Gender bias can be seen in many aspects, such as, education, employment opportunity, treatments in family. Based on the American Heritage Dictionary, 1983 bias is defined as "preference or inclination that inhibits impartiality; prejudice" while gender bias is defined as inclination towards or prejudice against one gender.
Based on one of Canada statistics web, a sudden reversal has taken place on Canadian university campuses for over the last 30 years. According to the 1971 Census made in Canada, most of the university graduates were male but in the 2001 Census, universities had vividly become the domain of women, as 58% of graduates are women.1 Women nowadays are more aggressive to compete as the modern life has taught that education is the number one key to achieve something in life. People nowadays also did not believe or tied anymore with the taboo that said “women do not need a high education because they will end up cooking for their family”. In fact, there are women who were busy studying, but still can manage their family well.

Caregiving and homemaking are the primary roles given to women by society. And as Brigid Schulte stated in her article “Women aren’t the only ones trapped by gender roles”, “As long as women are expected to do the bulk of the caregiving and housework, and work cultures respect and reward people who don’t, women will remain at the disadvantage”. It can be seen that women are more likely to play casual roles as they are most likely to take seasonal and part time work so that they can work according to their needs. They are hampered from progressing upward into the organizations as they face problems like lack of health insurance, sexual harassments, lower wage rates, gender biases and attitudes of negative behavior. However, this wouldn’t have hampered the participation of the women in the work force and they continue to increase their efforts which is highly evident in the occupational and job ratios of females in the industry.
