Every school day, seven thousand students make the hardest decision of their life. They decide to dropout before graduating high school. Dropouts are less likely to find work because they don't have a diploma, they also don't earn a very good living wage. If you don't earn a good living wage your life will be miserable because you won't be able to afford anything that you actually need and when you get married and have kids what are you going to do when they want and need stuff. Dropping out of high school is an issued face by many teens today most of the students that drop are more focused on like drugs, crime, or even pregnancy.
Pregnancy is a big problem today with a lot of young teens. These teens that are having babies at fourteen is a big mistake in their part because it could ruin their childhood and their body. About twenty five percent of girls dropout because they are pregnant or have recently given birth to a child. They also don't have time to come back to school because they have to take care of the baby. Teen pregnancy is frusterating for educators because of the way rates influence teens to leave school early and make the decision to drop out of school.

Drugs are so addictive and make kids wanna do nothing like go to school. Their is all different kinds of drugs and the high schoolers that dropout are more likely to do these drugs because they have been doing it for a while. Kids around the age of sixteen or eighteen that dropout are more likely to smoke and drink or already have been smoking and drinking for a longtime since the age of thirteen or fourteen. Drugs and alcohol are big things going around these days because the more people that use them is going to make the dropout rate a lot more than what it should be. Most dropouts are because of seniors that drink, studies show that forty-two percent of who dropout drank about a third engaged in binge
How does dropping out of high school affects students’ lives in the future? Students’ dropping out has become a crisis, President Obama said, “It’s time for all of us to come together parents and students, principals, and teachers, business leaders and elected officials to end America’s dropout crisis” (“ President Obama”). There are 7 thousand students’ that drop out of high school that adds up to about 1.2 million each year, wouldn’t it be nice to drop that number and help kids stay in school instead of dropping out of high school(“ President Obama”). Students’ shouldn’t drop out of high school because they couldn’t go to college, couldn’t hold down a job, and would struggle making minimum wage for the rest of their life.
After graduating from high school, the clearest path in the eyes of the American middle class is to head off to college and earn a bachelor’s degree. The rising cost to attend college is an unsettling reality to those striving to fulfil this chapter in life. Financial problems, complications with time management, and family issues commonly put a strain on college students. Seen as their only escape, dropping out looks to be the almighty resolution. With all choices, there are consequences. Dropping out of college, in my opinion, is not the best choice to be made. The outcome of doing so will result in limited career options, having low pay and debt from borrowing money to pay for schooling.
Teenagers dropping out of high school affect every single person in America. However, most people do not understand why they should personally concern themselves with one of the most stereotyped subsets of the United States’ population. One unacknowledged fact about dropouts is that they will, over the course of their lifetime, cost the United States government $72,000 while high school graduates will benefit the government $315,000 (Emery). This affects every person in America. Taxpayers and their families are forced to pay for the services high school dropouts need. Such services include food stamps, welfare, incarceration costs, and even healthcare. Since high school dropouts are expected to make drastically less money than their classmates who did graduate, they need to rely on the aforementioned services at some point in their life; some high school dropouts rely on government assistance throughout their entire life. High school dropouts are also 63 times more likely to become incarcerated than college graduates (Breslow). This also puts a huge strain on taxpayers and their families with the cost to run prisons rising each year.
Reason to listen: Teenage pregnancy is one of the major causes of high school and college dropout among young girls.
Dropping out of school may seem reasonable to pupils now, but can have a negative impact in the long run. According to a data collection on average income, “High School Diploma- $27,380. High School Dropout- $19,540”( Source 3). One can clearly see that children who did not dropout of high school made more money than children who did. Money is an essential part of human life and raising the dropout age can increase the pay of many adolescents. Based on Paul Moran’s talk with Missy Remiss, “Those without a high school diploma have lower earnings, higher
Teen pregnancy is affecting the graduation rate in high schools. “Approximately 1,000 high school students will drop out with each hour that passes in a school day in America” (National Women’s Law Center, 2007). Teen pregnancy first came into view in the 1950’s. In different states teens that were pregnant were not allowed to attend school, most of them had to switch schools out of state in order to attend. Teenage pregnancy was normal in previous centuries and common in developed countries in the twentieth century. As higher education became available to women, they began to start their families later in life. By the 1950’s, parents were encouraging their kids to stay in school and to not marry until they graduate high school so they can focus on school better. Today, any teen pregnancy is frowned upon and they are getting judged. Parents want their kids to enjoy all the benefits of higher education before they begin their families. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “in 2011, a total of 329,797 babies were born in the United States to girls between the ages of fifteen and nineteen.” Teenage pregnancy is the number on...
A total of 3,030,000 students drop out of high school annually in the United States, thirty six percent of whom drop out in the ninth grade (SB). With each student that drops out, there must also be the thought of said student’s future and how he or she will affect the futures of others. The overwhelming amount of teenagers leaving school will have long term effects on the economy. Assuming a student who has dropped out of school is not going to pursue getting a GED (General Education Development), then according to drop out rates that student “will not be eligible for ninety percent of jobs currently offered in the United States” (SB). By not earning a degree, a dropout cannot make the same amount as a college graduate or even someone who has achieved a diploma. Without being able to get a stable job to support a daily life, people turn to the government for help which in turn cost the public billions of dollars every year. Claudio Sanchez from the National public Radio defined taxpayer’s losses to be “up to 350 billion a year in lost wages, taxable income, health, welfare, and incarceration costs among others” (Zhao). With the public’s loss of money there is no telling how much of what is going where. The money going towards supporting dropouts is a large miss use, seeing as dropouts could have potentially continued school. Students ending education early on and relying on government support will continue to take the economy into an unstable downturn.
Students shouldn’t be allowed to drop out before they turn 18 (Schragel). Most students that drops out of school before they turn 18 are mostly troubled students. They have no interests in graduating and acts like a clown so that everyone else could suffer right along with them. The students themselves make wrong decisions. They get into situations they can’t get themselves out of and don’t know how to deal with them. They have no one to turn to after they burn so many bridges , so therefore dropping out maybe what they want to do in order to forget about everything altogether. Honestly I don’t think Students under 18 should have a choice in dropping out because its not going to lead them anywhere they want to be. No one should be able to drop out , they will need their education.
Imagine dropping out of school and soon your relationships with family, friends, and significant others start failing. What would you do? Many young Americans are dropping out of school, which causes many consequences in many aspects of their lives. Relationships of dropouts are ruined because they have limited education. High school dropouts have little to no luck finding a job. There are many advantages to raising the high school dropout age to 18. Dropping out of high school should be banned because it has many long-term consequences for individuals and society.
High school can be tough for many teenagers. Some students may feel as if the classes they are taking are boring or the material being taught will not help them later on in life. These students begin to not show up for class and then their grades start lowering drastically. Next, these students come up with the idea that dropping out is the easiest and fastest way to escape all the stress that is caused by academics. However, they need to start looking at the bigger picture and asking themselves if quitting school is going to help them reach their personal goals. Most people want to live a life filled with laughter and have the least amount of trouble as possible. Dropping out of high school will not bring joy to anyone, it will only affect the dropout and also our society in a negative way.
Babies are born more likely to be born premature and/or suffer low birth weight. There are a lot of problems involved with children having children. There is a higher risk of low birth rate, premature labor, and stillbirth. The problem is teenage girls are not done growing and fully maturing, there for, when they become pregnant it induces problems not only on the baby but the mother as well. *A general rule: The younger the mother, the greater risk of complications for both the mother and child. Often pregnant teenage mothers deny the fact that they are indeed pregnant, therefor ignoring the proper care that she needs for the growing baby inside of her. There are no easy answers; that’s one thing that everyone agrees on when it comes to the problem of teen pregnancy. The Center of Disease Control and prevention affirmed on June 26 what other agencies, such as the National Center for Health Statistics, have been saying over the course of this year: “The teen pregnancy rate is dropping. The number of teenage girls across the country who became pregnant fell 12 percent between 1991 and 1996. This drops affects girls, of different races and socioeconomic backgrounds, in all states. But the problem remains; The U.S. teen pregnancy rate is the highest of any industrialized countries. Babies born in the U.S. to teenager mothers are at risk for long-term problems in many major areas of life, including school failure, poverty, and physical or mental illness. The teenage mothers themselves are also at risk for these problems.
Other causes of teen pregnancy can be due to the “teen rebellious stage”, and girls that feel like they aren’t getting enough attention and think getting pregnant is the only way to feel important (Kirby 89-94). Most teen girls are asked to drop out in the later stages of pregnancy because they do not to “encourage” other girls. High schools are starting to try to educate girls in their care they not only want to teach them about sex, they want to teach them what to do if they ...
Teens today face a lot of pressure. Many students deal with difficult life situations that hinder them from focusing on their futures. This can lead to a loss of interest in school and school events, such as a sports, clubs, or after school programs. Teens start to prioritize other things over their education. Every year, over 1.2 million students will leave school without earning a high school diploma in the United States alone (“11”). That’s a student every 26 seconds – or 7,000 a day (“11”). The United States, which used to have the highest graduation rates of any country, now ranks 22nd out of 27 developed countries (“11”). Students may not realize that by dropping out of high school they are more likely to commit crimes, become parents at a young age, use and abuse alcohol and drugs, and live in poverty (“Drop”). Dropouts make up the majority of those
Regrettably, some students must drop out of school and use that time to get a job to help support their families. Female students who become pregnant have to drop out to take care of their child. Poor choices constrain some students to land themselves behind bars before their education becomes complete. Primary caretakers becoming ill and/or dying can force high schoolers to drop out and to take on the role of their family member, who has now become unable (“School Dropout”). These events can leave kids all over the country with two different options that have a few stunning similarities; receiving their GED, or dropping out of high school without a
As time goes on, teen pregnancy is becoming more and more common throughout the world. So many people frown upon this whole idea. Such people act as if the teenage parents’ world is going to come to an end. Although these kids’ life is going to be making a big turn, there are many of them who are mature enough to take on the responsibilities of a baby.
