That rock would hit here I know it, but I’m dedicated to learn. College got intense and stressful with that meteor coming. Although I’m staying, no matter what. Ok what do I have to do? Oh, class picking. It boggles my mind that so many were optional. I was thinking of not picking any, but you don’t get enough credits from just mandatory classes. Plus maybe I could go to science being it would make up for the boring classes I have to do. Also geography would be nice. Science and geography together make a good combo. Telling where, when, and what will happen when the meteor hits. Whether it would be an extinction level event, or a natural school only disaster. We’ll see. I figured out all the people. The dumb and tall, the smart and small. A wide variety. Although I figured out what I am. “Hey you know you’re really weird? I mean I knew there’s weird but you’re super weird.” That was Artanis. His name sounds like a god’s but I wouldn’t complain if I was him. It doesn’t matter anyway. The sounds of the news is constant for students trying to keep track of the meteor. More annoying than anything in college. The meteor will hit the school, so? It’s not an extinction level event...Ok, it might but I’m not running just yet we still have five months of school so that means by the last day of school it will hit. …show more content…
“The meteor is three weeks away and students still learn.
Authorities say that we should shut down the school due to…” See even the news is all over it. It makes no sense to me, people leaving at a steady pace. It’s a nice school, with nice people. Artanis says I need to appreciate that they think of their life as worth it, so they can make a difference. My dad always said,” Your life doesn’t make a difference unless you make it make a difference. Just like your life doesn’t matter unless you do something to make it matter. Don’t hold your halo with horns.” He died three weeks ago at age forty-three from a heart failure. He was a wise
man. Today is the day it’s burning up in our atmosphere. “EVERYONE GET OUT!!!!” People were running like crazy some got trampled and some got stuck, but none were me. I slam through the door with everyone screaming. Not today. I denied death, staring at the meteor. I quickly ran behind a far about 30 meter away building and. BOOOOOOOM. The shock wave knocked me down but I was fine.”This is where the college got a natural demolition. Twenty dead, and four with serious injury from shrapnel.” That meteor hit here we knew it. But we were dedicated to learn.
As a public high school teacher, I have seen hundreds of students walk in and out of my classroom over the last 12 years, and Alejandra is in the top 1% of students who have had a positive impact on me. I cannot say enough about her character and integrity. She is resilient and has been an encouragement to me and countless other students and teachers—on and off campus. We will miss her positive presence next year.
I was nave. I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and a painful boomerang of expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: That I am nobody but myself. But first I had to discover that I am an invisible man! (Ellison 361)
There was a few things common with each student at the SharpsTown High School and one of those things are their past lives. Most didn’t have a family that really cared for them or none at all. The ones that did, really didn’t have the best, if I had a choice , the best family relationship would be Marco and his family, but that’s none of my business. For the rest of them, they seemed to have doubts
General Education courses may be one of the most hated requirements in college by students. These courses are required amongst all college students regardless of one’s major or minor. General Education courses may vary with schools but usually consist of: the arts and humanities, social science, natural science, mathematics, and writing. These courses should be optional; students should be able to take them at their own interest such as with elective courses. Without General Education courses it is understood that students will not have completed or received credits needed to graduate. Required college courses should be based solely on one’s major or minor. Students should not be required to take general education courses for the simple fact that they are deemed “important”. General Education courses causes more money, unnecessary time spent taking classes that do not correlate with one’s major, and also lower grades. However, general education classes are said to be the basic skills needed for college students.
McKinney Secondary School of Arts is Dasani’s outlet. It is here that she is able to express herself and forget about everything for a while. The school has the basic necessities, most of which is donated. The teachers are very aware of the home life that many of these kids have and do their best to make educating them fun and that they feel supported. Instead of calling home as a disciplinary action, Principal Paula Holmes makes deals with the kids. If they start behaving better, she does not call home and this method usually works. Calling home could result in a physical punishment for the kids. The faculty do their best to provide the children with a safe learning environment. The faculty is some of the only guidance these children have.
Growing up in Lagos, Nigeria is one of the most difficult obstacles I have ever gone through; education is limited due to poor developmental formation. I did not receive the best learning experience. Nigeria is one of the toughest places to live, especially during an economic crisis. In Nigeria, when parents cannot afford to pay for their children’s education, the principal of the school stops them from attending classes. So imagining or comparing that with college, it would be worse because there won’t be any financial assistance from no one, you have to fight for yourself. As a child, I remember the principal of my school asking if I had paid my school fees. My reply: no. He whipped me five times on both my hands and butt. Then sent me home. I cried all the way home to my mother. She couldn’t believe what happened. If she chose to quarrel with the principal, she wouldn’t gain anything from it because I would be rejected from attending school. She had no money and even my dad, who struggled as a bus driver, could not provide the money needed. My parents are the ones who make sure I’m on the right track and concentrating on education. “Heaven helps those who help themselves.” My Dad always uses this phrase whenever he is serious about education. If I really want to succeed in education, I should keep on trying to help myself and be dedicated in whatever situation I find myself into. Coming to the U.S. gave me a lot of hope to be like other kids. It gave me the desire to believe in myself that dreams never die. I was shocked on my first day of school (middle school) in the United States. I asked my dad, “How much did you pay in order for me to get into this big school”? “Zero,” he replied. I could not
the core classes. This would save funding for the university because they would not have to teach redundant classes that only review what a student knows.
Have you ever gone to an amazing school then the next year it goes to total crap? Well, that’s what happened to me with Tuacahn high school for the performing arts. Tuacahn used to be an amazing school in what we called the canyon of the gods but now it’s in the canyon of pure misery. All the students are over worked, the teachers are depressed, and no one ever learns anything!
Meteors are very common throughout outer space. They are being whipped around our solar system in every orbit possible. Normally they are peacefully and serenely floating through space, but one just has to look at the cratered face of our moon or Jupiter's moon Callisto to see that more than a few meteor's journeys through space have been interrupted. The earth has been hit before and will be hit in the future, statistics show this. We must detect the meteors a long time before they cross paths with Earth to prevent an impact. The likelihood of a significant meteor impact in the near future is extremely small, but it is still a possibility.
When a school is failing, the options for next steps can seem impossible or nonexistent, leaving school officials uncertain of what to do next. “Under No Child Left Behind policies, failing schools face the possibilities of ‘restructuring’ whereby half or more of the teachers may be fired or a complete school shutdown.” Many times these schools occur in lower economic areas and students are facing challenges like “lack of health care, more lead-poisoning, iron-deficiency anemia, family instability, more exposure to crime and drugs, fewer positive role models, and less exposure to culturally uplifting experiences.” The question debated is whether we can change these failing schools for the better. Some people believe that it is in the student’s best interest to close the schools and start over. However, others say that “it may take courage to close schools, but it takes, experience, wisdom, and persistence – as well as courage – to improve them and to strengthen families and communities.”
One of the reasons for my dislike of high school is that I, like almost all other students, was required to take classes that were of no interest to me, whatsoever. Sure, there were classes that I partially enjoyed but that enjoyment quickly evaporated after a short while. At the time, I really wished I had the opportunity to “pick and choose” classes that I wanted to take. I thought it would all change when I started college. In ways it has. I am now able to choose classes I am most interested in, but I am also required to take elective and other classes that are unrelated to my major. Though, now, I am not so against it. I have actually enjoyed taking unrelated classes. This is because I have learned that there are, in fact, multiple benefits of taking classes outside of a major. Required classes are beneficial because they allow a student to discover unknown interests, gain a wider area of knowledge and expertise, as well as it gives that student the ability to use an area of knowledge from one area to aid in another.
On February 15 2013 a meteor streaked across sky and exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia. It set off one of the largest explosion of its kind, according to Western scientists. Flying glass and debris caused most of the injuries from the meteor strike. The shock wave violently jolted the city of Chelyabinsk. Coincidently, it hit on the same day that astronomers were watching another large rock pass Earth by just 17,200 miles. As it turns out, the Earth getting hit by meteorites isn’t so unusual.
Legend has it that to wish upon a shooting star will grant a person their wish. Despite the myths and the misleading name, shooting stars or falling stars are neither magical nor stars. Rather meteors produced by small fragments of cosmic debris, typically from comets. Nonetheless, the fascination people have over the astral light has been around for centuries. On an average night it is typical to see a few sporadic meteors per hour. However, the amazing spectral of meteor showers refers to the brief period of increased meteor activity that occurs at particular times of the year. The creation of meteor showers can best be understood by looking at the fundamental characteristics of meteoroids as well as the orbits of both the Earth and comets.
Yet, we are losing a great deal. We'll lose a lot of great teachers, we are giving up this small caring community, and in return we are moving to larger schools -- where we will be known by number rather than name. And we are splitting up. We are all going our own ways, and many of us will never see each other again.
In life poor decisions are made which leads to repercussions that can land anyone in a difficult situation. For example, A teenager drops out of high school, hangs out with a negative group of friends who encourage rebellion, and ends up uneducated out in the streets doing illegal activities; that choice to leave school has created many other problems because of it. In the poem “We Real Cool” by Gwendolyn Brooks, Brooks gave a genuine answer to what commonly happens when the negative choice of dropping out of school can lead one; “We Left school, We Lerk late, We die soon” (732-733). Many people drop out of school and become very successful however that is not the case for all people so when a kid makes that choice poor things can happen.
