Social life and making friends on US university campuses After reading the Nathan’s article, I came to realize that Nathan’s keeps her principle focus on how foreign students intermingle with American students and the distinctive type of relationships that they procedure. It is quite strange to some of the foreign student’s that Nathan has interviewed about how non-committed American students are to the foreign students because Americans students do not socialize as much, tending to spend more time alone and how they will make small talk rather than being close friends or let it evolve into more. Based on her research which she had done, she claims that most foreign students don’t have that many American friends and the foreign they claim that American students are not interested in becoming friends with foreign students. She gets more in-depth into this topic and presents the reader how rather than just becoming close friends, American students tends to make small talk with foreign students and tends to focus minding own their own businesses. Also, in her research, she found that in America if you don’t have a hobby it’s very difficult for you or anyone to make friends especially if you are foreign students. Which I think is very true, even from my personal experience I feel like this is probably the most accurate statements. I remember, when I started college last semester, few my classmates were going to watch Temple Football match, due to my family matter I wasn’t able to attend, afterward, they started to become less interested in me or interested in talking with me. Which indicates that If you don’t like the similar things it’s hard to get along with American students. For instance, in her research, she interview students from different countries and asked them about their opinion on American students. As one student from Germany expressed that once a young lady asked "How are you?" and when the German understudy answered he wasn 't feeling too well, the young lady exchanged subjects and imagined that he never specified he felt sick. The German understudy went ahead to say that she was most likely attempting to be minding, however in Germany that would have been swelled into a discussion. Foreign students also found it difficult to make new friends among American students, and usually turned to other foreigners.
