You Can Breathe The crisis of racism has been resparked, and virtually everyone is familiar with the phrase “We Can't Breathe”. With this crisis is the growing number of white people who are taking offense to People of Color pointing out the bigotry of white supremacy and its reign in America. Instead of focusing on the matter that is systematic racism, white people plead they are victims of reverse racism. The problem is, reverse racism is fictitious, brought up when white people feel an ounce of the disempowerment People of Color have long since felt. In my lifetime, I would like to solve the problem that is, white people genuinely believing reverse racism is realistic. This is significant to me because I, being a black female, cannot Oppression has power behind it, and that is something People of Color cannot compete against. That is why we cannot see a Person of Color insulting a white person as racist. Hurting the feelings of white people is not a result of their many years of oppression and constant battles with injustices due to their race. Being a powerful Person of Color is not alway pervasive, and they are viewed as the runt of the litter in a white-ruling hierarchal system. An additional step to finding a solution would be teaching white people that because People of Color have come to terms and publicly acknowledge their white privilege is not an indicator of racism. It is an indicator that we, People of Color, are aware of the injustices we face. We know that just because someone is white, they will automatically have a better opportunity in life, whether or not they work hard for it. I find that the easiest solution to the problem is for white people to not take offense to the acknowledgement of a white privileged American society, but instead work with People of Color to make a change.
