I hope that nobody will argue that an event management industry is a developing and rapidly growing industry nowadays. Nevertheless, it is not easy to find a global statistics confirming this fact, I can refer to a local statistics and existing forecasts in order not to make unsubstantiated statements.
Before providing any examples, let’s start by giving definition to such concepts as “event project management” and “traditional project management”.
A Guide to the Event Project Management Body of Knowledge gives a perfect definition of the first concept, it says that event management is a process by which an event is planned, prepared, and produced. As with any other form of management, it encompasses the assessment, definition, acquisition, allocation, direction, control, and analysis of time, finances, people, products, services, and other resources to achieve objectives. An event manager’s job is to oversee and arrange every aspect of an event, including researching, planning, organizing, implementing, controlling, and evaluating an event’s design, activities, and production [1].
As for “traditional project management”, hereinafter the definition formulated by the Project Management Institute will be used: “Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements” [2].
Please let’s return to the examples supporting the event management industry growth. According to a PriceWaterHouseCoopers report [3] devoted to the economic significance of meetings industry to the U.S. economy, it turned out that this industry (which is, of course, a notable part of the events industry) generates $115 615 millions per year and creates 1 787 thousands full and part-t...

...or watched. However, the elements of effective governance are foundation to success.
The EMBoK processes are interwoven between the scope of management functions (domain classes), such as administration, design, marketing, operations, risk management [6]. If we recall PMBoK, domain classes (or knowledge areas) listed there are completely different.
Final small but important note: all decisions that are made during the event project should be guided by EMBoK values: creativity, strategic thinking, continuous improvement, ethics, and integration [8]. No mention of values that would permeate all aspects of the project management process is included into PMBoK framework.
According to Julia Rutherford Silvers, author of EMBoK, in order to manage each domain class, an event project manager should possess a number of competencies. All of them listed in the table below.
Gray, C., Larson, E. (2008). Project Management: The managerial Process. New York, NY: The McGraw-Hill Companies Inc.
For more than 25 years, The Little Black Book of Project Management has been introducing project managers to the incredibly effective and logical project management skill and methods to help them achieve their goal. This book has been flooded with very nee project management techniques as well as the latest standards of the Project management body of Knowledge (PMBOK) .accepted by PMI (Project Management Institute).
Large and small businesses, governments, and schools strive to build the next new gadget, manage resources more efficiently, and teach or train in more creative ways. If they set out blindly on a task without proper oversight and thought about the process, then surely the result would be a dismal failure. Project management enables these entities, and various others, to carefully consider the many variables before, during, and after the project actually takes place. Project management refers to the careful planning, organization, and management through a single one-time activity. Projects are non-routine tasks that are set out to be accomplished for a specific amount of time (Trelles-Duckett & Lonergan , n.d.). Projects have an absolute
It seems that people time and again have the wrong impression of what a project manager does. It is not about being able to create a compound plan to hang on the wall. It is not about setting up conference after conference. This is about understanding a big business objective, understanding the technology involved, being able to communicate at an assortment of levels, being able to encourage and direct people, being able to handle the constant worry and troubles, and being structured enough to make certain the whole thing that needs to get completed, gets completed. What this comes down to is a project manager should be able to meet or exceed all of the stakeholder's expectations. The project manager also must be able to get others to work with limited authority throughout the duration. "Doing most of the work yourself is a poor long-term development strategy and will never solve the problem." (Lombardo & Eichinger)

The US alone with its world’s largest hotels/market has recorded net value growth, while China has literally doubled the revenue in the same time span. The leisure segment was the industry's most lucrative in 2014, with total revenues of $509.3bn, equivalent to 75.2% of the industry's overall value. The business segment contributed revenues of $167.8bn in 2014, equating to 24.8% of the industry's aggregate value (Global Hotels & Motels 7). The industry’s performance is strong and from 2014-2019 a drive to boost the total value is expected, with the PEST (LE) framework being used to scan the industry’s external macro environment.
“The objective of this phase is to identify events and or future trends that will affect the hotel industry over the next five years. Also, the impact that those events and trends will have on your business in terms of cost and revenue changes and the timing of the impact.” (Fedele, 2010) For each of the external environment, it is also to identify what will affect the performance of the business.
After researching the impacts events have on regional development I have come to agree with the statement ‘The events industry is an effective and appropriate vehicle for facilitation of regional development’. The significance of this thesis is to critically discuss and demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the events industry and regional development while also providing an understanding of the history of events and the increasing significance of the event industry in contemporary society. Real life examples from around the world are used to recognize and justify the event industry as part of the tourism sector and explore specific implications to event management. Various sectors of the events industry are identified and discussed to support the theoretical discussion on how the events industry is an effective and appropriate vehicle for facilitation of regional development.
Event marketing shouldn’t just take the place of traditional or community marketing, but should also be a tactic which is supplemental for both. Most of the companies choose to participate in the events for various reasons. A small company may want to expose that a live webinar event can provide while in case of the large company, it may need face-to-face interaction that a trade show can afford.
“Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to organisational and project activities to achieve the aims of an organisation through projects” (PMI, 2003).
When planning a new project, how the project will be managed is one of the most important factors. The importance of a managers will determine the success of the project. The success of the project will be determined by how well it is managed. Project management is referred to as the discipline that entails the processes of carefully planning, organizing, controlling, and motivating the organization resources so as to foster and facilitate the achievement of specific established and desired goals and meet the specific criteria of success required in the organization (Larson, 2014). Over the course of this paper I will be discussing and analyzing the importance of project management.
The job of an event planner is much more than hanging up streamers, laying table clothes down and checking the quality of the lights. Event planning requires tedious work and strenuous planning. Also called meeting and convention planners, they do everything involved with making sure these events go as anticipated. This includes, working with the client to choose a fabulous and affordable location, hiring quality caterers, selecting perfect entertainment, and even arranging lodging and transportation for attendees who are visiting from afar (McKay). The goal of an event planner is to make sure the event runs very much as anticipated, which includes multiple plans to combat what-if scenario, because no event will ever run exactly as planned.
Project management involves all activities that encompass scheduling, planning, and controlling projects. A successful project manager ensure that an organization’s resources are being used both efficiently and effectively. Most projects need to be uniquely developed require a sense of customization and the ability to adapt to any posed challenges. The scope of effective project management includes defining what the project is and what is being expected to be accomplished. Projects are imposed to fulfill a certain need and project managers must have the ability to create the proper definition. Goals and the means used to attain those goals have to be clearly stated. Project Managers must also have the ability to plan
