Family Health Assessment is dynamic and progressive tool that plays an important role in developing an appropriate healthcare plan for the family. It helps in assessing the health of the family, addressing any health issues or concern, and assist in educating and making appropriate health-related choices or formulating proper intervention strategies for the family. The Gordon assessment involves 11 components to assess the health of the family.
Using the Gordon’s assessment, the family interviewed is a young couple that consists of a father (36 years old), a mother (34 years old), and a son (2 years old). The father works in the Information technology field, and the mother is a data analyst.
Value and Health Perception
The family acknowledges honesty, modesty, and reliability as the most important values to follow. Being a young family, they do not have any significant health problems and are generally in good health. As a family, they are very perceptive and actively involved in their health and well-being. They are pro vaccination and recognizes that immunizations are safe and effective, and can save lives. They are up-to-date

They avoid all sugary drinks such as soda, unnaturally sweetened fruit juices, etc. They mostly eat healthy home-cooked meals with at least two servings of fruits and vegetables per day. The two-year old’s favorite meal is fruits.
Sleep/Rest
On an average, the mother gets about five hours of sleep per night. The father usually sleeps approximately 6-7 hours per night. The toddler usually goes to bed around 11 pm and gets about 10-11 hours of sleep per day, including day naps. They do not complain of any problems with sleeping and are well-rested the next day.
Elimination
The parents do not complain of any bowel or bladder problems. They have a regular bowel movement pattern, defecating once a day. The toddler normally defecates 3-4 times a day
An F is a grade that many students fear of obtaining in their school career, unless the student does not care about his or her education. In Carl Singleton’s article, What Our Education Needs is More F’s, Singleton expresses his belief that if students begin to receive more F’s, students would be working harder to earn good grades, parents would become more considerate of their child’s education, and teachers would be stricter and harsher when grading. Therefore, education systems requiring teachers to frequently give more F’s will fix the “inadequacies of American education,” or so Singleton believes. (Singleton). Unfortunately, Singleton’s plan if enforced, would have several negative effects to it, such as; students’ motivation would instead diminish rather than accelerate, students would not
Several changes have occurred since the 1920s in traditional family values and the family life. Research revealed several different findings among family values, the way things were done and are now done, and the different kinds of old and new world struggles.
The family I chose to interview is a blended non-traditional family. There is a mother and her 6 kids. The kids come from two different guys that the gal was married to and a boyfriend that she has lived with in the past. The boyfriend still spends some nights with her.
Friedman Family Assessment Method is a very helpful tool for assessing a family. It assesses the social, spiritual, physical, and psychological, among other aspects of a family. Analysis of the assessment data using the Friedman model, allow nurses to develop a plan to improve family health and to live a healthy life. The assessment of the Smith’ family was a great experience as it exposes one to different aspects of community health.
The Calgary Family Assessment Model (CFAM) is a well-known comprehensive and multidimensional template used by nurses to assess families. CFAM begins by having the nurse visit with the family and gain insight on the family’s functioning at a particular point in time. Interviewing the family allows the nurse to assess and identify potential issues. Furthermore, the CFAM consists of three main assessment categories, known as structural, developmental, and functional. Each of these categories contains several subcategories that allow the nurse to examine all aspects of a family’s functioning. The goal of the CFAM is for the nurse to openly discuss family issues, provide insight to families from an outside perspective and guide them towards their own problem solving tactics. CFAM allows families and nurse to develop a plan of care that is mutually agreed upon. The following paper illustrates a family assessment completed using the CFAM and applies nursing diagnoses and interventions relevant to the family’s current issues (Wright & Leahey, 2013).
Also, the whole family needs to come to term with the health condition, make change in priorities and schedule, and keep the family. For example, it can be much more stressful for a young or a newly married couple because they may have more experience to overcome life's difficulties. As a result, as with individual maturation, family development can be delayed or even revert to a previous level of functioning (Hockenberry, p 762.) Therefore, health care providers need to apply family development theory while planning care for a child and family with chronic health condition. Indeed, family centered care should be a part of that intervention. Parents and family members have huge and comprehensive caregiving responsibilities for their chronically ill child at home or at hospital. Moreover, the main goal taking care of chronic ill child is to “minimize the progression of the disease and maximize the child’s physical, cognitive, psychological potential” (Hockenberry, p 763). Kaakinen, Gedaly-Duff, Coehlo & Hanson, (2010) report family is the biggest resource for managing care of individuals with chronic illness; family members are the main caregivers and provide necessary continuity of care. Therefore, it is important for health care providers to develop models of care based on an understanding what families are going through (Eggenberger, Meiers, Krumwiede, Bliesmer, & Earle, 2011). The family I chose to interview is in the middle of a transition in family dynamics. I used the family as a system approach as well as a structure-function theoretical framework to the effects of the changes in dynamic function. Additionally, the combinations of genogram, ecomap, adaptations of the Friedman Family Assessment model as well as Wright & Leahey’s 15 minute family interview were utilized.
To be healthy you must have four unsettles ingredients. These four things are eating healthy and the right amount, exercising regularly, sleeping well, and getting the right nutritious vitamins. A child two to eight years old need the same four unsettles to be healthy. The only difference is that they need a different amount of each that an adult. They must eat the recommended intake in each food group corresponding with their age and sex stated in the Canada’s food guide. They must also get daily excurses, with lots of sleep. The National sleep foundation recommends that children one to five years old should get 11 to 14 hours of sleep each night (National sleep foundation, n.d.) They must also get the right nutritious vitamins to help them grow. A good way to achieve this is with a child baste motley vitamin. I will be inspecting the intake of food a child in daycare consumes each day to see if them meet the recommendations set by The Canada food guide. Studying their strengths and weaknesses and how thy can be improved.
What are family values? One hundred years ago I feel this would have been an easier question to answer than it is today. Changing family structures and social norms have created a more fluid form of what we envision as a family. Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines a family as both “a group of persons with common ancestry” and as “a group of individuals living under one roof.” As we have discussed in class, a family is not simply nuclear anymore. In the stories we have read we have examined nuclear, single-parent, extended, and community-based families. All of which held the same feeling of importance and love for the people in it. Family is the basic unit of society. A family is a set of interacting individuals related by blood, marriage, cohabitation, or adoption who interdependently perform relevant functions by fulfilling expected roles. Health practices are those activities performed by individuals or families as a whole to promote health and prevent diseases. The relationship between members of family influences the understanding of behavior, which is demonstrated in family’s structural, functional, communicational, and developmental patterns (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2003; Bonell et al., 2003).Within families, children and adults are nurtured and taught about health values by word and by example, and it is within families that members first learn to make choices to promote health (Edelman & Mandle, 2010, p. 172).
As explained by Loghmani, Borhani, & Abbaszadeh, (2014), to establish the specific health conditions of a given family, a family health assessment is important to be performed. In addition, this procedure gives the nurse and other health care practitioners the ability to identify the health needs of the family. Therefore, through this process the nurse achieves the opportunity to communicate with the family, examine to detect potential risks for any health issues, get opportunities for health education, and provide health. Moreover, for the nurse to effectively succeed in this assessment, the interview needs to be performed effectively, data piled appropriately, and the nurse completes the examination. Families provide people with an atmosphere in which to live, grow, and develop. A family culture is established by the parents and instilled in the children during their upbringing. A healthy family is a family which follows a set of strong morals, stays loyal to one another, cooperates, and works together to avoid conflict. An environment where there is openness amongst family members is ideal because minds that are open are more susceptible to avoiding conflict than minds that are closed. If conflict gets the best of a family, it has the potential to increase hostility and create remoteness between family members, however, if a family resolves conflict, it can strengthen and enforce the family relationships.
Teens today lacked the simple values of yesterday because of the exposure to the negative things in the world. Family unity is communicating with each other. These family values differ from each other all over the world.
Every family has different values and how every family is different. From the time I was little till now I never really understood the meaning of the word family values. I think of it as two things family and then values; family is basically the people I live with. The people that support them and love them, even their parents and siblings and other adults that live there. Values are what we have but family value put together is values that are traditionally learned or relearned within a family, for example those of high moral standards and discipline.
