STANDARDS CERTIFICATION
Nowadays, one of the most important issues that companies have to face, is a high level of competition in the markets, either national or international markets. The globalized world in which we live, push the companies to look for different ways to differentiate themselves from the other companies, either to differentiate their products, their processes, their services. This differentiation, together with an increases or quality of the companies, is what sets the bases of the satisfaction of the clients.
The companies have the need of demonstrate that they are able to successfully fullfit their clients specified requirements. They way to do it is through international stardards, which provide guarantees that the company has the quality to achieve their objectives, and gives the client the confidence to assign the job to that company.
ISO, the International Organization for Standardization, is the international body that sets worldwide standards for manufacturing, trade and communication.
Companies which follow ISO Standards not only obtain the guarantee that they can achieve their client´s requirements, this companies achieve different benefits provided by these Standards. International Standards bring technological, economic and societal benefits.
There are several studies made by different authors that conclude that International Standards provide benefits to those who follow them.
In a business framework, these Standards provide a guideline for the companies, giving them the chance to save money by optimizing operations, by rising customer satisfactions, by accessing to new markets, by increasing productivity and by reducing negative impacts to the environment.

For all the organizations around the world, occupational health and safety is one of the most important aspects to take care of.
This standard, worldwide accepted, sets the requirements for obtaining and develop an effective occupational health and safety management system.
There was a period of time where there were several national standards and different certifications. This caused confusion within the market and created trade barriers. In order to solve this, an international collaboration called the Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Services (OHSAS) Project Group was formed to create a single unified approach. Drawing the best existing standards and schemes, the OHSAS Project Group published the OHSAS 18000 series in 1999. The series consisted of two specifications, 18001 and 18002.
