The world is going crazy. I wonder why our world is at such a grave unrest? Why it is that one civilisation is hostile towards other? Why a nation stands against another? Why some religious fanatics kill innocent people naming them as rituals commanded by god? But the truth being it is their personal purpose which they want to achieve, not at all bothered by the fact that their act can have an adverse effect on others. Today neighbours quarrel with one another and forget about neighbours, now even among the family members there is no love, compassion, affection. The world we live in has turned into a battle field; where every man wanted to save guard oneself against all odds and to foster his selfish interests. Global citizenship is a phenomenon that cannot be taught; rather, it must be developed and cultivated. By encouraging our children to share their opinions and explore their own values, while respecting the values and opinions of others, we are creating a foundation for a contributing global citizen that lasts a lifetime. A global citizen should be globally responsible which means appreciating that there is a world beyond us; a world we are a part of and one that we can – and should – play an active role in improving. While learning about different places, cultures, issues, and governments, and should promote global solidarity which is to recognize each individual person as a part of one human family – regardless of ethnic, national, racial, gender, economic, political or ideological differences. It is also necessary to recognize the dignity of each individual and of a group of people by understanding others as our brothers and sisters for whom we have responsibility. Each person, as a global citizen, has a role to play in bringing peace to the world. A Global Citizen is someone who: • is aware of the wider world and has a sense of their own role as a world citizen • respects and values diversity • has an understanding of how the world
Involved citizens try to make the world a better place for everyone and to bring people to the realization of why the issues that they face are at fault and how they should be restored.
Furthermore, Schumacher also argues that the goal of the government and community is to ensure that every person within the community has the means to lead a meaningful existence. Globalization, on the other hand, fails to benefit communities. Many developing nations that host multinational corporations have a large percentage of the population with little or no means of survival.
However, through this course I have also come to recognize that due to the negative perception that is placed on our generation, the political objectives of young people will likely never be given adequate consideration by public officials should we continue to practice engaged citizenship while disregarding electoral participation. My personal definition of citizenship is recognizing the privileges we have as citizens of the United States and contributing to one’s community in whatever way they are able to do so. A responsible citizen is not simply an observer of the political process, but rather an informed

What does it mean to be a citizen? What does it mean to be a part of a country? I believe that being a citizen is much more than just living in the same country for a set number of years. There are several ways that the word "citizen" can be defined. For example, individuals may say that when you do good deeds and make your country a better place you are considered a citizen. When you work hard to donate to your country you are showing that you believe in While there are other individuals believe that being a good citizen means portraying kindness, generosity, a helping hand; what some people may refer to as a servants heart. Of course, different countries will have different interpretations of what citizen is and
When you think of a good citizen what do you think of? Naturally we think of someone who is active in their community, and takes responsibility for their actions. So what is a good citizen on a global level? What is Global Citizenship? Well, opendemocracy.net states that,
In a recent study, the National Geographic Society and the Asia Society shed light on a growing concern that showed students from the United States lacked understanding and knowledge of different people, places, and cultures around the world. This growing concern demanded higher-quality education as well as for teachers to understand the value and necessity of developing lessons based on global education. Since the 1980s, the United States government has tried repeatedly to introduce and incorporate multiculturalism and global education into the system but was met with hostility and protests by many of its citizens. Many protestors believed that global education introduces anti-Americanism, and that multiculturalism introduces and encourages "separatism and disunity". Therefore, it is important and necessary to inform and introduce the general public to the benefits of global education, or cultural education in general to our youth. This will help rise a more knowledgeable generation that is better equipped to deal, communicate, understand, and help the rest of the world.
Individual Social Responsibility is a moral belief where we as individuals, have a responsibility toward society. Being "socially responsible" is about all individuals behaving ethically and sensitively towards social, economic, and environmental issues. It is about being accountable for our actions and being conscious of the impact your actions have on others, our communities, and the environment.
On a more individual level, openness to human diversity plays a role in adjusting to the changes of the future. People are discovering that even within cultures, individuals come from diverse backgrounds, have different personalities, and prefer different ways of life. Young leaders can build a stronger relationship with their followers as they enhance their own appreciation for human diversity. As people become more diverse, leaders must learn how to communicate with them as individuals if a vision is to be shared, a cohesive group to be formed, and a goal to be achieved. Despite differences in opinions, the leader and followers can work together to complement each other as they move toward the mission of the group. By exposing themselves to all kinds of situation and communicating with many types of people, young leaders can develop an appreciation of human diversity. Conflicts caused by differences among individuals' personalities and cultures have created many ethical issues, and the number will only increase in this global society.
A person, who makes the effort to understand the perspectives of her/his fellow teammates, arouses a sense of motivation thereby creating a inclusive environment. When Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa in the year 1915, he decided to travel across the country to expose himself to the reality of the nation. In order to lead the Indian independence movement, Gandhi visited many remote villages, which were isolated from the mainstream independence movement. For him, the most important goal was to channel the voices of the disenfranchised and the alienated in the larger movement so that everyone gets to be part of gro...
Global problems require global solutions. They also require World Citizens who identify with and give their loyalty to humanity and the web of life. Patriotism takes on new dimensions and becomes Humatriotism, loyalty to humankind. To change the world requires a new kind of thinking and new loyalties that transcend the nation-state. These viewpoints may put one at odds with some segments of society, but if some individuals do not have the vision and the courage to venture beyond the borders of conformity then change will never occur.
When looking at normative theories of politics, the main distinction is between cosmopolitanism and communitarianism. In this essay the term community shall refer to political communities, or more specifically, states. It is important to note that these political communities have been defined territorially, and not necessarily by culture, although this is taken for granted to an extent by communitarianism. Communitarians say that each community is different, and therefore should act accordingly with each other. In other words, state autonomy should be absolute and law and moral standards should be self-determined by the community itself alone. Furthermore, communities should have no obligations to other political communities or any sort of international law. Contrastingly, Cosmopolitans say that there should be an overriding universal moral standard to which all states (or communities) should adhere. If a state is infringing on the rights of the individual or humanity, then intervention is appropriate and just. While many Americans, and even more unfortunate is American teachers, claim that global education would harm American values and go against what America stands for (Webb), a global education presents the ability to either properly expand upon one’s knowledge of the world with accurate information about their true culture and their language, or a global education could either undeservingly demote or promote a country to a ranking it may or may not deserve. Without global education, our future generations will face unnecessary challenges and face the possibility of destroying everything that we, the world, built upon to maintain
