Business Builders in Fast Food For my book report I chose the book Business Builders in Fast Foods by Nathan Aaseng. This book is about the growth of the fast food industry and individual fast food restaurants. The first chapter was a introduction over the food industry and the rest of the chapters were over the begining of fast food restaurants including: Harvey’s House, White Castle, Dairy Queen, McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Domino’s and their creators. Furthermore, before the fast food industry people just had home cooked meals. Everywhere they went either that be church events or family gatherings, everything people ate was home cooked. If people were traveling the worst part of the trip would be the fact that they could not eat …show more content…
McDonald’s was created by the McDonald’s brothers(hint the name), Maurice and Richard, who wanted, from the beginning, to start their own business. After four years of trying to run a movie theater, the brothers decided to start a drive-in restaurant. By 1940’s the brothers started earning $50,000 a year. Instead of being happy, the brothers grew bored. Together they came up with a new idea and remodeled their whole place into a fast food place. No more serving people in their cars, time to serve people fast and cheap. Revolutionizing the food industry …show more content…
It shows the struggles of creating a successful business in the real world and the hard work that goes along with it. It teaches people how a business has to evolve with their customers needs and wants. The business can’t stay the same, it has to keep changing in order to keep the flow of customers. When I first picked up this book, I was like, “This is going to be so boring.” Then halfway through the second chapter, I started to get interested. By no time, I finished the book and realized I enjoyed it. I was able to learn about people’s ideas and how hard they worked to get their business to be successful. It was really interesting to learn about these people’s lives and how they changed over time. Also, how their business changed over time as well. Most of these people went through several different business, before they became successful. Next time when I pick up a book, I will try to judge it by the cover. I that the book was great. I definitely encourage others to read it. Everyone could benefit from reading it, whether they want to start their own business or not. This book teaches about self-confidence, work ethic, and
I really enjoyed reading this book. It truly gives you a lot to think about. I'm only in high school which doesn't give me much opportunity right now of getting a good job, even though I'm going to be in need of one since I'm having a baby. This book made me see that I better have a good education to get a good job or I'm not going to be able to take care of myself and a baby.
My overall opinion of this book is good I really liked it and recommend it to anyone. It is a good book to read and it keep you interested throughout the whole book.
...corporates a main religious symbol and other symbolic terms into the book as a whole idea and base for his story. There was a lot to like about the book and very little to dislike for me, as the main character reminded me of myself, and I enjoyed how everything ties together in the book. I enjoyed the plot and setting of the book and liked how there were clues through out the book on how things would happen, some more evident then others. The only thing I didn’t like about the book were thee items used in that fashion within the house. Although the author described everything very well in the book there were some things he left out or assumed the reader already knew. To me I didn’t get some of the items use but for a more educated people it could have been easy. Overall I had a great time reading the book and think others should read it to, in my opinion of course.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, it takes an in depth look at individuality and the thought process with and without outside control. It makes you think about how indirectly the government controls small details around you. What would happen if the government wanted to take control of you completely? How easy would it be?
This book was a good read for me, but I also read book reviews to help me keep track on what I am reading. These book reviews just made a better understanding of what I was reading.
The book called Fast Food Nation is an insightful book that even in the title itself creates an impact on readers, and gets their minds to visualize what exactly it means. Our country has slowly but surely become centered around fast food and all the wonderful things that appear to come along with it. Almost everything we have in our country goes back to the fast food industry, and how it influences the everyday lives of Americans. This influence that is inflicted upon the US citizens is not a positive thing, because of the horrible impact that it is having on the the consumers of the fast food. Fast food can cause results that are negative to consumers that eat this particular style of food that has swept the nation, because of the unhealthy
Overall I enjoyed reading this book, I read it a few years ago in high school, but I took more from it this time and was able to apply it more to my experiences and events I have witnessed. I’m glad the novel was assigned for me to read because it really made me think about the world today and how we interact in the world. It actually brought up questions and connections that I didn’t see when I read the book years ago. This novel will always be relevant and I’m sure will be read years from now.
... cross my mind but I find myself thinking differently since enrolling in this class. I enjoyed this book because it allowed me to relate to the main character, reflect on my life, and try to change myself in the process of reading it. I was able to see the parts of my life that had not been even fathomed before. When reading the book I found it difficult to read and somewhat boring but once I thought about the concepts and people involved in our class it gave me a better understanding of the book. One piece of advice would be to have the five people/ five concepts before reading these books because I feel I missed some key points looking back on the book. I feel that knowing these people/concepts before reading the book would have helped me understand the book better. This book was and interesting one and allows for every reader to have their own interpretation of it.
One of the most shocking books of the generation is Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation. The novel includes two sections, "The American Way" and "Meat and Potatoes,” that aid him in describing the history and people who have helped shape up the basics of the “McWorld.” Fast Food Nation jumps into action at the beginning of the novel with a discussion of Carl N. Karcher and the McDonald’s brothers. He explores their roles as “Gods” of the fast-food industry. Schlosser then visits Colorado Springs and investigates the life and working conditions of the typical fast-food industry employee. Starting out the second section, Schlosser travels to the western side of Colorado to examine the effects presented to the agriculture world in the new economy. Following Schlosser’s journey across the nation, he leads everything up to slaughterhouses and the main supply of income for fast food franchises – the meat. After visiting the meat industries in America, Schlosser explores the expansion of fast food around the eastern hemisphere – including the first McDonalds in Germany. Throughout Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser presents in his point of view and informative tone, a detailed disscussion of the conditions using various examples imagry and flowing diction/syntax to help support and show his audience the reasoning behind the novel.
I would recommend this book to anyone, it has sections that almost everyone can relate to. When people see the issue they are facing in print it helps them come to terms that they are not unique or alone with life being difficult. If they read that through therapy the person they relate to is now living healthy and happy lives it gives them hope that their problems can be faced and they can live normal lives.
I personally found this book to be an excellent read, and while I haven’t read to many business management books. I can feel safe to say that I think this one does an excellent job in conveying key management principals for today’s workplace. It also appealed to me due to my fascination with the way in which our military operates. I believe he did a great job of staying clear of getting too detailed in either is leadership model and military jargon. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels intimidated by management books that read more like a textbook, who want to learn but also enjoy the reading too.
Like I’ve said before I really enjoyed reading this book and normally I don’t prefer book that are assigned. I enjoyed how Mr. Carnegie was very honest about life and how he approached different situations in life. I also l liked how he used his mistakes as a life lesson. I would defiantly recommend this book to other people and I would defiantly reread it.
Most people eat out, about “55%of people eat fast food during the week” (Alfano). Fast food is just easier; it gives parents time to settle in at home after work and children to get homework or showers in before bed. Cooking meals come with having to clean a decent amount of dishes which is inconvenient for everything that needs done after school and before bed. Unsurprisingly, “17% of people eat a home cooked meal 7 nights a week”, 17% is very low compared to the people who eat fast food during the week (Alfano). Families do not always eat out each day a week, some manage to eat a home cooked meal “2-3 nights a week” that is at least “27%” of the people surveyed (Alfano). Not eating nutritious home cooked meals really affect children because “when people aren’t cooking
Fast food has changed the face of the world. Major chains like McDonalds span all over the world. Fast food chains are continuing to grow despite numerous facts of their unhealthiness. Fast food has been proven to be a dangerous food source, yet people continue to purchase it. The more people buy fast food the more it allows the big corporations to grow. People continue to eat fast food because there are no other convenient options.
