Report- Type 2 diabetes
Introduction- Type 2 diabetes is becoming a major issue as it is emerging fast and the raise of people diagnosed with diabetes is increasing rapidly. Unless appropriate action is taken, it is predicted that there will be at least 350 million people in the world with type 2 diabetes by the year 2030, this is double the current number. This is an issue because if it isn’t helped someone with diabetes will have a high risk of having heart stroke, lung failure and worst case scenario death. Having that been said I will be explaining how someone who doesn’t have type 2 diabetes can prevent getting it and I will also display a diagram showing the science behind type 2 diabetes.

Even if you have several of the risk factors and have been told you have pre-diabetes, you can take action and reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. One way to prevent type 2 diabetes is choosing a healthier diet by reducing portions and limiting added fat and sugar. Specifically choose more whole grains, vegetables, lean meats and dairy products. Eating healthy will lower your blood sugar levels, and eating low glycemic foods will help achieve a more stable blood sugar level. Another way to help prevent type 2 diabetes is exercising. Exercising is important to help prevent this case as it has so many benefits. Everyone needs regular aerobic exercise, and people who have type 2 diabetes are no exception. What’s most important is making physical activity part of your daily routine, it will also decrease your blood sugar levels. It can help you lose weight, and if you’re insulin resistant, it can help your body increase its sensitivity to insulin (exercise can help you use insulin better) and is a great way to prevent type 2 diabetes such as maintaining a healthy diet too.
Why is type 2 diabetes an issue for my community?- Type 2 diabetes is one of the biggest international health challenges in the world. The number of people in New Zealand with type 2 diabetes has doubled in the last 10 years, although the true extent of the disease remains unknown. My community is not
Glucose is a sugar that plays a big part in a human’s health and well-being. This sugar is a major source of energy for the body’s brain and cells. The Cells that receive energy from glucose help in the building of the body’s muscle and tissue. Although glucose may be important to the body too much of this sugar can cause a chronic condition called Diabetes. Diabetes, also known as Diabetes mellitus, is a chronic condition that is caused by too much sugar in the blood. This condition can affect all age groups. In fact, in 2010 a survey was taken by the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse, on the number of newly diagnosed diabetes. Out of 1,907,000 people: 24.38% were ages 20-44, 55.17% were ages 45-64, and 20.45% were ages 65 and greater. Diabetes is a very serious condition, and it can be deadly if left untreated. This paper will help better educate the reader on the signs and symptoms, the testing process, and the management of diabetes.
The case study chosen for this assignment is case study #2: Hannah is a 10-year-old girl who has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. She is a 4th grade student at Hendricks Elementary School. Prior to her diagnosis, Hannah was very involved in sports and played on the girls’ volleyball team. Her mother is concerned about how the diagnosis will affect Hannah.
Thesis: Diabetes type 1 is different from type 2 and if given the wrong treatment it could lead to devastating consequences.
Accordingto Diabetes UK (2012) “There are currently 3.8 million people in the UK with diabetes, including an estimated 850,000 people who have Type 2 diabetes but do not know it.” Helping to shape their services and work, Diabetes UK makes sure to involve people affected by and at risk of diabetes no matter what ethnic background they come from. From support and care to preventing, campaigning, fundraising and researching, they work to take on the fastest growing epidemic in the UK.
Preventing diabetes is possible, and somewhat easy. Studies have shown that 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week can decrease your chances of getting diabetes, as well as eating healthier. Keeping a nutrition log and a fitness journal are good starts to help the motivation for preventing diabetes. Watching your sugar intake is also a good thing to do if you’re trying to prevent this
When the blood glucose is higher than the normal levels, this is known as diabetes disease. The body turns the food we eat into glucose or sugar and use it for energy. The insulin is a hormone created by the pancreas to help the glucose get into the cells. The sugar builds up in the blood because either the body doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t well use its own insulin (CDC, 2015). In the United States diabetes is known as the seventh leading cause of death. There are different types of diabetes. However, there are two main types of diabetes and these are; Diabetes type 1 and Diabetes type 2 (CDC, 2015).
All in all, my mother’s family who suffered from diabetes were considered to be obese. Although medications, exercise, or dieting will not for sure cure anyone, had they taken better precautions it is possible they may have lived a longer life. Being a genetic trait in my family I find it important to work out and watch what I eat so that I can avoid getting any types of diabetes. Make it your goal to be aware of what you are doing in your everyday life because you never knew if what you eat or do today will affect you tomorrow.

Imagine not being able to have a snack or candy whenever you want to in a day. Many people have to watch what they eat, especially diabetics because of lack of insulin in their bodies. They have to watch their sugar intake daily and also keep up with insulin shots. Diabetes is a life long disease which isn’t easy to have without new technological advancements. The rapid growth of technology has made health care more successful, specifically in the advancements for the cure and treatments of diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is a condition that affects the way the body processes glucose. I stated things that I can do to lower my chances of having type 2 diabetes is watching what I eat, decreasing the amount of sugar, chips and snacks I consume. I can start now to try to eat more balanced meals and choose healthier snack options. Risk factors that contribute to type 2 diabetes are physical inactivity and moderate body mass index.
