The Felis silvestris, or wildcat, are located primarily in Africa, Europe, southwest Asia, and Central Asia. Due to their largely populated area they are not seen as an animal that will be going extinct any time soon. They come in various types(colors) of fur because of their geographic differences and are slightly larger than a housecat. Evidence shows that the housecat might have came from the African wildcat a near 10,000 years ago to be used to keep rodents away from stored goods in the Fertile Crescent. The genetic diversity is being compromised by the crossbreeding between wildcats and housecats and could begin to effect the extinction likeliness. Wildcats have been around since the late Pilocene(2-5 mya), the last ice age left many fossils of these animals in caves and …show more content…
such. Within the last 50,000 years it is known that they migrated to the Middle East, and into new parts of Asia and Africa around 10,000 years ago.
The 22 known subspecies of wildcats are separated into the Forrest, Steppe, and Bay or Bush Wildcats. The wildcat is closely related to the sand, Chinese mountain, jungle, and black-footed cats but the wildcat is much less complex than any of its relatives. Compared to the housecat species, the wildcat species is relatively larger, but is smaller than that of other members of the Felinae. A wildcat looks similar to a tabby housecat with longer legs which gives it a taller stance, and also has a larger, spherical head. The tail is long(usually longer that half that of the body), and its ears are a normal length, yet broad at the base. Their eyes are large with vertical pupils, yellowish-green in color. The male wildcat is normally larger in weight, tail length, and body length and the largest of all come from cool, northern parts of Europe. Wildcats posses scary good night vision, having up to 100% better vision than a housecat and can possibly see colors as well. Their sense of smell can reach up to 218 yards, that’s almost two entire football
fields. Many wildcats are parasitised, carrying up to five different parasitic species; they are also commonly infested with fleas(that they contract from brown rats), and ticks. Wildcats eat small rodents(primary prey), birds, dormice, hares, and nutria, usually up to 600 grams daily. They can consume bones as well causing little to no harm to themselves. Due to their rocky, tall tree, and abandoned habitat the wildcat does not have very many predators. The small predation that is present comes from pine martens, raptors, eagle-owls, and saker falcons which kill baby wildcats; village dogs, wolves, and pythons are the only predators whom an adult wildcat has to worry about. Jungle cats, golden jackal, red foxes, martens, and a few other predators are among the wildcats competitors. Even though a jungle cat and wildcat fill the same ecological niche, they rarely interact with each other, mainly due to their different geological selection. Wildcats are solitary for the most part other than when breeding, their territorial range varies due to the amount of resources that they can get in a particular area. They leave scratches on trees, “scent marks”, urinate on trees, vegetation, and rocks, as well as leaving feces in places to claim their territories and let others know that they are near by. A wildcat lives in the hollow part of fallen trees, fractures in rock, or nests instead of digging their own burrows. A threatened wildcat will not run up trees for safety but rather get into a den. Wildcats have two estrus periods that last 5-9 days and a pregnancy that lasts around 3 months. Baby kittens are born blind, with pink paw pads, blue eyes, and cannot do for themselves; they usually live for near 13-14 years but can also live up to 20-21 years.
At one time, the lynx lived all the way along the Continental Divide clear up into Canada. Now, after being gone from Colorado for 25 years, the animal has been reintroduced into the lower tip of the lynx's historic habitat, the San Juan Mountains (Rogers). So far, out of 33 lynx that are being tracked, all of them are roaming in 276 square kilometers of the southwestern portion of Colorado that runs from the New Mexico border up to the I-70 corridor and from Monarch Pass over to Taylor Mesa (Shenk). In an attempt to find out how the animals, which look like bobcats with black tufts on their ears and huge paws, act in nature, scientists are tracking them with radio collars and airplanes (Lloyd).
The Smilodon, the most recent type of saber tooth cats, went extinct about 10,000 years ago, around the time when Pangea began separating and breaking up. Sabertooth Cats did not go extinct due to lack of prey. However, around 12,000 years ago (end of the late Pleistocene) sabertooth cats, american lions, wooly mammoths and other gigantic creatures considered the “megafauna” went extinct. A die-off called the Quaternary extinction. A popular theory for the extinction is that the changing in climate during the end of the last ice age, human activity, or a combination of both killed off most large

1.A lot of people are misinformed, have misconceptions, or might not have any idea at all about what these animals are about. The ferret family, which includes weasels, mink, polecats, martins, skunks, badgers, otters, wolverines, and the endangered black-footed ferret. Early Greek literature suggests that unlike its cousins, the ferret has been domesticated for approximately two to three thousand years.

We understand that back in time many people had visions given to them by God. The bible talks about many prophets who had dreams given to them by God. There has also been many false prophets who have told people false visions that were given to them by God. In this essay I will focus on my understanding of the Bible truth about dreams and visions and the contents of the vision portrayed in, “The Passion of the Holy Martyrs Perpetua and Felicitas”,
The ferret, known to the scientific community as Mustela Furo, is a domesticated version the European pole-cat and has been introduced into many parts of the world. But they threaten native prey species, ground nesting and flightless birds. Their habitat usually consists of semi-forested areas near a source of water. In Europe, you can usually find them in dune systems with large rabbit populations. In New Zealand they reside in grasslands, scrub, forest fringes, and suburban areas. Some ferrets are in a different category than Mustela Furo. The black-footed ferret is far from invasive; in fact there are probably only 1 thousand in the wild today. Those numbers are thanks to wildlife conservationists like zoos and some Native American tribes. Most of these ferrets reside in the grasslands of the Northern Great Plains. Mustela nigripes (the black-footed ferret) and Mustela Furo are very similar physically. They weigh close to the same amount and have similar heights/lengths but one of the main features that make them so drastically different is their food supply. Mustela Furo usually ...
Andreas Vesalius was well known for his dissections in the 1500’s. Growing up in Brussels he was captivated by the anatomy of animals. Throughout his childhood Andreas dissected many small animals trying to uncover life’s mystery. This curiosity regarding anatomy came very naturally, due to the fact that he was born into a family of physicians. Vesalius started his formal education at the University of Louvain; then traveled to Paris to continue his studies in medicine. During his life time, Vesalius was an accomplished physician, and professor of anatomy. He also received his degree as a doctor of medicine at the age of twenty-two. Vesalius writings and teachings set the foundation of anatomy we know today, hence why he received the title; founder of modern anatomy.
