For my diet analysis I am not proud to explain the foods I have been consuming by what I have learned so far this year within this class. With all the fast foods and fatty foods that I am trying to convert into energy that I need for my body to work to its fullest. The problem is that with the bad decisions of a fast food product that is just processed animal parts that are contaminated with different preserved liquids and fluids the companies inject to the animal that allows it to grow faster, but not so healthy as fast food companies project. On Monday consuming 1852 calories, for breakfast I ate a egg, cheese and bacon sandwich. Two hamburgers from McDonalds for lunch and two tacos from Taco Bell. For Monday I went over on my limit …show more content…
You’ll be less stressed out because certain foods have the ability to moderate our body’s level of cortisol, the stress hormone. You will be able to control your weight because healthy choices such as replacing soda with water, choosing carrots instead of chips, and ordering a side salad in place of fries not only will help you lose weight, it also can help you save money. You’ll age better because fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants can help protect your skin. The last reason I have for a healthy diet Is because you will be healthier especially over the long term, unhealthy eating can be a risk factor for chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, obesity and heart diseases. A big problem I can fix with my eating habits is to prepare more of my own meals because cooking more meals at home can help me take charge of my eating and better monitor exactly what goes into my foods. When cutting back on unhealthy foods in my diet, it is important to replace them with healthy alternatives. Replacing dangerous trans fats with healthy fats such as switching fried chicken with grilled fish will make a positive difference to my health. Instead of being overly concerned with counting calories, I should think of my diet in terms of color, variety, and …show more content…
By definition the food pyramid is a nutritional diagram in the shape of a pyramid, the Food Guide Pyramid. Ecology says it is a graphic representation of predatory relationships in the food chain, in which various forms of life are shown on different levels, with each level preying on the one below it. It is a optimal number of serving to be eaten each day from each of the basic food groups. The first food pyramid was published in Sweden in 1974. While examining the diagram it is saying that you should consume 6-11 servings of bread, cereal, rice and pasta group. For the food group 2-4 servings, vegetable group 3-5 serving. Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs and nuts group says 2-3 servings, milk, yogurt, and cheese group is 2-3 servings and coming in at the end (or top of the diagram) fats, oils and sweets says to use sparingly. With the bottom of the pyramid, the biggest part, is the bread, cereal, rice and pasta group. This pyramid shows that it is where you should get them most servings per day the top part, the fats, oils and sweets group is the smallest. That shows that you shouldn’t have too much fat or oil in your diet. There has been research done on which nutrient is good for your immune system and it comes to find the winner is protein. Protein is composed of the 20
Nutritionism and Today’s Diet Nutritionism is the ideology that the nutritional value of a food is the sum of all its individual nutrients, vitamins, and other components. In the book, “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan, he critiques scientists and government recommendations about their nutritional advice. Pollan presents a strong case pointing out the many flaws and problems that have risen over the years of following scientific studies and government related warnings on the proper amount of nutrients needed for a healthy diet. Pollan’s main point is introducing science into our food system has had more of a negative impact than a positive one, we should go back to eating more of a traditional diet. I believe food science has given us
Michael Pollan makes arguments concerning the eating habits of the average American. Pollan suggests, in spite of our cultural norms, we should simply “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly Plants.”
The following is an analysis of Joe Smith's food intake for one day by using the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) website using a food tracker program. The analysis addresses the serving sizes consumed, which food groups were represented, and adjustments in consumption that should be made since Mr. Smith would like to loose weight. Visual representations are attached for reference in the appendix.
For my book report I chose the book Business Builders in Fast Foods by Nathan Aaseng. This book is about the growth of the fast food industry and individual fast food restaurants. The first chapter was a introduction over the food industry and the rest of the chapters were over the begining of fast food restaurants including: Harvey’s House, White Castle, Dairy Queen, McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Domino’s and their creators.
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.
Describe your dietary habits (see assignment #1 from PHAS 5009) and discuss how those habits may be influencing your risk for chronic diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, osteoporosis, etc.
Americans made a big mistake back in 1916 that has changed the way other countries view America! In 1916 in America, the first ever fast food restaurant was opened. It was called White Castle, according to http://www.accupos.com/pos-articles/history-of-fast-food-in-america.php. Though this fast food restaurant did not affect people and their weight, until the end of the 1950’s, when people were inspired by White Castle to start their own fast food restaurants. Fast food is one of the main causes of obesity and causes many Americans suffer from chronic diseases, like gallbladder cancer, atherosclerosis, and diabetes, every year. Fast food has also shaped the way other countries see America.
The food pyramids are basically an outline of what you should eat during the day that is healthy. Knowing what you eat is important because nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrients and vitamins and if you don?t eat healthy then you can acquire diseases and dietary disorders. The new food pyramid tells you that you should include whole grains and plant oils in most meals because if you include plant oils and whole grains in most meals it reduces the rate of heart diseases & whole grains contain Vitamin B and Vitamin B is essential for growth, the functioning of the stomach and intestines, and they are also essential for the nervous system. In the Bio Analogics article it states that nearly two-thirds of residents of United States are overweight, and since 1991 the incidence of obesity has risen from 12 percent to more than 25 percent. This is due to the amount of junk food and burgers, we ate daily. To see if I am also one of these fast food consuming eaters, I composed a diary of what I eat daily and I discovered that within my weekly schedule, that’s between school and work- I eat hamburgers at least three times a week. I ate these burgers not just from one place, I ate them from four different places. The first one I ate was at In-and-Out. The second one was at Fuddruckers. The fourth day I had one in McDonalds and on the sixth day in which my friends and I went to Applebee’s after work and I still had the nerve to order a hamburger even when there were other items on the menu.
America is a capitalist society. It should come to a surprise when we live like this daily. We work for profit. We’ll buy either for pleasure or to sell later for profit. It should come to no surprise that our food is made the same way because we are what we eat. We are capitalist that eat a capitalist meal. So we must question our politics. Is our government system to blame for accepting and encouraging monopolies?
First semester of college, I was living in the dorms called Eaton, which is located next to a dining center and a “fast food” place called Clyde’s. For me, it was very easy to walk a half of a mile down the sidewalk to get something fast to eat. What I didn’t realize was how bad their food is for you and how often I made an appearance there. It wasn’t until winter break when I came home for a couple weeks and started to get back to my old ways of eating when my mom would prepare every meal, which would include some type of meat, potatoes, and fruits and vegetables. I never noticed how bad I was eating until I was home and started eating more responsibly. Luckily I moved to a different dorm where
In discussions of the obesity epidemic, one controversial issue has been increasing regulations on junk food. On the one hand, supporters of the idea argue that it is the U.S. government 's responsibility to protect its citizens from diseases like obesity, and that extra regulations would do just that. On the other hand, detractors contend that more government regulations would limit consumer choice and infringe on human rights. Others even maintain that junk food should be illegal. My own view is that fast food corporations are mostly responsible for the obesity epidemic and should be further regulated.
Fads diets deliver immediate results in weight management, which helps in preventing weight-related health issues. This helps in reducing the risks of hypertension, diabetes and heart diseases.
