The organization structure in the Criminal Justice Field consists of six basic elements as in any career field. Moreover, the six essential elements consist according to Giblin “goals and objectives, division of labor, hierarchy of authority, command and control, accountability, and communication” (Giblin, 2014, pp.148). Furthermore, the first element is goal and objectives. This first element purpose is to function as a guide to create plans, tactics, assignments, policies, instructions, and regulations (Giblin, 2014, pp.148). Therefore, the goals and objective must be clear and consistent in order to be accomplished (Giblin, 2014, pp.148). The goal must be concise in order to be complete understood. In addition, the goal purpose is to maintain experience, reduce quandary, and to alter the organizational change (Giblin, 2014, pp.149). On the other hand, the objective purpose is used to create authority, accountability, and to handle complicated tasks (Giblin, 2014, pp.149). Foremost, if the objective and goal are not clearly stated it could caused higher level of discretion and the failure of the goals and objective (Giblin, 2014, --.149). Moreover, the second element is division of labor. The division of labor is divided in to three main groups:
The human service model strives to integrate employees goals into organizational goals. However, it has such a reliance upon the most committed employees. These employees, therefore, must to accomplish job tasks and feel as though fulfilled in their distinctive roles within the criminal justice organizations. This model creates a much less centralized rules and bureaucracy as the supervisors and employees become part of a team governed by an agreement of purpose. Such agreement of purpose may appear to be blurred in terms of governance within the organization since it is in human nature to not wanting to share anything of values, especially money and power. Criminal justice organizations have multiple and sometimes conflicting goals. Those
Criminal Justice is a well-coordinated system, it has a number of institutions and practices. All of these are established by the government. Criminal Justice has a huge purpose in society, it maintain order in the society, deter and mitigate crime, and its consequences, and to pose different kinds of penalties on people, who violate the law of a country or state. APA Style was adapted and put into practice in 1929. The APA style is used in many countries in order to ease the process of reading. It made communities and individuals understand and make positive decisions, when it comes to matters concerning justice at all levels.
Once chief Robin Richardson was in command she made the decision to change the organizational structure within the police department. MPD chief Richardson made the decision the change the police department 's centralized organization structure to a more decentralized structure that relies on employees to communicate information to make decisions and recommend changes” ( Textbook, Chapter 10). MPD chief Richardson decisions to change the “organizational structure was to accommodate the dramatic shift in performance culture”( Textbook Chapter). MPD chief Richardson felt that the traditional functional organization structure under the vertical hierarchy has lost sight of MPD organization mission. Chief Richardson wanted to create an organizational structure that provides certain levels of autonomy, that allows employees to make decisions based on their individuals discretions. MPD chief Robin Richardson considered a “divisional organization a design structure that groups processes and jobs based on clearly defined market segments or geography”( Textbook Chapter 10). Chief Richardson considered “divisional organization structure that allows decision making to take place at the divisional level by managers, and differences of opinion would be resolved without depending on the chief. Chief Richardson felt that this design was leaning more toward what she visualized for the MPD: a centralized, horizontal organization” (Textbook chapter 10). According to the text, chief Robin Richardson “finally decision was to create a matrix organization, a design structure that facilitates horizontal integration and collaboration. A matrix model combines elements of both the functional and the divisional organizations, has dual lines of authority, and is designed to encourage the sharing of information. Robin felt that by using this model, the reporting line would shift
For the purpose of this paper, the Houston Police Department’s organizational structure will be used to illustrate the chain of command. The jail operations are designated to Strategic Operations as you can see from the diagram below, and it is overseen by the executive assistant chief, assistant chief and captain. The captain over jail operations is responsible for all three shifts at the city jail, and he assigns three lieutenants to supervise each shift (days, evenings, and nights). Within Houston’s jail facility, there are both classified officers and civilians performing various assignments and tasks. The immediate concern that was brought to attention pertains to a sexual misconduct allegation from a female inmate against a correctional
Organization is the most important part of any business. In the business of criminal justice, organization is of the highest importance. Every day, hour, and minute must be accounted for, and at the same time all bases must be covered. This brings up a problem when trying to run a precinct that employs a lot of police officers. The Chicago Police Department is the principal law enforcement agency of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States, under the jurisdiction of the Mayor of Chicago. It is the second largest local law enforcement agency in the United States after the New York City Police Department. Chicago’s community policing effort is more extensive and organized than other jurisdictions.
You can’t have one without the other. The term “consensus model” describes this relationship. The consensus model supports the idea that all three groups should work together to achieve justice. Law enforcement is the first piece of the criminal justice system, and in my opinion, the most important. Law enforcement includes uniformed officers, investigators, and support personnel.
The Criminal Justice System and its agencies encounter challenges while trying to perform their daily activities. The system deals with laws involving criminal behaviour. It dwells on three major agencies: the police, courts, and the corrections. Each agency has its own specific and important roles to contribute to society. This paper will explain both the roles and challenges each agency unfortunately battles.
“Organizations pursue goals, but those are complex, multiple, and often conflicting” (Criminal Justice Organizations 5). In the Criminal Justice System in America, there are several different organizations that are in existence; all are different, these organizations do not have the exact same goals, and with all of these differing organizations there is a slight divergence in structure where some may be mechanistically based (bureaucratic/hierarchical) or organically based (professional/horizontal), size – some may be bigger or smaller, and so on and so forth. But yet all of them need to communicate (whether inter-organization, or with other organizations).
This essay will discuss the role of the criminal justice professional in serving both individual and societal needs. It will identify and describe at least three individual needs and three societal needs, in addition to explaining the role of the criminal justice professional in serving each of these needs. Illustrative examples will be provided for support.
The Criminal Justice System can be very rewarding because it deters crime, protects and minimize recidivism all while treating all Americans equally under the law (Department of Justice, 2013). The Criminal Justice System’s Administration is composed of three system components which collectively functions the Criminal Justice System if effectively enforced and monitored (The Criminal Justice System, 2008). The Criminal Justice Administration is composed of Police Officers, Public Defenders and other Legal occupant whose main job is to protect, serve and rehabilitate (The Criminal Justice System, 2008). When the Administration’s occupants become involved in corruption they become a conflict of interest. Conflicting Rewards can negatively impact the Criminal Justice Administration and the people it was created to serve when the primary goal becomes undesirable (Kirby, 2016).

Criminal Justice is a legal framework incorporating the applications of the law with various governmental entities to ensure lawful policies and procedures are adhered to and impose a penalty when such laws are violated. Organizational structure within an organization is a critical component of the day to day operations of a business. An organization benefits from organizational structure as a result of all it encompasses. It is used to define how tasks are divided, grouped and coordinated. Six elements should be addressed during the design of the organization’s structure: work specialization, departmentalization, chain of command, spans of control, centralization and decentralization. These components are a direct reflection of the organization’s culture, power and politics.
