My future career goal is to be either a homicide detective or a criminal profiler. Now, you are probably thinking that I don’t need a higher education that I just need to go into the police academy and work my way up the chain, you are wrong. In order to be a criminal profiler I need to get a four year degree in psychology, criminal justice, or forensics. It is also recommended to get a masters in forensic psychology, or criminology after spending 7-15 years as a detective, police officer, or investigator.
After graduation, I plan on going to Mount St. Mary’s University and majoring in psychology and criminal justice. After receiving my four year degree, I plan on joining the law enforcement academy, which will take 3-5 months depending on the academy. Once becoming an officer, my goal is to climb the ladder and become a homicide detective. After numerous

years of experience, I will apply to be a FBI criminal profiler and possibly join the FBI academy. The Behavior Analysis Unit (BAU) is very hard to get into, so if I do not make it, I will be fine with where I am. College is really going to help me get to where I want to be. Not only do I need the four year degree and possibly a masters, but also the FBI and CIA recruit out of Mount St. Mary’s University. If I am fortunate, maybe I can get recruited. The Mount has a great criminal justice program, which is why The FBI recruit from there. Also, there is an FBI headquarters in Quantico, Virginia, which is about two hours away. The schooling I will get from Mount St. Mary’s will help me stand out from everyone else, and hopefully it will help me get into the FBI. At Mount St. Mary’s University I plan to join their track team. All four years of high school, I have run track and I truly want to run in college. The head coach at The Mount says that there is a spot on the team for me if I want it. Being on the track team will help me for when I go into the academy. It will help me stay in shape for when I do the physical portion of the application and for when I enter the academy. Not only will I be on the track team, but I will also help with youth ministry.
There is a middle school and a high school youth group associated with The Mount. I plan on volunteering and helping run them. This will help me grow in my faith but also to keep my sanity. Between all of the strain of college, track, work, and thinking about my career, this will help me keep a level head and keep me from losing my mind. Also, it will be nice going back to the youth group, it will make me feel nostalgic.
With all of the activities I participate in, I have never had time for a job, but I have always wanted to get a one. Unless you count volunteering at events as work experience. Next year, my plan is to get a campus job to get some experience. I will have to take orders from a higher authority, that is not a teacher or parent, and this will help me when I become a police officer. I am excited for what life has in store for me, and for what I will become. Every decision I make has an impact on my life and career, that is why I am keeping my nose clean and only participating in activities that will help
me.
I have always been interested in the criminal justice field, I was always watching the ID channel on tv and I became very interested in the way they solve these crimes and the crimes that actually occur. When I first started talking to my parents about wanting to go into the criminal justice field I had only wanted to become a detective.

Within the Criminal Justice System there is diverse career opportunities to choose from. The career I am interested in being is a Criminal Profiler with the FBI National Center for Analysis of Violent Crime. I am interested in this job because it seems to be an intense job to do. A criminal profiler's job is to create a psychological profile of a criminal suspect. Creating one of these profiles can be used to help catch the suspect. This is done by examining evidence from the crime, interviewing witnesses and victims, and analyzing crime scenes. Information obtained from these investigations can then be used to help the profiler determine a pattern of criminal behavior. Most of the time the information that was collected can be used to find out more about the suspect.
Before you can enter the field of becoming a homicide detective you must first become a police officer and serve on the force for a minimum of 3 years. You must be 21 and be able to pass a drug and background test and be in good physical health. You will then go through all the normal physical training in the academy and you must have your high school diploma to enter that. It is also very important that you have good communication skills and a good attitude, and you can handle your anger. Once you have became and served as an officer you will need to make sure to be the best that you can be and be good with details and things along that line, you then can have the chance to be promoted in most departments to become a detective. The most common way to get into this field is through becoming a police officer first, and this is the way I will choose to go, it will give me more experience and a feel with how people are on the streets and what it will be like before having to become more in detail about my work and trying to solve cases about
I chose to research the profession of a homicide detective. This profession interests me because I find solving a puzzle satisfying, by picking up the pieces (evidence) and fitting them together I can solve the mystery of the homicide. This of course is something I will have to work toward, as I cannot become one right out of the gate. First I will have to be a police officer. I have to be a police officer first because I need to gain experience in the criminal justice world and with victims/ suspects. Depending on the town I choose to pursue my career in I could have to start as a patrol officer or at a jail. I am doing things now to try and set myself apart from other candidates so if the time does ever come for a promotion I can be one step
Criminal justice is one of the most important majors one can study due to the necessity to keep the streets safe and clean. From street cops, to state troopers all the way to criminal psychologists the criminal justice system is a very important part of modern society as it keeps us safe from murders, rapists and various other criminals. The street cops are the ones that are out on our streets protecting every citizen. It can be as simple as writing a parking ticket on a car that is illegally parked, to arresting murderers and rapist in a quiet neighborhood in the suburbs. The cops are the ones that are keeping our streets more safe for families everywhere. The main thing I want to learn about Criminal Justice is where I can go with my degree. By studying criminal justice I would like to be able to pursue my dreams of becoming a Drug enforcement agent so that I can help make neighborhoods safe and take bad people off the public streets.
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID), and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) are a few other agencies that also employ criminal profilers. Although there are other employers that hire criminal profilers, the FBI is the most prominent. In order to be considered as a potential member of these programs, having an advanced degree in behavioral or forensic science is recommended. However, the most important qualification is an agent’s overall experience as an investigator of violent crimes. John Douglas, a famous FBI profiler, believes that “degrees and academic knowledge [are] not nearly as important as experience and certain subjective qualities” (Muller 250).
The education level chosen depends on what kind of forensic job you are interested in and what salary you are going for. Most entry-level forensic positions require a bachelor’s degree in forensic or natural science (see Anne 1996). Undergraduate programs consist of toxicology, biochemistry, and criminal justice classes. The American Academy of Forensic Sciences also recommends English classes. This is because forensic scientists need very honed written and oral communication capabilities to write detailed reports and testify to physical evidence in court.
In order to pursue my dream as a Forensic Psychologists I am aware that I have to put in a lot of effort and determination in to school. There are various aspects to pursuing my career such as getting good grades, volunteering in police departments, networking, and doing an immense amount of research on my field. The career I chose requires a lot of my time not only as a student but as an adult. What I mean by this is that from now on, my time is devoted in to acquiring skills and changing my persona in order to be better qualified for the my job. Throughout this road map I will talk about what is a Forensic Psychologist, what are the requirements, skills necessary, what I could do with this degree, the personality types that are best suited for this job, and what are the prospects of moving up.
I am hoping that I can get a minor in this field. To be quite honest, I have seen a lot of Law & Order episodes, and that is where my interest in this came about. I do not know if I want a full career in this field, that is why I plan on getting a minor or double major. But just all the stuff about it is another thing that interests me. Such as dealing with the people who are kind of crazy and also getting to help people. “Criminal justice graduates are ready for careers in law enforcement, court administration, victim services, and corrections, and many use the degree to advance into law school and graduate programs.” By getting this minor or double major, it gives me a chance for more job opportunities. Either way I decide though if I did end up choosing that I wanted a career in it, I would be able to get a job in it. With having a degree in Psychology as well as a minor in Criminal Justice, it could open so many more doors for me. By having both of those it not only gives me the chance at a job in Psychology. But if I decide that I would want to pursue a job in Criminal Justice I will be able to depending on how high up of a job I
All college students should partake in career exploration project because it gives structure and direction. The result from an assessment identifies and prioritizes which careers will best suit an individual person or student. Five years after graduation I plan to obtain a master's degree in law enforcement. Right now I'am really not sure what I really want to truly do for the rest of my life. The only thing I like doing is finding clues and figuring out the criminal in mystery books.
I was only seventeen when I started working. I lived in a very small city that I downtown area full of different stores. During the summer times, most of the stores downtown would post job listings looking for young individuals who wanted to work during the summer season. I decided that I wanted to gain some work experience and decided to apply in one of the stores. The store I worked in was called Kid City; it was a clothing store for children. I enjoyed the job I had in the beginning; all I did was open up boxes and placed the clothes in the racks so the store associates could hang them up on the store racks. I enjoyed the job because I did not have to deal with the customers that came into the store. However, I was then moved to the front of the store to
