The next step within the responsible products section would be the continuation to improve the design of the final products. This initiative was implemented from the beginning for the business but not specially called out. Striving to continually improve product design, making our devices thinner, lighter, and more durable, which reduces the amount of materials without sacrificing the rich features. This initiative is also not only for the design of the product but can include the packaging that the product is shipped in. By decreasing the overall shipped air the product can take up a smaller footprint. Thus resulting in lower freights charges and less potential pollution put into the air. There are multiple different steps that are included …show more content…
Similar to the sustainability initiative in order to eliminate hazardous waste the project manager for the project will be the single contact point for collecting the progress of all the different teams. In the same weekly meeting the key stakeholders will come together in order to monitor the progress of the project. This allows for changes to take affect and the teams can course correct as needed. The important factor in regards to the different Garmin initiatives is that if there is any cause of concern for the organization. They project manager will collect the information from the stakeholders that are in charge of the design. This is then put into a corporate document that is then routed to the executive engineering resources in a biweekly meeting. This meeting is to overlook all of the different project that in development and track the progress. At this point the management will identify solutions for the team to continue down the path of …show more content…
The first would be in the overall look of the product, does the product fulfill the needs of the market? Is it smaller, lighter, faster and more durable, these are many of the questions that are asked in determining if the design was a success? The next metric that the company will use to determine the success of the product design would be the size of the packaging. Does it show the equally quality of the product, also what the amount of shipped air is? The amount of shipped air is extremely important in not wasting resources. Over the past 2 years the team that I manage has been able to save Garmin approximately 450,000 dollars in modifying the packaging size and cost. Currently there are not any rewards or acknowledgement for individuals to successfully obtain sustainability for marketing. Looking ahead I have determined that there needs to be some type of acknowledgment for employees outside of the engineering departments that contribute to corporate sustainability. This strategy is to recognize the different departments that put in the effort to make the company as a whole sustainable. In order to do this I have drafted an outline of the process and procedure for packaging sustainability. By examining this process for the company I have determined that the largest take away is communication. Communication is crucial to ensuring that all the different

A business should make sure its methods of production are not negatively affecting its employees and that all the people in the business are happy and willing to work. Also, a business should make sure that its methods of production are not producing any waste on land or water or air pollution, for these negatively affect society. A business that cares about it’s influence on the environment, and its consumers is bound to make a difference. For example: General Mills wants to reduce the amount of energy it uses. In order to do this, they had energy monitors installed into some of their equipment in one of their manufacturing plants. The result: General Mills saved around six hundred thousand dollars (James). Profit can be obtained faster by a business that is looked upon as a positive influence on the environment and its employees. Overall, a business should be careful about how it produces its products and think about society’s health before it makes a decision, for if it doesn’t, the liability for damage is a much greater price to
This information is continuously evolving throughout the project life and is shared amongst all the stakeholders of the project.
This scenario, a low-urgency issue as a middle manager at a company, seems particularly useful as it is a position that many of us might find ourselves in upon graduation. We are thrown into the scenario with an average amount of surface information. In this exercise, we were faced with the challenges related to implementing an organization-wide sustainability initiative, to which we face some resistance. The plan sought to change the amount of raw material inputs to make Spectrum's sunglasses more ecologically friendly, as well as address the company’s current env...
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is about how companies manage their business processes to produce a positive impact on society. Companies introduce new products in markets, usually after testing concludes that the product is safe for use or consumption. It is nearly impossible for a company to truly know all of the potential risks a brand new product may have, even after thorough testing. However, once a company receives reports that its product may be causing harm to consumers, it is their responsibility to conduct more research and tests to rule-out any possible truth in the reports. This is what a socially responsible company would do, one who is preoccupied not only with their bottom-line, but one that is also worried about its customers.
At first should the terminology be defined. A project is "a unique set of coordinated activities, with a definite start and finishing point, undertaken by an individual or organisation to meet specific objectives within defined, scheduled costs and performance parameters" (BS 6079-1,200:2, Material of Sunderland 2005, page 5). The individual who undertakes the organisa-tion is usually the project manager. This person plays a special role and is supported by his team.
Our week five case study, Mattel and Toy Safety, involves toy safety inspection and product recall concerns among outside contractors. In 2007, the infamous toy company, Mattel, recalled a very large number of toy products covered with lead-based paint that were manufactured in China. Mattel responded to the massive toy recall by increasing the testing of all products and reassuring its customers that they will take affirmative action to correct the recall issues as soon possible. In my opinion, I believe Mattel acted in a socially responsible and ethical manner regarding the safety of it toys because as soon as Mattel was aware of a European merchant finding lead paint on their toy products, Mattel conducted an immediate investigation.
It will be advantageous for the company if they can project themselves as responsible corporate citizen and an environment friendly company. Social enrichment schemes, recycling schemes and educational funds can be initiated to cater to this cause and long term goal.
Societal needs of designing and delivering products and services that can better serve a more sustainable environment.
The Toshiba Group implements environmental accounting to effectively learn environmental costs and benefits and to use the data as a guide for their business activities. According to Takayuki Ikeda (2014), the company has important pillars in Green management. These are: Greening of Products which makes the company reduces the environmental impact throughout its product life cycle; Greening of Process which the company conserves energy in making the products and; Green Management which the company provides environmental education to promote environmental activities. In the past years, Toshiba Group received environmental awards that prove that the company did the environmental management above the standards (Toshiba Group,
From the starting itself Green supply chain goals should be combined with business goals which in turn will help the organization to have a vision about how to spend the money and plan for it in advance. This will in turn help the organization to attain goals such as ecofriendly packaging, establishing the guidelines so as to decrease the energy consumpti...
The purpose of this paper is to study how packaging and its design have become a significant factor in creating competitive advantage for marketing a consumer product as well as its relationship with consumer concerns and product safety.
?The eco-efficiency imperative is based on the idea that companies must come to terms with the new realities of population growth, increased evidence of global warming, ozone depletion, loss of fertile soils and forests. These new realities will change the markets (customers' attitudes) and lead to tougher government regulation. This will change the bottom-line of each company now and increasingly in the future. Costs related to pollution will become staggering. Customers will ask for green products and they will even select companies on their proven ability to produce green products. Instead of waiting for government action and lobbying to get the right kind of action, companies must seek value creation through minimizing resource input. According to its proponents, eco-efficiency leads to economic and ecological efficiency. (Schot 1997).
Due to the incremental growth in online shopping and retail, the purpose of packaging has changed for consumers as well as brands. In what way can we make this system more sustainable?
Consumers have expectations In terms of a good quality product that should be availed at a reasonable price. Consumers don’t only want the business to be socially responsible towards them in this manner of reasonable prices but way beyond this. They should meet the needs of consumers in ways of convenience and appearance. But business should also consider other aspects like environmental impact when packaging is disposed.
