I am completing a health science degree at Southern Adventist University. Once I attain my master’s degree and certification, I will be qualified to begin work as a speech-language pathologist. I am currently uninterested in opening my own practice. However, I understand that this mindset could change as I gain more experience in the field. As of right now, I plan to work at a hospital or school in Florida. As a speech-language pathologist, it is my job to diagnose and treat any ailments that affect the speech, such as a cleft palate, a stutter, or a lisp. To successfully complete my job, I will need to be “Fit for Hire.” This means taking personal responsibility to equip myself with the tools needed to succeed in the workplace. While I am in college, I need to develop my interpersonal, communicating, and negotiating skills. It means taking care of my mind by evaluating each day and striving to do better next time. “Fit for Hire” means that I need to take care of my body by exercising and eating healthy …show more content…

The first one would be regularly eating healthy and exercising. This is a struggle for me because I do not prioritize my health the way I should. Adhering to an exercise schedule would be easier if my activity of choice was enjoyable. To resolve this issue, I plan to join a Pilates class at the gym. The motivation of others will keep me inspired to work towards my goals. Even with my sporadic exercising as of late, it has always been easier for me to exercise consistently than to maintain a healthy diet. With little time in-between classes and work, it is difficult to spend the time making healthy food choices. When I am rushed or stressed, I reach for convenience foods; leaving me sluggish and unsatiated. To counteract this cycle, I will begin planning out my meals beforehand and shopping for the week on Sundays. This would help me become more conscious of my dietary
