Technology has improved innumerable sectors in industries such as sports. Stadiums, scoreboards, sound systems, training facilities, athletic wear, and protective equipment have been upgraded over the last few decades. Specifically, technology has improved protective equipment to keep athletes safe. Currently, some of the most worrisome injuries are concussions and other head injuries; they occur in all different types of sports and activities, but the highest amount of head injuries occur in football (Stone). For this reason, protective headgear is of the highest importance for professional and nonprofessional football players. New discoveries about brain injuries have made a priority to protect the head.
Osteoporosis is a disease in which the bones become so weak and brittle that even a cough can cause enough stress on the bone that it will cause the bone to facture. The most commonly broken bones are the hip, wrist, and the spine. Although it affects men and women of all races, post-menopausal Caucasian and Asian women are more commonly affected than those of other ethnicities and sexes. In fact, thirty percent of all post-menopausal women in the US and Europe will be diagnosed with Osteoporosis and at least 40 percent of those will suffer from a fracture in their lifetime.
Osteoporosis is a bone disease of that causes a decrease in bone mass. In osteoporosis the bones become weak and fragile. Since the bone mass is decreased, the bones have more of chance of fractures. The bone is continuously breaking down by cells which is known as osteoclasts and rebuilding by other cells known as osteoblasts. Osteoporosis happens once the reabsorption causes the bones to reach a fracture threshold. Any fall or lifting action that would not ordinarily bruise or strain the common person would break one or additional bones in somebody with severe osteoporosis. “Women of fair, freckled complexion with blonde or reddish hair, and women from northwest European background have a higher incidence of osteoporosis than the general population” (Rosdahl, 2012, p.1248). Osteoporosis most commonly happens in postmenopausal women. Some risk factors include age, menstrual status, smoking, sedentary lifestyle caffeine use, and alcohol consumption.
Osteoporosis was first mentioned by Sir Astley Paston Cooper. Other common symptoms include gum disease, tooth decay, premature graying of hair, arthritis, low back pain, leg cramps, and nail growth. Fragility fracture occurs when a person falls from a standing position or a low height and breaks a bone that would not break in a person with a healthy bone. Heritability of bone mass estimated to account for 60-90% of its variance (Kaczkowsi, 2013).
Moreover, people have to restrain eating instant foods, coffee and alcohol. The proper amount of drinking can prevent fracture, but excessive alcohol can reduce the absorption of calcium. In addition, drinking depletes calcium that creates bones and levels of estrogen. Next, smoking interferes to reduce the body’s abilities that generate bones and heal the fracture. When people quit smoking quickly up, the strength of the bones and the abilities will be better to recover damages.
Leave Hard Candy Alone. Sucking on a hard piece of candy sounds good, until you decide to take a bite. Sinking your teeth into something so hard can damage your teeth, causing them to break, crack and even chip. However, all hard candies are not high in sugar. Some candies are low in sugar, tastes great, and will do little or no damage to your enamel, if you can remember to brush.
Fibular fractures may be complete or incomplete fractures. Fibula fractures may occur anywhere along the bone. The fracture we are trying to fixate is a complete fracture. Fractures occur when a force is placed on the bone that is greater than it can withstand, and when a fracture does occur in the fibula, it’s usually at the same time as the tibia. When only the fibula fractures, it is usually because of a direct blow to the side of the leg or an extreme sideways bend at the ankle or knee. Some other common causes of fibular fracture include, direct hit from doing contact sports such as hockey or lacrosse, stress fracture; weakening of the bone from repeated stress, or indirect injury, caused by twisting, turning quickly, or violent muscle contraction. Tripping, falling or impact during an accident are also major causes of fibular
I decided to do my research report on dentistry because it is a perfect blend of science and art. It is a science in that you must fully comprehend on the different types of diagnostic and procedures you are doing. It is an art in that you are constantly working with your hands to create a beautiful smile. The impact you make on helping a person achieve an impeccable smile is not one to compare with materialistic things like money or cars. People often mistake dentist as only doing practices when in fact they could do more, like research. I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to interview Dr. Sarah Pham, DDS, a close family friend who practices dentistry in her own private office in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Pham was
Birth control implants are becoming an increasingly popular method of birth control. They are preferred by some women over other contraceptive methods due to their extreme effectiveness, discreetness, fast reversibility, ability to be used while breastfeeding, and lack of medication to keep up with everyday. The implants first appeared in the 1960s and have since been improved upon to become smaller with less rods and longer lasting effectiveness. The newest and most popular models of the implant consist of an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer plastic
