The main characters from The Call of the Wild, The Hunger Games, and the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series all were on a mission. Buck from The Call of the Wild was trying to survive in the wild to so he could live his life. Katniss, from The Hunger Games, was trying to keep Peeta, her fake boyfriend, and herself alive. Percy, from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, was attempting to save his city, family, and his friends. However, all three were trying to survive to accomplish something thereafter.

his masters who owned him and fought to survive. As part of his survival, Buck learns to eat quickly because other dogs took his food and Buck was “not above taking what did not belong to him” (London 37). Buck showed he was willing to fight to the death, when he killed a rival dog, Spitz, “Buck stood … the successful champion, the dominant primordial beast ...”(London 67). In the end, Buck became the leader of a wolf pack. “The last tie was broken. Man and the claims of man no longer bound him” (London 168). Katniss undertook the mission of surviving the Hunger Games.
Katniss volunteered because her sister’s name was randomly chosen on the day of the reaping, the day each year when one known as a tribute is chosen for the Hunger Games. Prim was the minimum age of 12 when she was picked. The author, Suzanna Collins, states “… in District 12 … the word tribute is pretty much synonymous in the word corpse” (Collins 22). Katniss wanted to spare her sister’s life. “Prim … is the only person in the world I’m certain I love” (Collins 10). In the end Katniss not only survives the Hunger Games, but helps her teammate, Peeta Mellark, survive as well. Katniss was motivated to survive because she wanted to get home. “The train begins moving and we’re plunged into night until we clear the tunnel and I take my first free breath since the reaping … I begin to think of home. Of Prim and my mother … I begin transforming back into myself. Katniss Everdeen” (Collins …show more content…
370). Percy Jackson’s goal was to save the world.
He had multiple reasons for doing so: His family was threatened, some of his friends died at his enemy’s hand, and all the “gods”, including Percy’s father Poseidon, were faced with death. “The gods and Mount Olympus will still be destroyed, but it will be much messier. Much, much worse for you and your city. Either way, the Titans will rule" (Riordan 112). With the help of other demigods and Hades, the “god” of the underworld, Percy Jackson battled Kronos, a Titan. Even though Percy and his friends won, it came with a price. Rick Riordan, the author, writes “she [Selena] didn’t breathe again” (Riordan 155) and “The son of Nemesis fell through a fissure that went straight through the heart of the mountain—straight into open air” (Riordan 172). Percy Jackson stopped the Titans from completing their mission, therefore completing his: “We saved the world” (Riordan 196). Afterward, Percy was “heading back to Goode High for my sophomore year” (Riordan
199). In conclusion, all three characters completed their missions. Buck learned how to survive in the wild. Katniss survived the hunger games. Percy Jackson saved the world. All in all, they completed their mission to survive to thereafter do something.
Katniss didn't worry about Prim being chosen because her name was only on one piece of paper out of thousands of others. At the beginning of the reaping Effie Trinket said “Happy Hunger Games!. May the odds ever be in your favor” (19) sadly the odds were not in the favor of Katniss’ family. When Prim was chosen Katniss didn't know what to do.
Katniss volunteering for the hunger games to take her sister prim's place because prim is just a child in katniss’s eyes. The hunger game arena could Be identified with a maze. Peeta the other tribute for District 12 had fallen in love with Katniss before the reaping. Because of her uniqueness the crowd
In addition, at the end of the Games, Katniss and Peeta are left with the question of either killing each other or both killing themselves. Collins says that after everyone is killed, the decision of the victor of the Hunger Games lies between Katniss and Peeta, both tributes from District Twelve; even though either tribute would be willing to give up their life for the other, they both decide to kill themselves after becoming fed up with the Games (344-345). Peeta and Katniss are so emotionally unstable from everything they have experienced with the Games that they both choose to die with each other. Furthermore, if an adolescent manages to survive the harsh war environment, they must still continue to fight the mental effects of the
The Hunger Games was a good movie when it came out. This movie refers to a dystopia world in which there are 12 districts and a capitol who rules with an iron fist, in which the districts must provide a tribute to fight in an annual Hunger Game as a punishment for a past rebellion. Katniss Everdeen is a hunter from the 12th district, which Gale, her friend gives her tips on hunting. One day her sister, Primrose Everdeen, is chosen for the Hunger Games, and in order to save her, she volunteers instead to serve in the Games along with Peeta Mellark. During a TV interview, Peeta confesses her love for Katniss Everdeen, which causes the enragement of the latter; however, she later forgives him as he explains to her that it was only to gain sponsors. During the Hunger Games, she did not receive a lot of supplies except some medicine to cure a wound, but Districts 1 and 2 almost won the Game due to their training, and amount of supplies which Katniss destroys but cannot recover any of them. The Hunger Games was one of the best movies I ever watched because it has a little bit of everything and it captures the real-life survival game that we live on a daily basis.

After a few days of being at the camp he realizes what he has to do. His mother was taken by Hades to the underworld and Percy has to save her all while trying to prove to Zeus that he did not steal the Lighting bolt.
Then over the course of the novel Buck transforms into a wild dog as a result of being thrown into the Klondike regions of Canada. While in the wild Buck abandons morals in order to survive because in the wild the strongest dogs rules and there is no right or wrong. Through Buck’s transformation the differences between the wilderness and civilization are highlighted. In civilization people abide by the rules and act based on their moral opinions. However in the wild the strongest man will survive while the weak will not thrive. Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest has a strong relevance in the book because Buck a young strong dog conquers and rules over the older dogs and the weaker
A quick learner, he adapts well to the sled dog life. His heritage also helped him become accustomed to the harsh Klondike climate. Some difficulties such as sore feet and a voracious appetite set him back at the beginning, but he speedily overcomes them. Buck goes through several masters and many thousands of miles. Along the way, he learns “The Law of Club and Fang”: never challenge a human that has a weapon, and once a fighting dog falls to the ground, roaming huskies quickly destroy it.
Katniss is the main character in the novel, The Hunger Games. The author of this book is Suzanna Collins. Katniss is a 16 year old who has been chosen with 23 other tributes. In my class we have studied themes and key ideas such as Power of the Capitol, Competition against other tributes and Sacrifice for what Katniss acts and does in the Hunger Games. There are many themes but I have chosen these 3 because they show the most emotions and power.
There are many other characters in the story the story, but there are a couple special one. Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena. So you can imagine she was one smart cookie. Percy’s father is Poseidon, god of the sea. Athena and Poseidon didn’t really get along. Annabeth and Percy have something in common: both have family issues and terrible step-parents. Her dad is a human, a professor at West Point who teaches American History. Annabeth is anger at his for rejecting her at a young
This man cares more about the wants and needs of the people around him then his own. Percy is brave in the toughest of situations, and stands up for what is right. Percy Jackson has even saved the world twice, by leading armies he organised on his own.
The movie The Hunger Games, originally based on a book by Suzanne Collins, is about a place called Panem, which is ruled by the Capitol and has 12 districts within it. These 12 districts are separated founded on their economic statuses, meaning the higher the district, the more impoverished the residents are. There are 2 tributes that are chosen to participate, forcibly, in The Hunger Games each year. Each competitor is instructed to eliminate one another in order to survive and come out on top. There is only one tribute allowed to come out of the arena alive. Katniss lives in District 12, which is the most impoverished district of them all, and she volunteers as tribute in “the Reaping” when her sister is chosen to participate. She and the other tribute from her district, Peeta, make it into the arena with the hopes that one of them comes out the winner and above all else, alive (Ross, 2012). I will refrain from going any further just in case you have not read the book or have not seen the movie. In terms of soci...

Over the course of this novel, Percy must embark on a quest to clear his name, much like Hercules had to endure his Twelve Labors. These Twelve Labors would prove to be a recurring theme for Percy throughout the entirety of his five-part series. While Hercules abandoned his quest with Jason for the Golden Fleece, Percy did not, and succeeded where the ancient hero had failed. Hercules was also directly referenced in Titan’s Curse in a flashback by Percy’s new friend and Hesperide Zoe, a goddess entrusted with protecting Hera’s apples which Hercules had stolen. Over the long chain of events throughout the entire series, Percy and his friends encountered and battled numerous monsters that Hercules had originally slain in his Twelve Labors, such as Cerberus, a hydra, the Nemean Lion, the Erymanthian Boar, and cleaning the Aegean stables, home to flesh-eating horses.
Buck, along with other dogs, was purchased by Francois and Perrault, dispatchers for the Canadian government, and transported by ship to Alaska. Buck soon came to respect his French Canadian masters. But life among the dogs was savage; no law existed but that of fang and force.
