I decide to go back to school so I further my education in the criminal justice field. I also decide to go school because I will be the first one in my family to go and graduate collage. So as you could see this would make my family very proud. My ultimate goal for this degree is to help me get out of the correctional officer side of the field and become a patrol officer. Many police departments would like for the officers to have at least a two year college degree. So with the help of the Bethel staff and my class mates I will be able to accomplish my goals.
The criminal justice field is made up of many facets. The court system includes many professions which include lawyers, judges, police officers and polygraph examiners. The federal justice system has numerous professions as well. Two highly recognizable organizations in the government criminal justice system are the CIA and the FBI. Two careers of interest worth future investigation are a polygraph examiner and a special agent in the FBI.
The individuals within our society have allowed we the people to assess and measure the level of focus and implementation of our justice system to remedy the modern day crime which conflict with the very existence of our social order. Enlightening us to the devices that will further, establish the order of our society, resides in our ability to observe the Individual’s rights for public order.
Within the Criminal Justice System there is diverse career opportunities to choose from. The career I am interested in being is a Criminal Profiler with the FBI National Center for Analysis of Violent Crime. I am interested in this job because it seems to be an intense job to do. A criminal profiler's job is to create a psychological profile of a criminal suspect. Creating one of these profiles can be used to help catch the suspect. This is done by examining evidence from the crime, interviewing witnesses and victims, and analyzing crime scenes. Information obtained from these investigations can then be used to help the profiler determine a pattern of criminal behavior. Most of the time the information that was collected can be used to find out more about the suspect.
This goal is important to me because it can help me to become a police officer, be more prepared in my career and it can help me to get more money and advance to higher positions within that career. When I had to do my career interview I asked the detective that I was interviewing if it was necessary to have a degree to be a police officer and she said most of the people how have degrees do get more money on their paychecks and that if they were to try for a promotion having a degree can help but it wouldn’t really do much else. After that interview, I knew that I wouldn’t technically need a degree but I decided that I would still get it because I felt that it would help me to learn more about that career field and the laws that they don’t teach in the police academy. This goal has a lot to do with my strengths especially futuristic, adaptability and learner. This ties to futuristic because the decision to college was made in order to have better chances in the future, it ties to adaptability because I would have to adapt to the different challenges I can face when I go to college like the different teachers, classes, and workloads of each semester, and it ties to learner because since I love to learn new things going to college opens opportunities to learn about anything I wanted and take
After graduation, I plan on going to Mount St. Mary’s University and majoring in psychology and criminal justice. After receiving my four year degree, I plan on joining the law enforcement academy, which will take 3-5 months depending on the academy. Once becoming an officer, my goal is to climb the ladder and become a homicide detective. After numerous
Applying to a Ph.D. program is a dream come true for me. Not knowing anyone in my family getting a college degree motivated me to achieve an academic degree from a university. My experience in my undergraduate years and masters program has been a great journey, but I am hungry for much more. As a criminology and criminal Justice major I feel a great need to get a graduate level education to become a figure in Criminology that can make a positive impact in our society and the world.
Hebert Session 1. JournalI’m pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. I became interested in this career path when I was in middle school. I think helping people do what is right and helping them in times of need are the reasons I will really enjoy being in the criminal justice profession. I also think that this profession needs people with diverse backgrounds and points of views. Society can be vastly diversified and understanding all types within a society is difficult, so the need for the criminal justice system to employ knowledgeable people would require diversification of social backgrounds. I would like to share with society that police officers are good and fair people. They exist to help society and they are understanding and knowledgeable
There are many different theories as to how many core components the criminal justice system is made up of. As I did my own research I found that there are 5 core components of the criminal justice system. First there is law enforcement which most know as police officers and or sheriffs. Anyone employed with law enforcement usually is responsible for taking reports for crimes that occur in their assigned area. Officers assist in investigating crimes and help to bring together and look after the evidence that is collected. Law enforcement have the authority to arrest offenders, and they also have a responsibility of providing a testimony during the court process.
Traditionally, the criminal law process, in its quest for a 'fair' and 'just' trial, at almost every stage, accords certain safeguards to, and confers certain fights and privileges on, those suspect/accused of crime. Administration of penal justice, which is visibly dominated by the 'humanitarian and therapeutic approach' to criminality also resorts to every possible 'measure' within its reach to 'reform' and 'treat' a convict for his better 'reformation' and 're-socialisation' and thereby to 're-assimilate' him in the social mainstream.
My plan in life is to become a Police Officer. Not only would that give me the opportunity to help other people but becoming a Police Officer also gives me the opportunity to follow in my Uncles footsteps and do something that I have wanted to do my whole life. I have always wanted to make a difference in the world, and this gives me the chance. Performing justice the right way and making sure that the laws of the government are obeyed is the job that I want to pursue. Being a Police Officer is a challenging job but also very rewarding. There would be a number of skills I would need to learn, not to mention that every day on the job would be a learning experience itself. Every single day that I would go to work, I would potentially be saving someone’s life. Stopping a speeder, arresting a criminal, preventing harmful attempts, they are things that would save someone’s life. Even if my actions were not as simple as that, for example, if I were to witness an accident or arrive onto the scene of one, just being there gives me the opportunity to take preventative measures. When I become a Police Officer, it woul...
When I first enrolled here at State University, I never thought I would ever be in the position to graduate. Finishing college was a huge goal growing up but it was also my biggest fear. But after three and a half years of dedication I plan to get my degree in the fall. Getting this far in college was not easy, it took encouragement from family, dedication, and assistance from others to reach this position.
Law enforcement agencies have a duty to protect and serve their communities. Many agencies have a set amount of goals and objectives that they try to accomplish. Setting these goals allows them to improve their work as law enforcement agencies and minimize the rate of crime.
2. The institution I’d like to pick is my work environment (Community day hab center in Westbrook). My job has me bring my mentally disabled clients all around the southern maine community, so I see a lot of cops and people from different towns and cities. Based on my experience with observing and learning about crime, the most apparent and influential type of social control I witness is escalation. I’ve seen certain people get very insulted when a cop comes to the door and starts asking questions. People don’t even seem to be aware that they got a call from possibly a distressed neighbor and it’s the officer’s job to come check out the situation. Instead of calmly explaining why the house smells like weed or why the wife is crying, sometimes
As police officer you can stop someone and pat them down this is called a stop and frisk or a terry stop. But you can’t just stop and frisk anyone you want, you have to have reasonable suspicion of involvement in criminal activity. The reason this comes up as a police issue is for two reasons:
I became interested in criminology as a field of study at a very young age. Growing up in a neighborhood, in which there were a number of law enforcement officers living there, influenced me in a positive way. I think seeing the way the officers carried themselves and the respect that people showed them in return, sparked an interest in me and made me want to carry myself in a similar manner. While growing up, my mom had issues with drug addiction and one officer in particular stood out to me because he provided my dad with advice on what to do to get her the treatment she needed. My mother’s drug use was a major issue because my dad works for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and as part of his job he is not allowed
