The story of me getting stitches is a good story. It was on a Monday night, at around six in the evening. I was in the living room and I vividly remember watching Drake and Josh. The episode was the one where Drake and Josh were in the dancing contest. Being me, I thought I could dance like them, which I couldn’t . Well, that’s when things started to go downhill. My Dad told me he was going in the shower, we just had dinner. He told me “Chloe I’m going in the shower”. He also told me that he’d be out in five minutes. Being him, he thought I would be fine, but he was so wrong. I remember him saying, “Sit still, watch tv, and don’t do anything stupid”. Well, I did something stupid, anyway. I saw the female dance partner and she did this spin turn thing, which I thought I could do. So, I stood up and started spinning around and around, then eventually, I got really dizzy. Then, bang. …show more content…
During that time, somehow, I had managed to hit my lip on the coffee table. When crashing into the coffee table, it didn’t really hurt with. I had thought I face planted into the floor. So, for a while I just sat there trying to take in what had just happened. Then,I stood up and saw blood on my shirt. My hand automatically went to my face and I placed my hand where the blood was coming from which was my lip. I ran to the mirror to see how badly I had cut my lip. Then, I saw the big gash on my lip. I zoomed to the bathroom where my dad was taking a shower and knocked furiously. He opened the door and saw the wide gash on my lip wide. At this point, I was crying and freaking
A childhood full of abuse can have a tremendously negative effect on a person’s mental stability later on in life. A cycle of abuse, in which an abused child grows up to abuse their own children, is not an uncommon occurrence. The abuse is often accepted as justified discipline from an adult and it becomes more likely that the abused begins to blame themselves for the pain they are caused. David Small’s memoir, Stitches, touches on the subject of abuse and its effect on one’s behavior later on in life. It can be argued that David’s mother, Betty, was the victim of abuse at the hands of her own mother when she was younger. If so, her abuse riddled past can be blamed for her controlling behavior throughout the book.
Amputation and Surgery in the 19th Century Surgery and Amputation During this period a deep cut could lead to infection, and the only treatment for infections was amputation and catheterization. However, hospitals and medical instruments were hardly ever sanitized, so one could often come out of the hospital worse than when one went in (Bloodwiki). It is not uncommon for a person to survive a surgery only to be set upon by diseases such as hospital gangrene and septicaemia (Youngson 29). Youngson describes hospitals as “dark and overcrowded, ill-run and insanitary”. It was not uncommon to see in the same ward, at the same time, cases of, (let us say) typhoid fever, erysipelas, pneumonia, rickets, dysentery; nor was it uncommon to see two patients in the same bed” (Youngson 24).
I wanted to go to him and ask him what was wrong, but I didn’t dare…But then I couldn’t stand it anymore and I got up and ran down the hall to the kitchen. There, in the middle of the room, wearing his Goodyear jacket and work clothes was my father. He was on his hands and knees, his head hanging as though it were too heavy to support, and he was rocking back and forth and babbling in a rhythmical stutter. It’s funny, but the first thing I thought when I saw him like that was the way he used to let me ride on his back, when I was little, bucking and neighing like a horse. And as soon as I thought it, I felt my heart lurch in my chest.
When I walked inside the front door something didn’t seem right. The feeling of sorrow overwhelmed the house. It was so thick I could literally feel it in the air. Everyone was motionless. They were sulking;I was befuddled. The most energetic people in the world, doing absolutely nothing. I repeatedly asked them what was wrong. After an hour or so, my dad pulled me aside. He said that my Aunt Feli had passed away last night. My mind went for a loop, I was so confused. I thought that he was joking, so I replied “You’re lying, don’t mess with me like that.” and punched his shoulder softly while I chuckled. My dad quickly started tearing up and said, “There...
At 4, I came to the breakfast table and saw that my father had a horribly swollen eye and adhesive tape forming a shell on his nose. I didn't know that he got those injuries in a barroom fight; I only know that I was deeply frightened and sorry that my father was hurt. This was the first of many bad memories.
I start to pull up some wheelies and i was doing good. I could ride one for probably a quarter mile. He passes me and i stay behind and i put my left knee on the seat and stand the bike up into a wheelie. Im in the wheelie and i'm going really good and all asuden i lose balance and my hands come off the handle bars and go to grab for them and i grab the front brake and when the bike lands the front wheel can't move so everything goes down. I was going about 50 mph. I hit the ground and start tumbling. I'm trying to get a grip on where i am and what's going on. When i stop i get up and kyler turns around and comes back to me. I try to get back on my bike but he says no. i look at myself and i'm all scratched up and there is a gash in my elbow down to the bone and my clothes are all tore up. Im standing there with blood running everywhere and he tells me to just leave the bike on the side of the rode and get it ces.
I was in my basement with my younger brother and my dad. My brother and I were bored so we started to pass a basketball back and forth. All of a sudden the ball hit my brother in the mouth. He flinched and had a look of pain on his face. I saw a tooth come out of his mouth and fly under a shelf. My dad gasped and looked at my and my brother. I was afraid my brother was going to be really mad at me. Luckily my brother doesn’t get hurt easily and he was fine, and actually happy I knocked out his tooth. I was relieved to know I didn’t hurt my brother. The only problem now was to find his tooth. My dad got a flashlight and shined it under the shelf searching for the tooth. Thankfully we found his, although it was very dusty.
When I finally found my words I asked what was going on and my mother told me that my sister was in a car accident. When we arrived at the scene all I could see was my sister’s car sideways in the middle of the road with the entire front of it smashed up towards the windshield. As I looked around I saw my sister, emerging from a tan SUV I had never seen before, running towards my parents. The ambulances began to arrive and I was in my sister’s arms when I realized that there was no other damaged car at the
In grade 2 on the weekend I went to my friends house for a sleepover and we started playing with his little brother. We played a few games and nothing went wrong. Then we played a game where we were running away from his brother and he had to catch us. So we ran upstairs and into his room. We covered the door so he couldn’t get in, but eventually we let him in and he couldn’t get my friend so he went for me. When he finally got me he grabbed my legs and I fell and my head hit the corner of his bed and I was bleeding and screaming like crazy. So I ran down the stairs screaming my bloody head off. So hi mom drove me to the hospital and gave me ice: for my head. When we got the the hospital I was so scared I wasn’t even
It was a wine red roller coaster ride built in a terrific way that it was massive and breathtaking. We were standing in the long line and at last the attendant asked me to sit in the seating section of the coaster and I sat next to my sister. I was asked to put on my yellow seat belt and hold on to the black bar in my lap. A mixture of excitement and fear filled inside my mind. I was slowly taken up to 90-degree angle, suddenly all my happy and thrilling sensations to try all the rides was conquered by the nerve-racking emotion that impaled in my mind as I screamed at the top of my lungs when we were falling straight down from 90-degree angle. I took caught on the bar tightly, but still the feeling that I’m going to fall down was intense. My scream became the loudest uproar that caused my sister feel insecure about me and she was trying to pacify me down, but I couldn’t resist myself from the absolute threatening feeling. After the ride was done, we were asked to get up from the seat and my knees were frail but I managed to stand up and walk out and there was my sister running towards me and asked if I was alright. I still had a dizzy feeling, but I was alive. After the ride, I felt an intense adrenaline rush flow through my
It all started January of 2008, when I had to get stitches in the bottom of my right foot. The stitches were my first set. Nobody was planning on getting stitches. I always said “I’m never getting stitches because they are gross looking and sound every painful”.
I saw my friend Zade. I couldn’t hear him and I didn’t want him to know that I am deaf. I waved and said” Hello I have to go bye. I started running home. I got home and tried to tell my dad about what had happened to me, but he said” Sorry ask your mom or something. He was busy working so I couldn’t tell him. I went to the living room and I told my mom by writing about the whole situation on a piece of paper. She wouldn’t believe me. Then she realized that I wasn’t lying and I was being honest.
I wake up in this room. My mother is to my left crying with her face in the palms of her hands. My dad, he paces the floor with his hands in his pockets. I am scared I can barely remember what has transpired. As my mother stands and looks at me square in the eyes, the nurse comes and says with a grin on her radiant face “Hello, Mr. Howard. How are you feeling?” I attempt to sit up, but my body is aching. My dad hurries over to help, but it was no use the pain was overbearing. I began to weep and apologize. My dad with a stern look on his face says, “Andra, you are fine now just relax”. How could I relax? I am stuck in this room with no memory of what happened.
Miss Soper took me to the nurse’s office where the found a bandage to cover my nearly two inch cut with a bandaid. I lay on the bed in the nurse’s office while the called my parents to come pick me up. This whole time I was in tears.
Oh my God! TJ!“ It was just my mom.She was crying and calling my name again and again.I was so embarrassed and disappointed of my self.I had let her down. After, two of the EMT guys put us on an ambulance. Finally,we made our way to the hospital. My friend john and me were sent in palo alto medical center. It took us about fifteen minute to get there. My friend john was alright. He had a couple of stitches in his head and his arm. He got relieved after a couple of tests but, I was severely injured. I was lying on a hospital bed and thinking what I would have done in the past. Cause this terrible accident happened to me. I was sent to el camino hospital, where I went to the operation theater for my hipbones surgery. The doctor told me after surgery that my hipbones was fractured the reason they had to put a plate in hipbones to stay together.Although, my left arm was also fractured the reason I could not feel my arm. After surgery, they took me to the other room and gave me a couple of injections. Momentarily, I went to sleep. I woke up in the next day and thinking hopefully it was just a dream, but it’s not. I opened my eyes and saw a couple of relative looking me like a stranger. My dad came over my bed and gave me a hug and I literally started crying after thinking about the accident. I could not believe after a massive car accident I was still alive. Doctors kept in hospital couple of
