my intention and then break it down further into smaller specific goals that would eventually lead up to the final picture. By choosing just one specific goal at a time and achieving that success, it becomes much easier to complete your overall dream.
You should also have a willingness to expand your efforts and reach your goals. Understand how hard you are willing to work to achieve your goals. Then analyze if you generally pick easy goals that can be quickly reached or those that require hard work and some time to achieve. This will help you determine the quality of your goals.

To make these feel more achievable it is better to break these down into smaller medium-term goals and medium-term goals into short-term goals so that you have a clear connection between what one does every day and their long-term goals.
Many of us set goals for ourselves. In turn, these goals motivate us to work hard to achieve success. Goals drive an individual's daily motivation. Goals such as getting a Master's degree, having a high-paying job, getting married, purchasing an expensive car, or mortgaging a home drive a person to succeed. When setting a goal, a person must remember that taking small steps to achieve it helps keep up a positive attitude.
Setting goals is the most important thing you can do in your life. Without goal's you are going to have no direction, no ambition to be successful, no drive to stay in school, and trouble finding a career that will provide for you. Without these three things, achieving your goals is going to be one of the toughest tasks in the years to come.
Having the right goals makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning. They are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. I maintain high expectations for myself by creating goals such as getting into medical school and ending high school with a 4.0 GPA that are difficult, but within reach. Short term want to be obtained anywhere from 1 day to 3 months, intermediate goals reach from 3 to 6 months and long term goals are set for 6 months and beyond long term is anything that wants to be accomplished.
Once you set your goal, you need to start getting more specific. It moves from a dream into reality. Make a plan, it must move from your mind to a piece of paper. Write down the things that you need to do. What do you want to achieve? What will be your life when you achieve your goal? Things that you need to be done. Things that you want to learn more about your goal. Qualities that you admire in others. Improves the qualities you have. Habits that you want to stop and habits that you want to improve.
There can be no success without goals or targets. This is because success is relative to a set target and whether we have achieved it, or at least making steady progress towards attaining it. For you to succeed, set a goal, a measurable target that represents what you envision: that is what you want or where you see yourself in future. A goal should be measurable so as to enable you to monitor your progress and help you know whether you are on track or you have gone off.
