Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858 in New York City, New York in the United States. Theodore was the second child of four children in a wealthy, upper-class family. Theodore’s father was a businessman and philanthropist. Theodore’s mother was also born from an affluent family. Starting at a very early age, Theodore suffered from a heavy case of asthma and had horrible eyesight throughout his whole life. He did a lot of physical activity and developed a very strong physique. Despite physical barriers, Theodore had a very strong outlook on life and was very strong physically and mentally. Theodore was also very intelligent and he attended Harvard College and Columbia Law School.

Their different perspective and priorities were evident in their speeches: New Nationalism by Roosevelt and New Freedom by Wilson. Wilson's New Freedom looked to the destruction of all trusts to promote economic competition and permit small businesses once again to flourish. While the federal government was to use its power on a one-time basis to bust all trusts, the federal government was to have no role in regulating business. After nearly a decade of optimism and prosperity, the United States took a turn for the worse on October 29, 1929 the day the stock market crashed, better known as Black Tuesday and the official beginning of the Great Depression. The downfall of the economy during the presidency of Herbert Hoover led to much comparison when his successor, Franklin D. Roosevelt, took office. Although both presidents had their share of negative feedback, it is evident that Hoover’s inaction towards the crises and Roosevelt’s later eccentric methods to simulate the economy would place FDR in the positive limelight of fixing the nation in one of its worst times.

He attended Davidson College and Princeton University. Next, he attended University of Virginia where he studied law. Finally, Wilson studied political science and history at John Hopkins University. Next, with his numerous degrees and extensive knowledge, Wilson taught at a verity of universities between 1885 and 1902, as well as being the dean of a graduate school in 1910. (Link.pg1). Finally in 1912 Wilson ran for president of the United States and won.
World War I, or the Great War, lasted from 1914 to 1918. In harsh battles between some of the world’s strongest economic powers, millions of people were killed and wounded. Woodrow Wilson was the President of the United States during these years, and he yearned for peace. Towards the end of the conflict, Wilson delivered a speech called “Fourteen Points” on January 8, 1918. His goal in doing so was to create some stability in a time of crisis. Even though the leaders of some countries did not jump on board right away, they eventually agreed to signing the Treaty of Versailles, officially ending the war. I personally have not studied Wilson in-depth, but did realize he fell into the category of a racist. I also believe that “Americans need to learn from the Wilson era, that there is a connection between racist presidential leadership and like-minded public response” (Loewen 21). I think this an important factor when considering who to vote for at the polls.
