I will be using the material from block 1 and its resources to gather information to explain how someone 's health and wellbeing is affected by where they live and work. First, I will be summarising what is meant by “health and wellbeing”, wellbeing is subjective to the individual and there are a variety of different factors that are taken into account. An individual 's personal resources and external conditions play a part, as well as how a person feels about the things they experience in their lives. The Whitehall studies which were conducted twice, once during the 1960 's and again during the 1980 's, studied over 28,000 participants. Their findings showed that you are more likely to suffer from ill health such as heart disease, depression, chronic lung disease and suicide if you were In a low status job. This was not because participants were doing unhealthy things, but because of the stress they experienced at work (The Open University 2014c). The government designed the health, work and wellbeing strategy, which was put in place to support employers to find new ways to help employees stay healthy and be productive at work.
