During the test there are many tactics that you can try. For example, one method is starting at the back of the paper with the hard questions and working your way back to the easiest questions, that way your brain does not get tired. Also try and work out how much time you have for each question. If you have an hour and a quarter long test and seventy-five questions then you get a minute per question (obviously some questions would take longer to work out and some less, but try to roughly stick to your guild line). For every hard question, take notes. Do not rely on yourself to remember what you have worked out, as well as that, you might work out the answer, get distracted, and have to work it out again, that wastes time especially if it is a hard question. One of my studying techniques is to have one of my family members verbally assess me on the topic of examination based on information in my textbook for the given subject. This compares to what I have just learned because I sometimes alter the location of study during these sessions, such as one time in the dining room and one time in another room of the house. However, I would always stay on one subject for a long time, which may not have been a very good idea. Another studying technique that I used to have was studying the night before or the morning of the exam because I thought (with the influence of a girl from my fifth grade class) that the information would be easy to retain since it was so recently reviewed. First, it is important to look at the amount of time each habit takes on average. Looking in a long-term viewpoint, studying periodically takes much more time than cramming. Although it may seem as if the opposite is true, cramming is fairly speedy. Before a test, a student may spend two or three hours studying for a history exam. A student who decides to study periodically may study for thirty minutes each night starting two weeks before the exam takes place. That adds up to seven hours, more than double the time it takes to cram for the test! I seem to learn better when I constantly read over the material I am studying. This allows the material to constantly be running in my mind. I am a person who will read or hear something and it usually sticks with me. I really haven 't had to study for long periods of time, because I usually remember the topic of what were being tested on pretty easily. I have also learned that I am more of a hands on person. I can learn things very quickly by putting them into action. Somehow that makes it click in my mind and helps me learn it. Mainly the study habits I can improve on is procrastination. NZTC (2015) states that stress is one of the biggest factor that can affect a student’s study this is due to the pressure of the high demand of their time. Being stressed affects you mentally, socially and physically and have many negative side effects a few of these are exhaustion, headaches, sleeplessness and loss of appetite. Stress isn’t good for your health or well-being, this is why it is important to identify any causes of stress and to have strategies that will help manage stress. Going to the doctor for advice, searching the internet and seeking help from student support are some of the strategies that can help you deal with stress. (NZTC, 2015) There are many different steps that you can use to help reduce stress the only problem is finding the right ones for you. One of those steps that I will be using, is to break down your work load into smaller tasks that are manageable and can be prioritized easily. Another of the steps could be to use physical activities to help work off stress, or I could use yoga and breathing exercises to help control stress and helps you to relax. The article titled 'Teaching Responsibility'; deals with the issue of student preparedness after high school. The article brings up the recent case of Jonathan Govias who is suing his private high school stating that the school did not prepare him for university. The article goes on to give two examples, one in Virginia and one in Ontario of how these types of problems are being dealt with. The editor agrees s that the school system should be held more responsible for its graduates, but makes it clear that lawyers only complicate matters. I believe that Jonathan Govias' case should be heard in a court of law due to the fact that schools have a certain responsibility and if it is not met then something needs to be done about it. I am in total disagreement with the Ontario's school plan to get rid of this problem and am a total fan of the Virginia pilot project, because unlike the Ontario plan they are actually looking to help the students and not their own pockets.
College students must find time in their busy schedules to study. In order to keep up they must do daily assignments. Reading every night helps to prepare for the exams. Taking notes in class and out of class are also necessary. Students also have exams at the end of the semester that require hours of studying. Waiting until the last minute and then cramming it all in is often a final resort. Many students who have kept up just go over and recall the information. All students must find time to study in order to pass.
I will make and keep a regular study schedule. Through the time schedule, I can properly allocate my time. Study is important, but we should also allow ourselves to have some time for rest and relaxation. Next, study at the right place is also an important method to study. The right place is useless without the right surrounding conditions. For me, I will choose the same place to study everyday. For example, library is a good choice to study, it was also a place that with zero distractions. When you are studying, you should keep away from all the distractions, such as music, television, movies, friends, mobile phone and so on.
