Recommended: Leadership style and martin luther king

This revolutionary forerunner’s legacy so inspired a father to change his son’s name from Michael King Jr, to one he is better known for today as Martin Luther King Jr, the pioneer of the African American Civil Rights Movement. This essay will describe how Martin Luther, a 16th century German monk, displayed, first, visionary leadership characteristics, and secondly, the challenges he faced as an ethical leader. Finally, it will describe how his example relates to me in my personal relevance.
Visionary Leader
Martin Luther demonstrated the visionary leadership characteristics of change management, diversity, FRLD, and team building to begin a reformation. He started his reform in 1517 when he learned that the Roman Catholic Church was selling indulgences ,a ticket to heaven, in order to rebuild St. Peter’s Basilica. With the individual consideration of others in mind, he recognized this as immoral and saw the need for change and took on the role as change agent. Using the conceptual approach by focusing on principles, ideas and alternatives, he established a sense of urgency when he wrote his Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences, better known as his 95 Theses. In these theses, he reiterates some of the founding beliefs of the church in an effort to initiate change. He then distributes the information to the public in order to include them and stimulate their intellect and then set up a place of meeting to seek different perspectives. He then delivers the same theses to church directors to involve the respected leaders in order to develop his guiding coalition. Thomas N. Through diversity, individual consideration, and intellectual stimulation, he changed the simple minded that led to a reformation. Secondly, this essay described Martin Luther’s struggle with the ethical leadership and critical thinking traits of principle, intellectual humility, integrity, personal biases and prejudices, ethical trap of relativism, and worry over image.. Finally this essay described how Martin Luther’s example related to me and my own hindrance in the bandwagon fallacy. In conclusion, while the facts state that he was not an ethical leader, it did prove that he was a visionary leader. Perhaps that part of his legacy is what inspired the name change of MLK Jr, the pioneer of the African American Civil Rights Movement.

This presence of strong moral values developed King’s character which enabled him to become one of the most influential leaders of our time. Integrity is a central value in a leader’s character and it is through integrity that King had vision of the truth. The truth that one day this nation would live up to the creed, "all men are created equal". No man contributed more to the great progress of blacks during the 1950’s and 1960’s than Martin Luther King, Jr. He was brought up believing "one man can make a difference", and this is just what he did. Integrity has a large effect on what we think, say and do, it is through King’s thoughts and actions that enabled so many people to have trust and faith in him. Through King’s integrity he believed that America, the most powerful and richest nation in the world will lead the way to a revolution of values. This revolution will change the way society views itself, shifting from a "thing-orientated" society to a "person-orientated" society. When this occurs, King believed that racism will be capable of being conquered and this nation will be "Free at last." King’s unconditional love for all humans was another value that strongly influenced his character and allowed him to have such excellent leadership ability.
