To be a person who suffer from extreme fatigue, Jamie Tulley wasn’t very good at falling asleep. Her doctor had said that she needed at least 8 hours of sleep each night. But the problem is that she feel she will lose valuable time sleeping. And her question was; why doesn’t the day hours feel valuable enough? Because that’s the time she wants to sleep, but is not allowed due to school and life.
She sighed waiting for the bus ride to end. The last part was a bumpy ride, and because she could feel and hear the books in her bag clapping into each other. Her school came to sight, and she knew that this day was very much like any other.
“I must tell you something” Michelle stifled a shriek. The corners of her mouth almost touched her big eyes. Jamie didn’t shift her position to face her friend, she only let her eyes glide to the side. If it were any other person, they would have taken this as a cue to leave, but it was Michelle. She was familiar with these kinds of behavior from Jamie, so she stayed, still as happy.
“I’m waiting for Oh Michelle, what is it? Please tell me, I beg you and you’re the greatest person ever.” Michelle exaggerated creating a desperate move that looked like fainting. Jamie slam her locker closed. “I don’t sound

like that” They started to walk down the hallway. “Maybe not on the outside, but on the inside you’re dying to know” Her smile hadn’t faded yet, and it made Jamie a bit curious. But she couldn’t be now, she had a point to prove. Whatever point that was. “Not really” Jamie shrugged taking a turn around the corner and up the main stairs at the school. Michelle tried to keep the pace up the stairs, but she has always been a person who is behind in anything gym related. Plus she’s wearing a short skirt she needs to drag down after each step. “Jamie!” inhale “Wait” exhale. “I must tell you anyway” Jamie rolled her eyes as she stopped at the third floor, waiting for Michelle to come up. “I have calculus in two minutes, so hurry” “I will, just give me a minute to catch my breath,” Michelle bent her upper body down holding her hands on her legs, breathing heavily. “Michelle!” “Okay, so I know you’re dating Scott,” “Yes, continue” “Let me then. I saw he drove Evangeline to school today,” “And so, they’re just friends, I don’t see your point” “And she kissed him on the cheek” “That doesn’t mean anything” “Come on, Jamie, don’t live in denial” “I don’t, and I trust my boyfriend because he’s my boyfriend and not someone else’s” “I tell you, he’s an idiot” “He’s not, and stop being so rude to my boyfriend!
Is this the reason why you’re so happy?”
“What no, that’s something else, but I’ll tell you later, class has started”
“Oh god Michelle, do you really have to be like this?”
“Acting all though, but really you’re dying to know”

She picked a seat in the way back, away from all the people. She silently stared out the window making a quiet list inside her head of all the things she had forgotten and all the people she remembered. Tears silently slid down her face as she remembered her aunt crying and cousins afraid of the dark in their house. She couldn’t do it anymore. It was the best for everyone she thought. Deep down though she knew how hard it would be for everyone to find out she was leaving. From her family’s tears, to the lady in the grocery store who was always so kind and remembered her name. She also knew how

In the days leading up to her graduation, she was so excited about receiving her diploma for her academic accomplishments, even though she hasn’t accomplished a lot in life by experiencing a little bit of it. She felt like the birthday girl with her pretty dress, beautiful hair, and the presents she received from Uncle Willie and her mother. She felt like it w...
Many times people think they can accomplish more if they could eliminate so much sleeping time. However, they are only hurting their productivity if they lose sleep. Two articles deal with the issue of sleep deprivation. The College Student Journal published an article about the grade-point average of college students and sleep length, while U.S. News & World Report produced an article dealing with the lack of
Sleep is one of our basic needs to survive and to function in day to day operations, but not everyone needs the same amount of sleep. Some people can survive on very little sleep, i.e. five hours a night, and some people need a lot of sleep, to the extend that they are sleeping up to 10 to sometimes 15 hours a night (Nature, 2005). According to Wilson (2005) the general rule states that most people need from seven to eight hours of sleep. The deprivation of sleep in our society in continually increasing with the demands in society increasing work loads, the myth that a few hours of sleep is only necessary to function properly and that sleep is sometimes considered as killing time (Nature, 2005). Sometimes sleep deprivation is also caused by other situations like sleep disorders, i.e. sleep apnea, chronic insomnia or medical conditions such as stress (Wilson, 2005).
Those few sleepless hours shouldn’t hurt, right? Unfortunately, those few hours could have prevented sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation affects one’s school performance and one’s health too. Many everyday appliances affect one’s sleeping patterns and habits as well. Lack of sleep is a problem not only for me, but for many teenagers. Sleep deprivation also takes a toll on physical and mental health along with other health problems. These obstacles will help one grow as a character because they can learn from their mistakes and solve them. By looking at what causes sleep deprivation, what the effects of sleep deprivation are, and what are the solutions to solve sleep deprivation, one can see that sleep is an important part to succeed in school and life.
Much of society mistakenly believes that each individual needs eight hours of sleep in order to have a full night’s rest. This is untrue because the amount of sleep you need has a large dependence on the many factors that influence healthy energy. Age is a large indicator of how much sleep is relevant to an individual. Studies done by Milner (2008), “Benefits of napping and an extended duration of recovery sleep on alertness and immune cells after acute sleep restriction” show that an adult needs nine hours a day in order to carry out work productively, feel rejuvenated, and maintain contented moods. In contrast, infants tend to need more time to rest their bodies even though they are less active. A young baby spends 2/3rds of their day
Have you ever stayed up too late? At one time or another most people have probably experienced that feeling where their eyes start to droop and blur. It’s their body telling them they need to sleep… But do they? Many people might think losing a night’s sleep or not sleeping enough is not a big deal, but in fact, continuously lacking sleep does affect people in a bad way. People should know the healthy amount of sleep they need and some solutions to sleeping problems. Sleep deprivation causes physical and mental effects on the human body and can be directly responsible for many fatal accidents.
Important public policy issues have arisen in our modern 24-hour society, where it is crucial to weigh the value of sleep versus wakefulness. Scientific knowledge about sleep is currently insufficient to resolve the political and academic debates raging about how much and when people should sleep. These issues affect almost everybody, from the shift worker to the international traveler, from the physician to the policy maker, from the anthropologist to the student preparing for an exam.
"The person said something bad occurred at Sally's, and I should hurry. I hope one of those—those malfunctions she’s always helping didn’t hurt her. You know how she is. Everyone’s tried to warn her, but she won't listen."
I scarcely snoozed at all, the day before; incidentally, I felt insecure regarding the fact of what the unfamiliar tomorrow may bring and that was rather unnerving. After awakening from a practically restless slumber, I had a hefty breakfast expecting that by the conclusion of the day, all I wanted to do is go back home and sleep. Finally, after it was over, my dad gladly drove me to school; there, stood the place where I would spend my next four years of my life.

Bonnie the secretary introduced me to my new teacher. As Mrs. Bonnie was leaving the room, my new teacher Mrs. Evaheart introduced me to the class. As I stared at the class I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed. I wanted to go back to my old school where I had friends, knew almost everyone, a place where I didn’t feel lonesome, a place anywhere but here. As I saw each and every one of my new classmates faces the utter dread that I felt slowly began to fade as I saw a familiar face.
