Perseverance Through Loss
You are guaranteed to lose a lot in life, but in order to stand firm, you have to persevere. In The Call of the Wild, Buck lost many friends, including his best friend John Thornton, due to death. In reality, like most people, my mom had to deal with the burden of death. In order to withstand his new environment, Buck had to stay strong and keep driving. Despite the fact that she didn’t lose most of her friends like Buck, her father lost a harsh battle with colon cancer. These situations are very diverse, but Buck and my mom both faced a harsh loss, and could not let that bring them down. Humans and dogs will both face death in life. Although they deal with it differently, they both have to persevere in order

One of Buck’s first friends on his new journey, Curly, was savagely attacked and killed by a crowd of extremely primitive dogs. Buck was puzzled because he was not familiar with these brutal ways quite yet. Since Buck was in the process of being sold, he could not be dismal for long as he was quickly shipped to the next captor. A couple of owners later, a dog on Buck’s sled team fell ill with cancer and was not getting any better. He was suffering for a while before the Scotch Half-Breed put Dave, the struggling sled dog, out of his misery. Buck and the rest of the team knew what was going on and understood. They had to persevere with their work to survive. After Buck was saved by John Thornton, they grew very close and became best friends. One day as Buck returned from hunting, he found John Thornton and his crew dead in the hands of the Yeehats. Buck was so angry that he attacked the Yeehats for many days in revenge. Buck grieved but had to move on in order to survive. He persevered during the tough time and returned to his primitive lifestyle as the alpha of a wolf pack. Buck faced many challenging losses but he knew that to survive in the wild he had to push

As a final point, literature informs humanity about these types of topics proven in The Book Thief with friendship, courage and perseverance. It teaches the readers that friendship relies on trust between two people and mentally help a person to live a continuing life. It also demonstrates that with courage, people will overcome that fear of doing things they have never thought of doing, but will face the fear of the outcome. Further, with perseverance, anyone can feel like they can accomplish the impossible and thrive to be successful. Perhaps, since we humans educate ourselves mostly from literature. It is the only piece of advice we can take and learn our valuable lessons from.
Buck undertook the mission of learning how to survive in the wild. Buck, a domesticated dog, was stolen and forced into the Klondike. He had to learn how to survive so he adapted by following the law of Club and Fang. He respected
It is often said that a dog is a man’s best friend. In Cormac McCarthy’s novel, The Crossing, a deep affection and fondness are established between man and animal. In a particular excerpt from the novel, Cormac illustrates the protagonist’s sorrow that was prompted from the wolf’s tragic death. As blood stiffens his trousers, the main character seeks to overcome the cold weather and fatigue with hopes of finding the perfect burial site for the wolf. McCarthy uses detailed descriptions and terminology in his novel, The Crossing, to convey the impact of the wolf’s death on the protagonist, a sad experience incorporated with religious allusions and made unique by the main character’s point of view.
Then over the course of the novel Buck transforms into a wild dog as a result of being thrown into the Klondike regions of Canada. While in the wild Buck abandons morals in order to survive because in the wild the strongest dogs rules and there is no right or wrong. Through Buck’s transformation the differences between the wilderness and civilization are highlighted. In civilization people abide by the rules and act based on their moral opinions. However in the wild the strongest man will survive while the weak will not thrive. Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest has a strong relevance in the book because Buck a young strong dog conquers and rules over the older dogs and the weaker
The Call of the Wild, by Jack London, is a classic piece of American literature. The novel follows the life of a dog named Buck as his world changes and in turn forces him to become an entirely new dog. Cruel circumstances require Buck to lose his carefree attitude and somewhat peaceful outlook on life. Love then enters his life and causes him to see life through new eyes. In the end, however, he must choose between the master he loves or the wildness he belongs in.
When Buck comes back to camp he finds the Yeehats have attacked and killed everyone and all the dogs. Buck then rages and kills the Yeehats with the realization afterwards that, “He had killed man the noblest game of all, and he had killed in the face of the law of club and fang”(London 102). Buck has mentally adapted to the way of life and to the laws he learned. Such as the law of club and fang, once a dog is down that is the end of him and that dogs and men are savages. Buck transforms from a pampered house dog with a lavish life to a wolf with a mind of a leader and a mind of a hunter. His physical adaptations help him survive in this life he has been given and help satisfy his new self.Buck becomes a leader and a true wolf through his adaptations. In the end of the novel Buck finds a wolf pack and shows dominance he then sits down and joins the pack howling. And Buck “ran with them, side by side with the wild brother, yelping as he ran”(London ).Buck becomes one with the wild and changes from a pampered house pet in the beginning of the story to this wolf leader in the end. Buck becomes a legend. When he first met the wolf pack some tried to fight him but Buck won and they ended up accepting them as one of their own, as a wolf. Without all of the mental and physical adaptations Buck had he would not have gained their respect and been accepted as wolf, as a great leader and become this great
The Call of the Wild, on the surface, is a story about Buck, a four- year old dog that is part Shepherd and part St. Bernard. More importantly, it is a naturalistic tale about the survival of the fittest in nature. Throughout the novel, Buck proves that he is fit and can endure the law of the club, the law of the fang, and the laws of nature.
In life, things will happen, and I can promise you that. Good or bad? There’s no telling, but in either one, you must always persevere. In The Call of the Wild, Buck must keep going and never lose hope. If he does, there is a slim window for survival. When you get badly hurt sometimes you just want to break down and cry, but in my dad’s position that wasn’t an option. While Buck is a dog and my dad is a human, they both can relate. Perseverance is a hard trait to have but in life threatening situations, it can go two ways. We can be broken, but nothing is immendable. We can always be fixed no matter what happens. Buck and my dad can prove that.
However, some unfriendly relationships emerge. Buck and Spitz, the alpha dog of the sled team, form a rivalry, and have multiple small fights. When the sled team arrives at the mouth of Takheena, a place where sled teams camp, a major fight occurs later that day. When Dub, another fellow sled dog, misses the catch for a rabbit, and it begins to run, the entire team, and other dogs, begin to chase it. Buck in the front, continues following in the rabbit’s heels, while Spitz takes a shortcut and makes it to the rabbit first, killing it. Buck gets mad and smashes into Spitz, and then a fight to the death begins, with Spitz trying to take Buck down. All the other dogs stand in a circle around them, waiting to devour the loser: “Buck did not cry out. He did not check himself, but drove in upon Spitz, shoulder to shoulder, so hard that he missed the throat...slashing Buck down the shoulder and leaping clear. Twice his teeth clipped together, like the steel jaws of a trap...” (38). Buck continues to be battered and almost loses, but regains himself and begins his fight to victory, overthrowing Spitz, and letting the rest of the dogs finish him: “He maneuvered for the final rush...Buck sprang in and out, but while he was in, shoulder had at last met shoulder. The dark circle became a dot on the moon flooded snow as Spitz disappeared from view. Buck stood and looked on, the successful

Survival is earned not given Jack London’s adventure fiction book The Call of the Wild has many amazing themes and ideas. Survival is earned not given. Survival is shown a lot throughout the book. Starting from the beginning of the book where Buck is sold and his new environment requires him to adapt to the new environment and living circumstances.
