In the movie The Proposal starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, an ethical dilemma is shown by Sandra Bullock’s character, Margaret Tate. Margaret is the executive editor in chief of a book publishing company and Andrew Paxton is her assistant. Margaret’s visa is soon to be revoked as she violated some of the terms in her work visa. Andrew has worked his way up at the book publishing company and dreams of being an editor at the company. With Margaret on the verge of deportation, she expresses to Andrew that this could also set back all of his accomplishments and he would have to start back at the bottom if he didn’t have her to help him.
The main dilemma of The Proposal is that Margaret bribes Andrew into a fake marriage. In return for the marriage, she promises to make him editor and publish his book. When getting interrogated by a U.S. Immigration Agent, Andrew learns that he could face up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000 if he is caught lying. The Paxton family has created a monopolization of the small town of Sitka. They own all of the stores and shops in town; this gives them the ability to control the supply and demand of products as no alternative solutions are within reach due to the location and population of Sitka relative to the other towns nearby. The other business dilemma stems from Oscar Nunez’s character Ramone. Ramone is a jack of all trades as his character is seen serving food as a party host, convenience store clerk, minister, and also the town stripper. These roles do not limit his ability to perform well in all of his jobs, but should any of those jobs carry any moral obligations? In other words, does the fact he is a minister mean that he should not be the town

The essay “A Modest Proposal” written by Johnathan Swift takes a satirical view on how to solve the starvation issue in Ireland. Swift suggests an obviously satirical solution of eating children around the age of one. He used irony, ambiguity, and ethos to emphasize the satirical nature of the essay and present a captivating idea to the audience.
The major true ethical dilemma in this case is whether the human resource specialist should hire Garza permanently knowing she is an illegal worker or deny Garza the position. An additional ethical dilemma is presented to Mark, after the interview with Garza. Mark is faced with the decision whether the plant should continue to employ temporary Hispanic workers knowing that they may be an illegal or stop hiring these employees.

The movie would be best directed by Stephen Spielberg, because of his ability to keep movies true to nature, and still produce a compelling story. This would be an excellent project for him because the objective of the film is to do exactly what Spielberg did with movies such as Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan: to take a story, fiction or non-, and portray it as a emotionally moving picture, while keeping it true to the original vision.
Similar to Matthew 7, in the Twelfth Book of Matthew, verse 33, he states “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit” (2015). If Ramona disapproves of the CEO’s behavior and actions during the pep rally, she should not sign the contract simply to earn “big bucks” and represent a company with conflicting values. Ramona should not accept the position with Next Step due to its questionable business practices, the dismissiveness of the Next Step recruiter when questioned regarding the company’s ethics code and the CEO exhibiting non-ethical and immoral
In the film Antwone Fisher (2002), we witness the evolving therapeutic relationship of a psychiatrist, Dr. Jerome Davenport, and his client, Antwone Fisher. As a member of the military, Antwone is mandated to report to therapy sessions with Dr. Davenport after an altercation with a fellow serviceman. The relationship between Antwone and Dr. Davenport evolves beyond their mandated sessions and allows for the exploration of personal issues for both individuals. As a result of this, many ethical dilemmas occur that force Dr. Davenport to make decisions both in line with and against various principle ethics.
Abortion has been a political, social, and personal topic for many years now. This paper will examine a specific example where abortion is encouraged, identify the Christian world views beliefs and resolution as well as the consequences of such, and compare them with another option.
Lastly, by holding unlawful job negotiations with a Pentagon official, the Boeing former financial officer was seen to be breaching the utilitarianism principle. Moreover, concealing of the findings of the internal studies regarding gender’s pay further illustrates this ethical lapse in Boeing.
Eight years ago, the world economy crashed. Jobs were lost, families misplaced, hundreds of thousands of people left shocked and confused as they watched the security of their world fall to pieces around them. In, “The Big Short,” a film directed by Adam McKay and based on the book written by Michael Lewis, viewers get an inside perspective on how the financial crisis of 2008 really happened. Viewers learn the truth about the unethical actions and irrational justifications made by those who unwittingly set the world up for failure. Two main ethically tied decisions are brought into question when watching the film: how could anyone conscionably make the decision to mislead investors by misrepresenting mortgage backed securities (MBS), and why
Justice and ethics are, in part, conceptually what defines right and wrong. For many people, this stems from religious traditions, however there are historically, and current, instances when a religious regime grows so powerful it becomes virtually unchecked. To be clear, I do not interpret any religion as good or bad. However, from a historical and political perspective, religious institutions, customs, and laws have been used to hide heinous crimes. The movie, “Spotlight”, is based on a true story about a team of investigative journalists at the Boston Globe. The Spotlight Team was comprised of multiple reporters, namely: Marty Baron, Ben Bradlee, Jr., Sacha Pfeiffer, Mike Rezendes, and Walter Robinson. The film starts in 2001, when the team
Gilbertson gave them step-by-step instructions on how the process for them to get approved for their marriage. "Step one: I will put each of you in a room and I will ask you every little question a couple who would know about each other. Step two: I dig deeper. I look at your phone records, I talk to your neighbors, I interview your coworkers. If your answers do not match up at every point you will be reported indefinitely. And you, young man, will have committed a felony, punishable by a fine of two hundred fifty thousand dollars and a stay of five years in federal prison." Mr. Gilbertson breaks it down to Margret and Andrew if he finds out they are lying about being in love, she would be deported back to Canada. And Andrew would receive a fine in addition to a maximum of five years in prison. This is an example
...vailing attitudes and inheritance laws, it would be considered perfectly normal, wise even, for women to enter into a marriage which was financially advantageous, although loveless, in order to ensure financial security for themselves and the other members of their family. In other words, it would be entirely normal for women not to be allowed to say “no”.
In an Arrange Marriage people do not have options what so ever to choose who they want to spend their life with. “Seventeen years later, Im still married to him, still grieving, and still trying to figure out why I stay.” said Debie Thomas in her own article called "I Wanted to Marry My Soul Mate. My Parents Had Other Ideas. Seventeen Years Later, Here’s What Happened”. Debie was twenty-two when she met her husband Alex. Debie’s pa...
As a student interested in one day starting a firm, learning the business models and its advantage is prepping me for the real world. Those models like the SWOT Analysis are bringing me closer to my dream of running my own business. Professor Sheldon’s experience in the business atmosphere has opened my mind to the experience of running an enterprise. This has helped me slowly develop my plans on what nature of business I want to enter and the stakeholders I’m obligated too. Apart from obligation I am also subjected to the laws of the land and a social responsibility. I must consider ethical behaviour in doing business as a lack of it has negative effects. Look at Enron for example, where the firm lied to their stakeholders just to keep stock prices up and later crashed the company. This resulted in many investors losing their pension and savings and now the board is serving long jail
