Logistic service providers are significant actors in the supply chain as they handle substantial shares of their customers’ activities. Logistics service providers provide their customers with traditional logistics services such as transportation and warehousing and supplementary services such as order administration and track-and-trace services. Logistics performance in the supply chain such as lead-time, flexibility and on-time delivery should be a shared responsibility as they are created by customers, suppliers and logistics service providers. This relationship breeds comfort and familiarity and causes the consumer to continue to do business with your company. This relationship that is built develops a personal relationship, like a friendship and it is one that the consumer cannot get from the store down the road and it is that personal touch of sincerity, of knowing their needs, of servitude that will turn them into lifelong branded customers.
Due to various demographical changes, some of the biggest challenges faced by governments worldwide are service delivery and the manner in which it can be improved. Moreover, the provision of public service is deemed as a core function of government. In South Africa research has indicated that there are approximately four to six service delivery demonstrations per week and an estimated amount of about twenty public service delivery protests monthly. Citizens take to the streets and vandalise public premises such as clinics, police stations, community halls and many more. Moreover, these public demonstrations indicate the views of the republic as well as their faith in the government to deliver. The text below examines reasons why government embark on alternative service delivery mechanisms as well as the role(s) played by voluntary organizations and private contractors in promoting service delivery.
