Before I was assigned this paper to test my nutrition, I would say I have only been moderately conscious of what I eat, but have never sat down and really thought about what goes into my body on a daily basis. I was taught good values when it comes to eating healthy, but like most college kids, it is easy to stray from those once away from home due to budget, time constraints, or availability. I was excited to see how I stack up in the different values and where I could improve on going forward to become a better healthy eater. I do wish to live as long and as healthy as possible. Wardlaw (2013) found that “34% of the total population is obese. There is no quick cure for overweight, despite what ads say, it takes hard work and commitment.” …show more content…
I believe that something that will help me to being healthy is continuing to learn and eventually master excellent eating habits. Wardlaw (2013) research points to “Developing healthy patterns during childhood, therefore, will go a long way to ensuring healthy preferences and choices when we are teenagers and adults” Again, it is reinforced that early learning of healthy eating is key to a life of being healthy, I am proud of my parents for teaching me the basics, but I still need to learn on my own and I feel that this project helped me in that effort. After my three days of analyzing the different foods, I found that I had a number of nutrients that were below 70% of the Recommended Dietary Allowances. The first nutrient that jumped out was my protein intake, which was 208%, well over the daily allowance. Smith (n.d.) …show more content…
Going forward, I will have to improve my eating alone and with friends. When I eat alone, I tend to either eat at odd times, which can throw off my day or I tend to eat things that are very quick to save time or add convenience. When I eat alone, usually what happens is I don’t think about food until after I would usually eat which can cause myself to overeat, or eat poor nutritional foods. Finally, I need to do a better job of going outside, so often in Wisconsin we get used to sitting inside due to weather, when this happens we get confortable being lazy and eating a lot. I know that I have certainly fallen victim to this, so I need to improve my willpower when it comes to saying no and trying my best to get outside when I
This process has not been easy and I have struggled to stay consistent with my healthy eating habits. Keeping my cravings under control has always been a challenge and my love of bread makes things a little harder. I also recognized that I am a stress eater. I had never paid attention to my eating patterns until I begin to keep a journal. This project has definitively helped me monitor and attain a better Healthier lifestyle.
Nutritionism and Today’s Diet Nutritionism is the ideology that the nutritional value of a food is the sum of all its individual nutrients, vitamins, and other components. In the book, “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan, he critiques scientists and government recommendations about their nutritional advice. Pollan presents a strong case pointing out the many flaws and problems that have risen over the years of following scientific studies and government related warnings on the proper amount of nutrients needed for a healthy diet. Pollan’s main point is introducing science into our food system has had more of a negative impact than a positive one, we should go back to eating more of a traditional diet. I believe food science has given us
The question comes up again; “How is your diet?” Jessica revisited her diet analysis from the first week of class. She noticed that some things have changed and some things, unfortunately, have not changed. She knew that some things would not change because of the hectic and busy semester and summer she had ahead of her but the things that did change surprised her. This class did some good for her, but she still needs some work on her diet and nutrition.
Nutrition, I have learned plays a big part in our life. To be honest I was clueless about how much nutrition affected our everyday lives. I love going to the gym working out, now that I know what should go into my diet I think I will see a lot more improvement. I occasionally follow the latest diet fads because I believed it would be better for my health, but in turn it really hurt more than it helped! This Diet Analysis project has been extremely useful course because I can personally relate to it and can use much of the information learned to my daily routines. The Diet Analysis project was a real eye opener because it let me see what exactly I was putting into my diet.
Nutrition and physical activity are important aspects as they improve health and reduce chronic diseases. In June of this year my family physician placed me on a doctor assisted weight loss program that enabled me to eat my favorite foods but in appropriate proportions and in heathier ways. The best part about Supertracker is that it gives me wonderful tools to support me in understanding and meeting my goals. Once I created a profile through Supertracker I was provided a personal plan to follow including the amount of grains, vegetables, fruits, and protein I needed to be successful. For three consecutive days, I entered my food and activity intake into Supertracker and was able to analyze the excesses and deficiencies
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.
One way that I can modify my diet is by adding more nutrient rich foods. Cut out junk foods including chips, candy, cookies, cakes and other unhealthy snacks. I can also instead of going too fast food restaurants make a salad, or make healthy lean cuisine dinners that contain all of the food groups. Eating fruits can also be a way to ensure I am getting the nutrients that I need. I could fix a cup of my favorite fruits which is pineapples and strawberries, I should also make sure that the fruits are fresh and do not have any added sugars or preservatives. It would also be helpful if I slowly take the unhealthy foods out of my diet and replace them with the nutrient- rich foods, because I feel if I just completely change my diet from what I am used to I will be harder to do. I also need to add vegetables to my diet because I rarely eat vegetables. Ways that I can add vegetables to my diet is by steaming them, grilling them or baking them. Or when I go to restaurants instead of getting my usual French fries with my meal I could instead get a side of broccoli, corn or steamed vegetables. These are some ways that I will be able to switch out the unhealthy foods and add more nutrients rich foods that will help me to develop a healthier

Eating is extremely important, it is also important to eat healthy. Most Americans eat without any concerns; they are not questioning or researching what they are feeding themselves or their family. A lot of that has to do with their financial stability, not having the time to prepare a meal due to their time-consuming work schedule, also lack of knowledge and education on what they are consuming. In this bibliography, I will go over all three articles and explain what they are about.
After a long deliberation I decided to do my behavior modification project on my unhealthy eating habits. There are many meaningful reasons why I choose this as my behavior to modify. I want to kick start a healthy lifestyle change by eating healthier and being more active. Another upside to modifying this behavior is too hopefully *fingers crossed* lose a few unwanted pounds. The long term goal of this change is to live a happier, healthier life, and become more confident in myself. I have high hopes that I can achieve all of these goals by cutting out junk food and sweets and replacing those items with nutritious and balanced food.
Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I can change in my intake of foods to make my diet healthy and to see what about my diet is affecting me from being healthy because I could affect me in the future.
One of the reason’s why I felt my nutrition needed to changes is because nutrition is a huge part of a healthy lifestyle, the way that we eat and what foods we consume can have a huge impact on our everyday lives. Nutrition plays a huge role in multiple facets of a person’s life energy, health, skin, weight, confidence, and more making having a good control on your eating habits extremely important. How we eat over the years and what foods we routinely choose to eat can eventually have a lasting effect on use and what we consider to be most appealing and appetizing at any given moment. Having these craving and routine habits makes eating, diet, and nutrition both a behavior and a lifestyle choice that can be changed over time with help from the theories learned in this class.
First, I will address the root issue of many people’s eating habits, and then I will expand on why and how to develop a healthier lifestyle.
Do you dream of living a long, healthy life? Fortunately, it is much easier to achieve this dream today, in a world that is more technologically and medically advanced than ever before. Because of these favorable advances, the life expectancies in most countries have increased. It is not enough, however, to solely rely on technology and medicine to increase your life expectancy. In order to make your dream a reality, you need to take a few additional steps. To improve your chances of living a long life, you should eat and drink healthy, have a consistent sleep routine, be physically and mentally active, reduce causes of stress and depression, avoid and/or quit smoking, and abstain from overindulgence.
Previously to taking this class, I had never given much thought to my eating habits. I always thought of the way I chose to eat as one of those things I didn’t need to concern myself with too heavily now because I’m a young broke college student. The way I eat is pretty similar to the way most of my friends eat and when you live away from home, that seems like the norm for people in college. However, after applying what I’ve learned in this class to my life, I’ve realized that the dietary choices I make now affect not only my current health, but my future health as well. So overall, I would say that my eating habits are pretty bad, but I’m working on making them better.
