Why Do Students Drop Out?

After graduating high school, several students decide to go off to college while many others find want to take a break from school, then continue later on. Sometimes, there are people that have an entity approach to intelligence where they believe that college is not for them and therefore find something else to do, so they look for jobs and decide to work. They believe that if they try to get into this new environment, they will not even achieve anything; therefore, they do not even want to try. Some of them cannot go because of financial reasons. Once they start going, they drop out because their savings are depleted. The likelihood of a student going or not going to graduate school has declined due to the influence of financial aid (Montgomery, 2006). A reduction in the amount of opportunities available lowers the chance of being enrolled and increases the likeliness of dropping out of school. Thus, recommendation is for schools that financial aspect is a considerable inhibitor of enrollment and completion of a degree. As a matter of fact, several students that received the Gates Millennium Scholarship were surveyed. The survey pointed out 79.6% that explained how this scholarship had helped them attending the institution they wanted to get in, while 18% that said that the scholarship did not really have an effect on them because they were able to pay their own tuition. (Davis et al, 2013). African Americans have usually a low socio-economic status, and have a hard time paying for their tuition. The Gates Millennium Scholarship which is designed for those kinds of students that want to do something with their life and their country. Because they have the wrong kinds of friends, their level of motivation drops; therefore, it is just them. Some of them prefer some others have vocational identities. Because people possess various types of intelligence, such as musical, creative, mathematical, body-kinesthetic…, so a lot of them just prefer to excel in matters that they like and continue on in their lifetime. They just do what they show a certain level of proficiency. College students, being the nucleus of a society, need the necessary tools to overcome the diverse barriers in life specifically the financial ones. This can relieve them emotionally, and helping them can push them to reach their goals. Since Obama administration had been working on this, there has been an increase in the financial aid. Colleges need to partner with organizations to leverage the access and affordability and the financial aid department can always work for example with the Gates Millennium Scholarship. Being a particular element in the economic field of a country, college needs to be cost-effective to college students.
