For a truly vintage escape, plan a weekend getaway to California’s Crystal Cove State Park Historic District, the location selected for the final beach scene in the 1988 film adaptation of Iris Rainer Dart’s Beaches novel. The meticulously restored 1930s to ‘40s era bungalows offer both seaside and bluff ocean views with private and dorm-style cottages. Twenty-four of forty-six structures in this historic, seaside colony are completely renovated and available for year-round rental. Enjoy weekly movies on the beach at the Beaches Film and Media Center as you learn about the role Crystal Cove played in the early film industry or breathe in coastal breezes while discovering your artistic talents in plein-air art lessons and sea glass wrapping.

For spring break of 2011, my family decided to go to California on vacation. Matthew served his mission there, and he wanted to show us Southern California. Of course, since the closest we had ever been to a beach was Jefferson Lake in Rigby, the first thing we set out to do upon landing in Los Angeles was locate a beach on the ocean. We parked our rental van at Manhattan Beach and ran to the clear water.
One of the best vacation spots and most fun are down the shore in Wildwood, New Jersey. Wildwood consists of a boardwalk with tons of rides and fun, a beach with a beautiful ocean, and little summerhouses with ocean-side views. The best attractions though would probably be located on the boardwalk. There are so many things to see and do. Although it’s rather costly, it’s well worth it and it’s a great place for a family to share quality time together.
There are many reasons the ocean is my favorite place to be. These range from the atmosphere and people at the ocean to the scenery experienced while there. It is a time for me to be free from all the hassles in my life and to "get away from it all," even if it is only for a week. The ocean should be enjoyed for what it is. Loud noise and all the hustle and bustle of boardwalks should not exploit it. At the ocean I can feel at home and at peace because it is my favorite place to be.

As I opened my eyes, I saw him laying there, still sleeping and exploring his deepest thoughts. The brisk morning air nibbled at my nose as the sun, just rising over the mountains, warmed my body. I leaned over and gave him a gentle kiss on his lips to wake him. He opened his eyes slowly and looked over at me with a smile. As he stroked the side of my face with his gentle hand, I felt this chocolate colored skin melt over me. After laying there holding each other in perfect silence, we decided to put our clothes on and go for a morning hike.
In The beach, the desire to find “a perfect escape” (364), to find authenticity, to collect experiences and to be travellers rather than just mere tourists, is delineated in a complex and extreme way. At first, the backpackers in the novel point out that there is hardly a possibility for the perfect escape because there is nothing that has not already been done. Etienne tells Richard: “Very boring… I want to do something different and everybody wants to do something different, but we all do the same thing” (19). Essentially, the only way to actually do something different would be to construct authenticity in an Eden-like place- the beach. Although paradoxical, the authenticity of the beach hinges mostly on its dissociation from the others, from the “world.”
The city boasts plenty of things to do and see- whether you want to enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water or you want to organize a game of beach volleyball, you can find countless outdoor activity spot over there. Additionally
I was smacked in the face by a gust of hot, humid Texas air as I found my way off the bus. The once brisk morning was getting hotter by the second. My friend Kristi and I looked towards our left and there she was, the Norwegian Sea. The cruise liner that we would be on for the next week. It was the biggest ship I had ever seen up close. Ten stories high and nearly 1000 feet long. It had an intimidating presence that took one's breath away.
Ever since Sunset Beach has been officially opened to the public, there has been a drastic increase of tourists present. Television programs concluded that at least a thousand people visit the beach everyday. Reasons for their stay are that they feel comfortable with the environment that surrounds the beach front, people who are at the beach are joyous and numerous activities to enjoy, and the fresh scent of the sparkly waters, make the visitors feel calm and pleasurable. So I decided to take a trip there.
Have you ever visited a place so beautiful and serene that you couldn’t imagine a more stunning place? For me, it is the shimmering and flowing waters of the ocean. The way that the deep blue waters meet the gritty beige sand leaves me in such awe. The water is like a soft blanket, comforting and inviting. The unique wildlife and vegetation that exists on the beach is something I’ve never seen anywhere else. There is no place more beautiful and thrilling than the beach.
