Abstract :A fresh food which is prepared in a manufacturing plant must undergo several stages throughout its shelf-life. To achieve its sole purpose that is to reach the customer in a best possible way it is necessary to pack it in that regard. Hence Packaging technology acquires the big stage to assure desired returns to the processed food. A package provides protection to the food inside against external force and many other tampering agents. It may also containa nutritional facts label and other information about food being marketed. A choice of packaging machinery requires consideration of technical capabilities, maintainability, serviceability, ability to integrate into the packaging line, capital cost, floor space, flexibility, energy …show more content…

Introduction:
The history of packaging goes back to the age of primitive human beings in sought of food. Giant steps in science and technology has given a tremendous boost to this value adding field. The world saw the first packaging machine in 1940s which was patented to USSR engineers.
Packaging technology also called as packaging engineering, packaging science is a broad topic ranging from design conceptualization to product placement. Through the inclusion of concurrent engineering packaging need to undergo thorough interaction with research and development, manufacturing, marketing, graphic design, regulation, purchasing, planning etc.
Packaging machines are also called Form Fill Seal (FFS) machines. This acronym is because of three main functions of packaging machines.
Form - Formation of tube like structure of film.
Fill - Filling of materials into that structure.

Parameters of interest: In order to design a packaging machine a package engineer needs dimension of material, which will be given by the customer. In some cases desired number of packages to be sealed in a minute will also be specified by the customer. Products per minute (PPM) will be a key parameter of the whole process of given length and this given length is called Cut Off Length (COL), it is the total length of the individual package. Crimpers are the actual sealing parts. Packaged in order to get sealed must go in between two shafts place one above the other each consists of equal number of crimpers. While relating COL with PPM it is very much vital to have a clear estimate on the number of crimpers to have. To relate them in a easy way,
Number of crimpers α PPM
COL α 1 / PPM
The next important parameter is the Cutting Head Diameter. Head Diameter is the distance between the center points of two shafts which hold the
We have to know the methods that the marketers use to attract us, and also the factors that make us very confident when buying a specific food product .The article by kim severson “Be It Ever So Homespun, There’s Nothing Like Spin,” Discusses the food packaging issues which I believe are strong ways in misleading people. At the begging of this article, Severson writes about her experience with food and our confusing attraction to the products by their packaging. The part when Severson writes “Something made me uneasy when I dropped a box of organic koala crisp cereal in my shopping cart.” When we think about it, why was it
The protective packaging industry can be segmented three ways by use: positioning, block, and bracing; flexible wraps; and void fill. Coated (e.g., AirCap) and uncoated air bubble products serve the flexible wrap and void fill markets (refer to Glossary). The flexible wrap market, which dwarfs void fill as measured by annual sales, is of primary concern to Sealed Air and will thus constitute the focus of this report.
But there were also issues in packaging that had to be resolved: development of the packaging design was one of his primary concerns at this time. Ultimately, there will have to be manufacturing procedures in accordance with corporate policies and standards: capital equipment selection and procurement, installation of this equipment and startup.
Global: Worldwide packaging shipping volume is increasing as a result of global exchange, e-commerce, and changes in supply-chain management.
The steps to generate the production report is to 1) summarize physical units, 2) summarize costs, 3) calculation of cost per equivalent unit, and 4) assign costs to units transferred out and unit in ending WIP inventory (Heisinger & Hoyle, 2012, page. 202). This method is usually carried out on ready to eat food and processed meat and poultry. This method is a proven way to extend shelf life by killing microorganisms and pathogens, which are the reason processed meat such as deli meats last so long. However, there are negative effects of this method. There is a change in nutritional value and sensory value in foods that have been used in this process. It can change the flavour and can cause vitamin and protein destruction. However, non-thermal methods offer an extension in shelf life without changing the sensory values or nutritional values. It is a low cost method of food processing also. Non thermal methods have a big place in the future of food processing as consumers are becoming more aware of the nutritional value of the food, as well as wanting to save money and enjoy the flavour of the

Step 4. This newly computed number can then be used for all calculations that require the number of completed product to used, for example in our above example with 6000
Govt. of India has chosen to actualize FSSA direction for institutionalization of bundling: FSSA is an essential control for pastry shop. Bread and Biscuits will be stuffed just in standard pack sizes. Unwinding of pressing non-standard sizes will be expelled. The ramifications of the bundling standards will have expansive contact with numerous players have demonstrated a suggestion on estimating.
Many customers will buy more package food in the future as it is cheaper and more convenience because customers can buy it in high volume and keep it for the long time.

The importance attached to packaging cannot be underscored by anybody. Companies use packaging as a marketing strategy and marketing is branded with frequent cases of unethical practices. Customers are always very cautious when dealing with marketers. It is because of this reason that over the time ethical packaging has been evolving and attracting attention from different government authorities for regulation. Nevertheless, businesses that are committed and have cultivated a deep culture of good ethical packaging practices continue to enjoy the benefits of ethical packaging.

Food Preservation is the ways to retain the food quality in a longer times. It is to prevent the food decomposition and fermentation. Besides that, food preservation not only to prevent the food getting spoilt in a long period of time but also preserved the colour, taste and the food nutritive value. Nowadays, food preservation has become more and more important component in the food industry as the consumers expect that able to purchase those foods that are out of season or imported from other countries. Furthermore, there are few reason why food preservation is important in our daily life such as preservation foods when they are in season it may added variety choices in our meals for example smoke meats and
