Society has over time, developed many means of communication starting with the word of mouth to writing letters, the telephone, and now the internet. The internet has developed its own form of communication, which is a social network. Social networks have created a way for people across the world to communicate with each other at the same time, all in one place, thus making it the internet the reason behind the revolution known as Social Network.
Just as anything else, social networks were not born in a day, it slowly developed into what is known in today’s society. In the 70’s, Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs) and Usernets were prime communication. BBS is considered the first site that allowed internet users to interact with each other. However, users would have to use a dial-up connection and only one at a time could access the BBS. While Usernets were slightly different. This was a system that allowed users to post articles to newsgroups. Into the 80’s Online Services were created, such as CompuServe, Prodigy and the well-known AOL. These sites simply made the internet “universally accessible in the United States.” Following online services in the late 80’s came Instant Messaging and Chat systems such as Internet Relay Chat, which allowed for sharing links and files. In 1997 the “first modern social network” Six Degrees was created. This site allowed users to build profiles, and become “friends” with other users. In conclusion Twitter has a lot of dramatic history such as the hash tag wasn’t really a thing the company wanted to start which is pretty embarrassing considering how many people use it. But it can be a wonderful piece of entertainment in a person’s life. It provides you with the latest updates on news shows you what is currently trending and provides you with an easy retreat from the world. But is this really how you would like to spend your free time. On a phone just scrolling through the news feed to see whatever catches your eye, wow your cool. Twitter may seem to benefit you but it’s really just hurting billions of Americans who are constantly using it for the reason it wasn’t even made for.
Social networking has now introduced an innovative way of attaining these norms through virtual communities on the Web. Socialization prepares us for our life experiences. It can be considered a reverential foundation for society. We may not agree to some rules in society, but without socialization a civil society would cease to exist. In addition, any influence on the socialization process has a profound effect on how we function as a community, with some of the more notable discovery’s being email and instant messaging.

Over the course of time, communication has always been an important and crucial part of human evolution; none of us can deny it, but what happened to our form of communication when the Internet came into our lives? At first, there was no Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr or any of those social media sites, and we communicated with others through letters, faxes or phone calls. Later, at the beginnings of the Internet, we had certain online pages with chat rooms where people could engage in conversations and exchange ideas, however, not everyone had access to them, and they certainly did not impact our society greatly due to infrequent use of them. When the Internet became more popular, sites such as Hi5, Bebo, classmates.com, or last.fm were
Social media has been a part of our lives since its debut in the 90’s and as people always wanted means of communication towards other individuals, it has become our new way of interacting with them. According to Bank 2014, there is more of a kind of description what is the process of social media by underlying the interaction among people in which they are creating, sharing, exchanging, modifying their ideas in virtual communities or networks. The very first social media that was recognized was Six Degrees.com created in 1997 which allows people to make a profile and add friends within its community. In
The evolution of mass communications has gone through major developments; from etching the beginnings of an alphabet into a rock the size of a standard dinner table to letting a computer recognize words spoken into a speaker as it types away what it hears. Dating back to around 1700 B.C. when the first alphabet was said to come into existence, society has come far in different fields of communications. Nothing made as large of an impact in the world of communications as the revolution of the Internet. Although the impact has been large, the Internet was certainly not the first to revolutionize communications. When many cities started to arise and become industrial-based, there became a need for more technological advancements. When there was one change in the way of living, a domino effect occurred and many more advancements and developments took place. The mass communications of writing, printing, mass media and entertainment have all influenced how we use the Internet and new technology developments today.
The impact of Social Media on Society Technology has come a long way from its existence till today. In today’s modern world, people are surrounded by technology everywhere. In the present, people are surrounded by disrupting technologies every day. Today, innovators are always creating new technologies that will make an impact on the daily lives of millions. Technology has made the lives of many people easier.
The inference of the words social and media bring to mind thoughts of friendly communication among a group of people. During the decade from 1994 to 2004, six young people became very well known in a television show called “Friends”. Computers and technology were also providing the opportunity to make friends through online communities. In 2002, Friendster was created and promoted a circle of friends among people with common bonds. In 2003, LinkedIn and Myspace arrived on the scene. In 2004, Facebook came into being (digitaltrends.com, 2016). Since that time, social media has seen tremendous growth. It becomes a memory test to correctly identify all of the icons that represent the different platforms.
Social media, a quickly growing and popular knowledge outlet, can become dangerously addictive if the user lacks self-control. There are so many wonderful outcomes from the invention of social media. The biggest being how quickly news can spread. Anyone can share the news that they desire with a few taps on a screen. The fault in this action though, is that false testimonies can be spread just as quickly as true ones. The question is, does the positive outweigh the negative enough for a person to proceed with using social media? Without this innovative creation, though, communication would be dull and boring, so by all means, social media should be used.
