Gangs in America has become a big issue and should be addressed because gang members are losing their life, gang related crimes and streets are not safe from gangs recruiting new members. I think that we need to change how we fight gangs in America because it seems not to be working. I want to give the youth a place to go after school and on weekends. I think this will help because we are getting them off the streets and showing them another way of life. With companies shutting down and leaving it empty would be the ideal place to use as a place where youth can go. That way we are using something that has a less chance of being vandalized and broken into. If there is not a place that is not being used than building something to use as an activity center. When it comes to the …show more content…
For those who donate money could get a slip that they can use on taxes. When the activity center is up and running there will be less gang members because they are seeing something past the moment. I would like to think that the safety will increase because there is less gang members. I would like to also think that with less gang members that the vandalizing would slow down if not stop. When it comes down to the question of who will run it, I would like to suggest the community. There can be psychologists to help with the emotional part. There can be public service people. I think that will help build trust. I also would encourage the privet citizens because they can see that it is a challenge to grow up when you have people pressuring you to join a gang. Because we are dealing with gangs people are going to worry about their safety. The key to the activity center is to keep the negative and gang members out. I would recommend that there is background checks done on all adults with the help from the police station. I would also want a metal detectors at the doors so that no weapons can be brought into the

Parents must be cooperative with their child as well into a specific resource center that dealt with indecisive mothers of raising their child(s) to help them suppress their child from joining gangs at an early age. Many parents are not aware of resource centers in their local area where they could seek an assistance and advice from someone expert (Social Worker or Psychologist) especially if their neighborhood is prone demographics of drugs, crimes, and some illegal substance. There are many kids that joined gangs because they are in a neighborhood prone to drugs and crimes where they could be influenced by it instantly by a flick of a finger. An article “What Schools Do to Help Prevent Gang – Joining” by Gary D. Gottfredson shows a statistics of students in certain cities percentage in joining gangs and not doing well at school. “Baltimore City 41%, Philadelphia 61%, and Albuquerque 49%.” Despite their value in reducing the general risk for problem behavior, school-based programs aid strategies are unlikely to reach youths who might be at greatest risk of joining gangs: those who have dropped out of school. Kids that are a drop out of schools are not getting much attention because some programs only focus or covered only those who are not yet involved in such case. It is mortifying to see that government has no action upon the situation. Gangs have a huge negative
One very prevalent issue that has been plaguing the Latino community for several decades now has been the influence of gangs and their responsibility in hindering the advancement of the Latino community as a whole. Not only has the influence of gangs posed a significant threat to the well-being of the Latino community due to the increase in violence and drugs that have been brought into the community, but it has also incited more division among Latinos as well. For example, in places such as Los Angeles, California there is strong animosity apparent between rival Latino gangs that may consist of members from countries such as Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, etc. In order to restrict their overpowering influence on the Latino community, I would

Prison gangs were created by inmates as a way to protect themselves from other inmates. Each prison gang has their reasons for existing. There are five prison gangs in the United States. These gangs are as follow: The Aryan Brotherhood, The Black Guerilla Family, Texas Syndicate, Mexican Mafia, and Lanuestra Familia. They all have similar beliefs, meanings of their tattoos, how gangs impact their lives and society, and the challenges they bring the prison system in order to decrease gang population.
The streets of Philadelphia are rapidly becoming a home to violent acts and random homicides. Innocent lives are taken every day due to the strong presence of gangs, and the streets are run by unruly groups of fearless young adults. Gang violence in Philadelphia is a major issue, and the citizens will never be safe until gang prevention occurs. Gang prevention is not a simple task, but with the right resources available, it is possible. Gang violence is a problem that will contribute to the collapse of Philadelphia, and it has yet to be solved throughout many generations. With gang violence on the rise, the best solution to gang violence is to educate the youth and parents about gangs and use family support to prevent the creation of gang members from the problem’s core.
Give the kids and teens after-school programs such as sports and mentoring programs. The government should not waste money funding useless laws, instead it should build more boys and girls clubs in the neighborhoods where gangs are likely appearing to organize. Most people who join a gang are just looking for a sense of belonging. These programs will show them they are smart and talented. It is that sense of belonging when they’re in an after-school group.
The reason for this program is to use innovative approaches in developing programs, which will teach youth alternatives to violence, substance abuse, anger issues, low self-esteem, and the consequences as a result of making bad choices. During, the program non-violence, team building, leadership development and communication skills is promoted. A neutral and positive setting is provided for young people, so they are able to come together from different gangs throughout the city to work on their issues and programs together. When a youth is referred to the program they have an Intake-Assessment with the family. “Together, a Program Contract/Service Plan will be developed based on the individual needs of the youth/family. If the youth is on probation/parole all requirements of the courts will be incorporated into their contract. Services offered are case management, mediation, innovative focus groups, presentations, collaboration with other youth service organizations, and attendance at court hearings” (Stop ABQ Gangs,
... member or has served in prison so they could change their lives by turning away from crime, they also get training to detect problems before they happen like shootings. This solution would help my community's problem because cure violence has reduced shootings and killings by -41% to -73%. Also they saw a 100% homicide reduction in 5 out of 8 communities. This is some big improvements that are going on other communities. One of the communities was Englewood and it saw a -40% reduction is shooting density. If this solution is not implemented in my community nothing will change you will still see crime and deaths. There are already 110 homicides so far in the New City community. That's a lot and you will keep seeing these numbers if they don't put a plan into action to stop the gangs. They need to start to interact with the people who are high risk to joining a gang.
agrees that rec centers are the right kind of place for youth to channel their energy
Since the beginning of time, youth groups or gangs have been in existence. These groups have had many negative effects on society for many years. These youth groups or gangs, as they are commonly called, have participated in many criminal and illegal acts that have plagued society. They have been stereotyped with such negative names as rowdies, bad kids, troublemakers, and many other mischievous names. Some of the earliest records of gangs date back to the fourteenth and fifteenth century in Europe. Some of the activities that these youths had been recorded as partaking in have been theft, robbery, extortion, and rape. At the same time in London, some of the names these gangs had were the Mims, Hectors, Bugle, and Dead Boys. These gangs did many types of vandalism to the city. Some of the recorded vandalism that had taken place was various buildings with broken windows, taverns that had been destroyed by the gangs, and assaulting the watch. And if the violence on the public was not enough, these deviant groups also had fights with themselves. When there would be a fight, the separate groups or factions would dress up with different colored ribbons so that they could tell who was with what faction or group. There were also other places where gang violence had been recorded. During the middle ages in France, there were factions that started fights with other factions that were from other places. In Germany during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, gangs were a part of the society.
An estimate of thirty-three thousand violent street gangs and prison gangs operate criminally in the United States today. Throughout the years, these crews have been increasing in violence and caused many deaths. Gangs have influenced the streets with violence, drugs, and much more crime, such as in robbery, fraud, extortion, and trafficking. Each year gang affiliation increases in American society. If gang participation decreases, then the amount of gang-related violence and deaths would reduce within a matter of time.
The presence of a gang in a community affects the quality of life for society through illegal behavior and alcohol or drug use. In order to effectively treat the nations gang problem, we must fully understand what drives individuals to join gangs, and what makes them turn to violence. Prevention begins with awareness. By making programs and resources available to parents and youths then there is a higher chance of preventing membership and recognizing when a youth is already involved.
Second, I would create policies and programs targeting both juvenile justice institutions and youth, as well as their relation to each other at a specific time and place. For example, it is essential to focus on youth entering or leaving a gang and on the developmental stage of the gang problem. Third, I would create a mechanism or structure to coordinate communitywide efforts. For example, school administrators, community leaders, and parents would be asked to give a list of children involved in gang-related activities. Therefore, implementing a probation or GPS monitor for the juvenile violation, which includes criminal offenses. Fourth, a foundation of community policing with the use of parents put on notice that they would be fined if the child is not in the home before curfew. Fifth, I would provide each school with an in school gang unit of three police officer to address gang clothing, violence, graffiti, weapon, and criminal activity in school. There will be a three strike program policy for all gang-involvement violations. Therefore, any juvenile violating policies will be put on notice for the first violation. The second violation, parents would need to attend school for the entire school day and sit in each assigned class with their child. The third violation, the juvenile will be suspended and ask to complete ten days of community service before returning to
Gang violence has no solution to stop it entirely, but schools located in low-income communities can take steps to end this growing matter. They can find the students that influence others to join their group. They also can instruct teachers and administrators on how to tell a sign if a student is in a gang. They also can educate their students on diversity and make them feel valued rather than ignored. There isn’t a simple solution to this problem, but schools can take these steps to minimize the amount of gang violence and stop the growth of gang on their premises and in their neighborhoods
