A few weeks ago, my husband announced that in a few months, the Army would be reassigning him from Colorado to a unit in Florida. Immediately, my mind filled with questioning thoughts of the logistics of yet, another move and how this would impact continuing my education. Days later, I had a long discussion with my brother, who is a doctoral student with Grand Canyon University (GCU), he relayed his experience with GCU and suggested I contact an enrollment counselor and find out what options were available to me. With feelings of great relief and encouragement, I telephoned GCU and spoke with an enrollment counselor who assisted me in the step by step process to transfer into GCU and commence my academic journey in GCU’s online program. The support and encouragement from that first telephone call with GCU resonates with the affirmation that success in my academic pursuits is a very real possibility. The positive experience my brother has gained from GCU along with my initial experience with the registration and enrollment representatives is motivation in itself. The fact that I received such positive support early on not only from the representatives of GCU but also a student is extremely important in a preliminary measure for …show more content…
my success. Such a testimonial along with first hand experience will go a long way in reflecting on the decisions I make as I continue as a student with GCU. Participation in the Loud Cloud Classroom forums allows online students to feel connected in the sharing of perceptions, opinions and experiences related to the topic for any given course.
The diversity of discussion posts is very similar to that of a traditional brick and mortar classroom where if there were questions or open discussion, a student could verbally express the same. These forums definitely provide a venue for connectivity and sharing of opinion and experience as students relate the same to the topic discussed. Personally, I view such forums to be a written reference that is available for viewing, as many times as is necessary, and allows me to give contemplative consideration and reflection to future replies or
posts. Having been absent from a classroom for over two decades, I had feelings of intimidation in the use of technology that may be utilized in attending traditional and online classes. The Loud Cloud Walk to Class tutorial was instrumental in alleviating some of these feelings. What I found most helpful was the guided explanations for each tab that would be utilized in this course. Coupled with the user-friendliness of GCU’s website, I was able to navigate and locate the required information needed to respond to assignments and forum questions for this week. In doing so, I also was exposed to the additional materials and links available and found myself “clicking” through different tabs to review for its purpose and use by students.
As part of my HNC study, I will look to define and discuss the importance of reflection. I will be using a variety of sources such as books, web pages, articles and journals in order to gather information. Which in return will allow me to explain why reflection is of such importance.
After being on the road for three years, I decided to check into returning to college at the University of Delaware and the University of Pennsylvania. Both universities informed me that I would have to retake my first two years that I had completed at Chattanooga State. I would have to commit for another four to six years of college. I did not have the time to do this. I wanted to be finished with my bachelor?s degree within two years if possible. So, later, when they realize that their choices are limited, their futures sealed or semi-gelled, they decide that school is where they need to be (Smith, 2001).
Michael Reyes ENC 1102 18 October 2016 Is Greek Life Enriching or Distressing College Success Summer term 2016 was the very first time I was considered a college student who attended Florida International University or any university for that matter. I was nervous, intimidated by the drastic changes that were about to occur in my life. As a first semester freshman, I did not know what the college life held for me and did not want to. I was closed off from my surroundings and felt comfortable going from home to school and back home. It was convenient not having to be involved in all of these extracurricular activities and clubs.
There were times I was even acknowledged by my name. VCU had become my second home and its presence was well received. The VCU inspiration and atmosphere transferred into my ambition for learning. I studied vigorously and challenged myself to achieve a 4.0. I was inspired by a professor who stated “we were enough by our mere presence in this class”, this quote became my logo for the last two years. I met some of the most heartfelt people some for a moment, season, and others for a lifetime. The experience embarked a internal light inside of me that was dim and cause a rejuvenation of my mindset about

As a young undergraduate, I attempted to prove myself as a hardworking student by attending my courses focused and well prepared, and conducting my assignments as required. Through my undergraduate studies, I was fortunate to participate in several student and voluntary activities. Furthermore, determinant to acquire relevant practical experience, I trained and worked at several establishments applying my theoretical ed...
Online forums are convenient to many businesses and provide satisfaction. They are used in businesses to inform people about a product and to provide feedback. Video games, especially PC games rely most of their information on online forums to stay informed. If they are unable to log in to play a game; they informed the others on the forum and the people in charge of the game will also be informed. So there won’t be any confusion if the server is down or either it’s their internet. They are also quick is easy, if you want to have a discussion about something. All you have to do is type in the topic and “forums” into Google and it will appear. They are used to get answers from people that already know the answer or maybe study that typical subject. To be enlightened in a single spot is very gifting.
As more military veterans enroll in higher education institutions, college and universities across the country need to implement or improve services to make higher education more responsive to this group’s unique needs after returning from war. Here are three common challenges veterans face as they enter the college environment and how institutions can do their part to ease the transition. With the increase of student veterans entering college communities, the transition process may prove to be difficult. “Leaving the military and enrolling in college can certainly be considered a significant life transition, as veterans move from a highly structured military environment to contexts lacking clear rules or chains of command” (Gilbert & Griffin, 2015). During this time, student veterans are navigating through unfamiliar territory within a college campus, but while reassessing their identity. Student veterans may experience feeling disconnected to their college community. Beyond transitioning from the military into an environment that is unfamiliar, student veterans must cope with having to merge their past to their present. Furthermore, this is a trying time for many student veterans particular due to the rising issues of mental health issues and service-related physical disabilities.

I made the decision to come to Baylor early in 1999 while my freshman year was still in session. At first, people thought I was joking about leaving, but when I persisted in telling them, they had no choice but to accept my decision. I had spent most of my life with some of these people, while some I had known for less than a year. I didn't think about that in the beginning. At first I was excited to go, but about the time of this party, the anxiety of leaving hit me like a sledgehammer. The party was August 10th. I left for Baylor ten days later on August 20th. Those ten days were some of the most anxious of my entire life. Was I willing to give up my happy existence to step into an unknown world of doubt? Well, as you may have guessed, since I am writing this paper, I was willing to take that chance. The question of whether it was worth it or not has yet to be answered.
