Personality traits can be manifested as strengths or weaknesses depending on the situation, and personality tests can help individuals maximize strengths and minimize weaknesses within the organizational structure. Organizational behavior is critical to organizational effectiveness, and these tests can also point individuals toward certain careers or organizations that are good fits. Pearson Education’s MyManagementLab (2016) contains a series of personality tests and the following discussion analyzes the results of these tests as they apply to my personality and my career. I will be most productive in organizations that use a variety of non-financial workplace motivations. My work motivation indicator is job orientation, which is the least common motivator globally (Pearson Education, 2016). I do not want my work to interfere with my life, making flexible hours and the ability to work remotely extremely attractive.
Decision Making Insights. I will be most successful when I have all the information necessary for decision-making, as my dominant cognitive styles are planning and knowing. This approach does not leave room for ambiguity and stifles flexibility and creativity. Consequently, I thrive in established organizations that value hierarchy, procedures, and open communication, because they assist my natural cognitive processes. (Pearson Education, 2016)
Other. I have a high multicultural awareness and intercultural sensitivity (Pearson Education, 2016). Despite my low tolerance for the unknown, my international traveling experiences have created a desire to learn about other cultures.
