In the United States, basic education is a gift that everyone receives. But college is an opportunity that a lot of people do not get to experience. So my acceptance into Frostburg State University is a blessing. This is a chance of great measures, but it can go to waste if I can not attend the school because of monetary burdens. The answer to this problem is financial aid, like a scholarship. A scholarship given to me will be money well spent because it will be used on a hard worker who wants to explore different subjects to find one to major in and who overcame obstacles to graduate.
College is a time to determine what one wants to do with their life. Like most high school graduates, I am torn between two different degree majors, business and psychology. I could major in one and minor in the other one, but I do not know what I would do with them. When at Frostburg, my goal is to take different subjects that I will find interesting. Through one of these classes, I hope to discover a course that I will like and pursue as a career.

For me, it was the service hours and the senior thesis I had to do in order to graduate. These two trials were difficult because of my old habit of procrastinating and my lack in writing skills. First my service hours, it was the easier one out the two because it was service to others, but the problem was getting them done on time. Unlike my previous years, I did my hours prior to the start of the school year and even did twice the number of hours that I needed. Last my senior thesis, it involved several steps, which included writing a rough draft, an outline, and the final draft. Freshman year, I saw this thesis as an unclimbable mountain, but the senior version of me saw it as a little hill. My new perspective made it easier to do and through perseverance and months of rewriting, I completed my senior thesis and received a B plus on
Legally enforceable "A contract is a legally enforceable promise or set of promises. In other words, when promises have the status of contract, the contracting party harmed by a breach of the contract is entitled to obtain legal remedies against the breaching party." (Scheffel, Evan, and Jane P. Mallor, 2010. Chapter 9, Page 321) The Lambert v. Barron case showed us an example of what happens when a contract does not contain all elements to become a legally enforceable contract. Mr. Barron did not accept the offer, Mr. Lambert made no promise to recover money from the disputed contracts owed to Mr. Barron, so there was no promise to perform.
Last summer I volunteered at a local hospital for a total of 136 hours. At the end of the summer I received an honorable mention award for being a dedicated volunteer who is highly respected around the hospital. Furthermore, I've been a committed volunteer during this school year. I have also been an active member of my school's HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) chapter; this March I will be competing in a medical terminology competition against members of other HOSA chapters across the state. Additionally, I am a devoted member of my school's academic decathlon team. Finally, I have been a member of CSF (California Scholarship Federation) for the past two years.
In high school I was involved in 3 clubs, 3 varsity sports, and did a least 40 hours of community service through National Honors Society and National Technical Honors Society. I participated in National Technical Honors Society and Health Occupations Students of America(HOSA) through Lapeer County Education and Technical center, and participated in athletics at Imlay City high school. During my high school career I played varsity volleyball for two years, varsity basketball for one year, and varsity soccer for four years, but I jumped back and forth from junior varsity to varsity my freshman year. Also, while being apart of HOSA I was a junior representative my junior year of high school, and I am Vice-President my senior year. And I also mentor our middle school chapter of HOSA and help them to accomplish all of their competitive events.
The AMGEN Summer Scholars research experience will contribute to my plans to become a M.D./Ph.D. candidate, and ultimately an Oncologist, by helping me develop critical and independent thinking as well as creative skills as they relate to the field of medicine. It will also help me develop a more thorough understanding of biological concepts, how they directly apply to medical treatment, and the ways in which biotechnology fuses multiple fields of science to create technologies to care for others. The opportunity to assist in creation of the technologies that will be used on my future patients will ultimately improve my ability to treat their illnesses in adaptive ways. The opportunity I would have to read, interpret, and be a part of creating
As a student that is currently seeking a career in the medical professions, I have had to routinely contemplate my reasons for pursuing such an extensive education program in a field that is constantly demanding excessive time and effort. I know of students—many friends and acquaintances of mine included—that have the most sure-fire, inspirational stories that align with their desire to become doctors, surgeons, physician assistants, etc. They always seemed to have a story that emphasized their desire to “give back” what they have received from the medical community. Because of that, ever since the beginning of high school, I have been trying to find an extraordinary reason, a purpose for my medical pursuits. Perhaps I could justify my passion for
Throughout high school I have dreamed of having the opportunity to attend Indiana University. I have a true passion for babies. I love to learn how babies are developed and how they become such an amazing part of the world. Therefore, I would like to apply to Indiana University and pursue a degree in Pediatric Nursing. I would love to be able to deliver babies and deliver new life into this earth. There are several opportunities available for me to get involved with new leadership opportunities. I want to be able to be a leader for all age groups.
When I found out I qualified to be a candidate for the NJHS, I knew I had to take this chance. This group is made up of people who depict leadership, character, citizenship, academic success, and service and I would love to join. These characteristics wouldn't just be valuable for a candidate to have, but for everyone to have to exceed in life. If I were to be in the National Junior Honor Society, it would give me an opportunity to ameliorate my future and motivate me to do better.
Having the college experience is everyone’s dream, especially High School students who are ready to get out into the world and explore. College is very important for furthering someone’s career, but no one thinks about all the costs and the stress that comes along with college. Tuition fees and costs are increasing more and more each year. Now days it feels like you have to be a millionaire just to attend a good college and get a good degree in what you were attending for. There are some students that do not have a lot of money and live on very little things with their parents, but indeed are very smart and have a 4.0 GPA. Those students are the ones that are unable to attend college if they cannot afford it. College tuition is too expensive,
As a young lady graduating from The Dalles Whatonka High School I think it’s important to be involved in as many activity’s as possible. Throughout my high school years I have been involved in many school activities and comities such as student government. I have always had an interest in athletics and played sports. These leadership and athletic roles have tough me skills that will last me a lifetime.
College students, being the nucleus of a society, need the necessary tools to overcome the diverse barriers in life specifically the financial ones. This can relieve them emotionally, and helping them can push them to reach their goals. Since Obama administration had been working on this, there has been an increase in the financial aid. Colleges need to partner with organizations to leverage the access and affordability and the financial aid department can always work for example with the Gates Millennium Scholarship. Being a particular element in the economic field of a country, college needs to be cost-effective to college students. Since the future relies on them, helping those students at the financial level is not only helping them to do something meaningful with their lives, but is also
In our lives today, not everyone can financially afford to attend a four year university or college, but yet people still attend because they have academic goals. Currently there is help with grants, merit scholarships and loans available for some. However many students do not realize they will eventually be left to pay the majority of the money back. Students
Upon hearing I was awarded the Foot Locker Foundation Scholarship, I believe I would end up having a similar experience to receiving my first acceptance letter from a university. Just this fall, I decided to apply to universities in Michigan after my first college visit. To my dad it was quite the shocker, since for years I had been telling him of my grand plans to travel the world fresh out of high school to figure out the meaning of life. Yet to him, college was a pipe dream. My father, who has been a retired army vet since the Iraqi War in 2007, attempted to earn his bachelors degree when I was a toddler but had to drop out to make enough money to support him and
After being first hand effected by the unexpected taking over a family’s financial life, I have realized how important it is to be smart when making financial decisions as young as possible. Consequently, a higher education goes hand-in-hand with that goal in life. By earning a higher education, compared to those who do not, occupations are much easier to come by. Grades have always taken priority in my life and as I near the end of my senior year, I am anxious to continue that educational success. In Economics, whether learning from Dave Ramsey or the Everfi Program, we discuss our futures regularly and what type of reality is in our future.
With an abundance of scholarships available, students are bound to qualify for some of them that will lessen the cost of a college education. With more help than ever from scholarships and student aid programs, college is more affordable than it’s ever been. Even though some students leave college with debt to pay, most students agree that college was worth the
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
