Do you think guns should be banned in the United States? There are many reasons why our society needs guns, our world is full of crazy people and they need to be able to protect themselves. Even if a gun ban was put into place, it wouldn’t stop criminals from owning them and killing people. The United States needs to allow their citizens to carry guns to protect themselves and their families. People should be required to take safety classes to purchase a gun. A gun ban wouldn’t decrease the amount of crime. According to Ellen Grace Jones, “Gun murders rose by 19% and armed robberies by 69% after a gun ban was introduced in 1997” in the U.S. This shows that banning guns isn’t going to reduce crime; in fact, it could increase it. feed off of crime, so even if the guns were banned they would still be able to get their hands on them no matter what the law was. Mexico also has restrictive guns laws but according to Kit Daniels “Over 160,000 people have been murdered in the drug war since 2007.” So why should the United States ban guns if it’s not working for other countries? There is no doubt that the United States of America should allow people to own guns, people need to be able to protect themselves.
Without guns, people are assaulted daily by criminals and have no way to defend themselves. Having a gun makes a person better to protect their self and their family. Even the Constitution states that people have the right to bear arms, so the United States would be violating that if they made guns illegal. Our first president George Washington once said, “Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence…” This shows that Americans need firearms because they're our form of protection and making them illegal violates the constitution. People should be required to take safety classes before purchasing a firearm because people can get hurt if they don’t know how to use them properly. The majority of gun crimes in America are involving gangsters shooting out other gangsters. An average gun owner never uses their gun to commit a crime. This means that people should have to take classes and other courses to own guns legally. According to Ammoland, “Most states issue permits to carry concealed handguns. Men and women who get permits take gun safety classes, and have extensive criminal background checks. These people make everyone a little, wherever they may be.” With that being said people do need to be able to protect themselves but they also need to know what
they’re doing so they don’t get hurt trying to do it. Guns are very serious, they’re not toys. The United States does not need to ban guns because they do help save lives. According to President Donald Trump, “Guns used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense.” This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives. Banning guns would not lower crime rate, it may actually increase it. Criminals would still use guns to kill people without even hesitating. Americans need guns to protect themselves, a criminal can easily come up to an innocent person and attack them for no reason and that person has no form of protection at all because guns would be illegal. People need to be able to protect their families as well but they do need to take a gun safety class so they know what they’re doing with a firearm. Without the classes people could kill themselves trying to protect themselves or their families.
Some people believe that extremely tight gun control laws will eliminate crime, but gun control laws only prevent the 'good guys' from obtaining firearms. Criminals will always have ways of getting weapons, whether it be from the black market, cross borders, or illegal street sales. New gun control laws will not stop them. Since the shootings of Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook, the frequency of mass shootings has increased greatly. Gun control is not effective as it has not been shown to actually reduce the number of gun-related crimes. Instead of considering a ban of private firearm possession, and violating individual ownership rights, it may be more practical to consider the option of partially restricting firearm access.
Firstly, the claims that guns contributing to higher crime rates are completely over exaggerated. Most people are spoon-fed by the mainstream media that guns contribute to higher crime rates. In fact, in large cities like Chicago it has been proven that laws like handgun bans have worsened crime rather than alleviate it. When they did this in Chicago, politicians were hoping that this would bring crime levels down (Peterson 25). In the midst of all this, everyone as soon as the politicians proclaimed it would work, was singing their praises and saying that it would, or so they thought. So did the handgun ban succeed? Not necessarily, the article A Splendid, Precarious Victory proves this point. The author Dan Peterson provides very gut wrenching statistics. It states, “in recent years, while the handgun ban was in place, the percentage committed with handguns has consistently been 70 percent or more” (Peterson 25). Clearly, this proves that the mainstream media, anti-gun groups and politicians have distorted the truth about just how hazardous gun control is. This disturbing information should be a wake up call to those who feel that gun control works. Finally, this proves that gun control is unproductive. These kinds of laws ...
Imagine... you are driving down the street to see your loving family. You stop at a gas station and a guy comes in. He has a bandana and bad intentions. All of a sudden, he loads a pistol and aims it towards you. What are your options? Try to visualize, a guy going to see his wife and kids, but when out of nowhere a person pulls you aside and then points a pistol at you. Over the course of years, ninety-three United States citizens are killed with guns. Due to these reasons, it seems it is necessary to get rid of guns because of the 21,175 suicides, 505 deaths due to accidental/ negligent discharge of a firearm. Guns should be banned for civilian use, due to too many deaths from unregistered users, misuse, and increased crime rate.
First of all, banning guns will not stop criminals from having them, and there are so many ways that these people can obtain guns. It is pretty plain and simple; if you ban guns from everyone crimes will still be committed. Gun control “…ignores the reality that even if guns disappear, bad people will find ways to do bad things” (Wil...
According to The Chicago Tribune “Close to 3,000 people have been shot in Chicago so far this year.”In 2016 chicago homicide rate was at an all time high, last year there have been reported 762 people died from gun violence,”3,550 shooting incidents, and 4,331 shooting victims.”Hundreds of people have died from gun violence every year and also a portion of the murder rate is made up of innocent people that have also died from a firearm violence. Also in the united states the number of fatalities from a firearm were “33,594” according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention.I believe we should ban the use of firearms because the number of people that die or get injured from a firearm keeps dangerously increasing each year.
Right now the government has limited firearm purchasing only to people who pass certain steps. Gun control has risen as a controversial subject in the United States today. Many say gun control or banning of all firearms will help protect and make our country a better place. Reasons many are wanting to ban firearms are that the 2nd amendment is out dated and unjustified in this date and time. Writer Eugene Robinson states that “farmers wrote of “arms,” thinking about muskets and single shot pistols. They could not have foreseen modern rifles or high-capacity magazines.” Many agree with Mr. Robinson saying that back when the constitution was written they couldn’t have understood what was going to come in the future. Citizens also believe people have no reason to fight against intruders that come in their home that’s what the authorities are for. If people what to defend themselves why waste the money and time on having police? In this day and age why have weapons why not cut out all firearms and just be one happy country, it’s that simple, but is it really that simple? (“Assault Weapons Must Be Banned in
Gun control does not only take guns away from criminals, gun control also limits law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves and their families when necessary. Those who argue for gun control usually state guns are a part of most violent crimes. However, this is not always true. While it is true that limiting gun ownership with laws could prevent individuals from possessing guns, it does not prevent people from illegally having or using guns. Those who carry guns legally are not the problem.
Take a look at the history of our country and the role guns have played in it. According to the second amendment gun ownership is perfectly legal and guaranteed as a right. There were and are good reasons for this, luckily they are still practiced today. Back in the day guns used to be for hunting and, on the occasion self defense. But when the colonists of this country had enough of British rule, they picked up there own personal guns and went to war and the British saw first hand how powerful the rough band of average American gun owners were. Our forefathers knew that the general population if armed would be key in winning the war. And it was.
We have had gun control laws in the past. We thought that they would help the crime and murder rate decrease, but that was not the case. The crime and murder rate stayed the same, so we took away the laws. 11% of killing is from stabbing in Chicago. It was proven that if we took away guns all together then the 11% would increase rapidly. We need guns for protection more than anything. The police cannot protect us in every situation. We need to be able to defend and protect ourselves. (_Esmarttips. "Gun Control Arguments, Pro & Con." Smart Tips. N.p., n.d. Web. 02 May 2017).
After the many shootings in schools over the past two years, many people believe guns should be made illegal for civillians to posses or purchase guns. While this may make it difficult for minors, drug addicts, and people with mental deficiencies to get hold on a gun, The Constitution allows all citizens to possess arms to defend themselves, their families', and their property. However if guns were made illegal, there would still be people who would smuggel guns. If a burgular were to smuggle a gun in to someone's home, that man or woman should be allowed to posses a gun to defend theirself.
In conclusion, enforcing gun laws would not be the best solution in reducing violence in the United States. Educating people and telling them to always contact police if they cannot handle a situation is always the best option. Guns provide protection and can save a family from a home break in or protect a store owner late at night from robbers who may threaten him or her for money. Not only are guns protected in the constitution, but they are also a part of the American tradition.
Should handgun ownership be banned? I don't believe so. You would think America would learn from examples from other countries. When you take away handguns the crime rate rises. American citizens need to know their rights, responsibilities and safety of owning a handgun.
The problem with guns is fairly obvious: they decrease the difficulty of killing or injuring a person. In Jeffrey A. Roth's Firearms and Violence (NIJ Research in Brief, February 1994), he points out the obvious dangers. About 60 percent of all murder victims in the United States in 1989 (about 12,000 people) were killed with firearms. Firearm attacks injured another 70,000 victims, some of whom were left permanently disabled. In 1985, the cost of shootings was an estimated $14 billion nationwide for medical care, long-term disability, and premature death. In robberies and assaults, victims are far more likely to die when the perpetrator is armed with a gun than when he or she has another weapon or is unarmed.
All handguns must be banned because they are the cause (s) of many deaths amongst the people of the world today. Gun violence result in fifty percent of today’s tragedies. Handguns causes too many deaths, the government need to make gun less accessible, and the law/law enforcement need to really enforce the laws they make.
If I could take a cause, it would be to stop the gun violence because I have seen a lot of people dying with guns. Guns kill a lot of people which makes this place a non safe place. If there were no guns in the world right now, then this world might have been a safer place than it is now. I would/can change it by removing guns from the world. I believe that removing guns is a good idea because without guns, people would stop killing each other and this world would be a safer place for a lot of people. I could also make a difference by telling people why guns are bad and tell them to stop using them. I get a little scared when I see a gun because I think of violence, death, hatred, and bloodshed when I see them. I think
