Human civilization has many watersheds and these watersheds have given direction to the evolution of human progress/civilization. One of such watersheds was Industrial Revolution of 17th century, which yielded not only new socio-political-economic system, but also new notions, precepts and perspectives. If we study the progress of human civilization, the imprints of Industrial Revolution on the evolution of human civilization become so evident. Invention of internet; social scientists and historians agree is the most recent and apparent watershed, which is not only influencing the progress of human civilization, but also shaping it. As the reach and popularity of social media augmented, so did social media’s role and its use. There were many reasons, which increased the relevance of social media, which included its reach; its inexpensiveness and user friendly interface. Think of the time when people across the globe were not linked to each other. Landline phones were the only technology reaching across borders. But with evolution of internet and social media’s role; things have completely changed. Society is getting closer through social media, where people from every field of life with different opinions interact with each other and share thoughts, ideas and information. It is observed that sometimes a news story even before reaching electronic media, reaches in the world of social media. Business world id also getting more benefits from use of social media. There are so many social media platforms, but Facebook is considered one of the most popular in all of them
As per the criterion, which claims that inaccurate information or flawed information is zero information, which is also a true criterion. They people are less informed than before and social media has not helped in expanding human intellect or in maturing of political thought process. Therefore, based on this criterion and claim, we can say that people of modern world, who have access to immense data and information, are less informed and therefore not able to take accurate and precise decisions. But in my opinion, such argument cannot be generalized to whole social media world. The revolutions and benefits which social media has brought to the world cannot be ignored. Certainly, issues are there, but these issues are not unsolvable. New research and studies will help social media to deal with negative issues to make it more informative, authentic and
