If an individual can not communicate, relationships do not grow strong and then it begins to unravel without the communication. The key to a successful marriage is communication, being honest with each other, and acknowledging the power of each other words.

The title of chapter one is called Introduction to Interpersonal communication. This chapter is mainly talking about interpersonal communication among materials that are very important to us such as interpersonal communication to our life, interpersonal communication and social media and interpersonal communication principles. They are many more that was talked about in the chapter put those three were the main thing that stood out to me. In this discussion paper, I am going to talk about the things that grab my attention while looking over my notes and by looking over my chapter. Those materials are the interpersonal communication to our life, interpersonal communication and social media and interpersonal communication competence.
In every society nonverbal communication is one of the most powerful tools that a person can use to interpret the message that is being delivered. Even though verbal communication is fairly straightforward, nonverbal communication allows others to sense the true emotions of the person that is expressing them. For example even though a person may say that they are not irritated, their usage of voice may display otherwise. Nonverbal communication not only reveals hidden messages, but it also complements, substitutes, and exaggerates verbal communication.
The couple has lacked communication as well as Mrs. Davis has felt unheard. Therefore, helping the couple in communication will began to reshape and reform new clear boundaries within the spousal subsystem and parental subsystem. Helping my client’s communicate in a way that brings value to each other will strengthen the couple’s love for each other which will build hope (Worthington, 2005). In assisting the Davis’s in communication I would ask them to complete invention 10-5 exercise the will help them discern their personal love language. A love language is how each person in a relationship expresses their love through words and actions (Worthington, 2005).
There are all different types of communication that people will use through out their life. The most important type of communication is interpersonal communication. Interpersonal communication differs from other forms of communication in that there are few participants involved, the participants are in close proximity to each other, there are many sensory channels used, and feedback is immediate. Interpersonal communication is the information received from listening to what someone else is saying. Interpersonal communication always uses intonation, diction and enunciation to give meaning to information. Intonation, diction and enunciation sometimes give more meaning to what is being said than the actual words themselves. In the following paragraphs, I will explain to the reader the importance of interpersonal communication in business.
For a relationship to stay successful overtime, the couple should be able to communicate with each other. Having the ability to talk to your significant other about problems that are occurring in your life or even if it's just for a simple advise, you should always be able to talk to them. For example, in Hemingway's, "Hills Like Elephants", the husband and wife talk about having an abortion and the wife just tells him at one point to be quite because she did not want to hear him. (Hemingway, 2004, p. 232) That shows that the couple is struggling in communication, that one partner does not wish to hear her husbands opinion and views on the matter not just because she is getting an abortion to make him happy; but because he did not seem to care as much of her views and opinions on the topic.
As children we grow to learn, you must love yourself before loving someone else. In order to love yourself, you must understand the definition of self- love. “Self- love: Regard for one’s own well- being and happiness.” Can you sincerely claim it? As we grow older and supposedly wiser, as young woman finding comfort in a man there often times lay uncertainties. Within marriage there are promised commitment to not only someone else, but to yourself. Interesting fact about life, the tables always turn. Suddenly when you agree to engage in marriage, it becomes if you love someone else you must be able to place him or her before yourself. Where is the balance? Once married, we must reflect on our hopes and dreams, are we expected to be accommodating life long goals?
It is vital that individual differences are ironed out through open discussion by identifying and accommodating them in a mutually exclusive interpersonal communication. Personal communication is the foundation of resolving individual differences, which go a long way to produce harmony, respect and love into the relationship. The exchange of information, feelings, and meaning through verbal and non-verbal messages appreciate make marriage last till eternity.
Communication is important in relationships as it allows us to share interests, aspirations and concerns, to support each other, to organize our lives and make decisions. Communication is not only verbal, listening is a huge part of effective communication. It’s important to understand your partner’s form of communicating and valuing their opinion. The purpose of this paper is not to teach you, or to show you how interpersonal communication is essential to everyday life at home or work. But, I am going to do my best to at least show you how essential communication skills are in all areas of life by using me as the example. My plan is to focus on some of the elements of interpersonal communication that we have been touching on this semester.
