No sooner had a midnight deadline passed without congressional action on a must-pass spending bill than lawmakers launched their time-honored competition over who gets the blame for their collective failure. The Senate floor turned into an organizing ground for dueling discourses early Saturday morning, and officials of the two gatherings—and also the White House and political-extremist gatherings—overflowed the inboxes of correspondents with prewritten proclamations censuring one side or the other. Driven by President Trump, Republicans blamed Senate Democrats for holding prisoner the whole government and medical coverage for many kids over their requests for a movement charge. "This is the conduct of obstructionist washouts, not officials," the White House said in an announcement issued minutes before the clock …show more content…
The White House pledged that no movement talks would happen while the legislature is shut, and organization authorities looked to limit open outrage by enabling offices to utilize remaining assets and by keeping national parks and open grounds somewhat available amid the shutdown as a result, by not closing down the administration as completely as the Obama organization did in 2013. (Source 1) Government shutdowns have the effect of disruption to government services and increased cost to the government due to lost labor. During the 2013 shutdown Standard & Poor's, the financial ratings agency, stated on October 16 that the shutdown had "to date taken $24 billion out of the economy," and "shaved at least 0.6 percent off annualized fourth-quarter 2013 GDP growth." (Source 2) The 2013 shutdown lasted 16 days, beginning on October 1, 2013. During the shutdown, approximately 800,000 federal employees were furloughed for 16 days, while another 1.3 million were required to report to work without known payment
In closing, this book informs us on how the Republicans went crazy and Democrats became useless, and how it’s become a problem. The books unfolds the faults of the Republicans and Democrats “behind the scenes”, and made me more aware of the parties today.
The October Crisis was one of the most memorable defining moments in Canadian history in the 1960s, and it truly tested the length in which Pierre Trudeau would go to stop these terrorist attacks. The October Crisis followed the various violent acts committed by the Front de Libération du Québec who wished for Quebec independence; mailboxes were placed with bombs, and the Montreal Stock Exchange was bombed in 1969. The October Crisis began on October 5, 1970, where James Cross, a British trade commissioner, was kidnapped by the FLQ. In exchange for the safe return of Cross, ransoms were demanded for the FLQ. While the government worked in trying to rescue him, Pierre Laporte, a cabinet minister for Quebec, was captured five days later. On October 15, 1970, the first time the War Measures Act was used during peacetime occurred; Premier Robert Bourassa and Trudeau decided it was necessary in stopping this possible terrorist threat. 450 suspects were arrested by police, most being released right after. Meanwhile, Laporte had been murdered and stuffed in the trunk of a car; this ended most public support for the FLQ and soon the threat of terrorists diminished. Eventually, Cross was discovered and he was
On September 11, 2001 terrorists crashed two American airline airplanes into Twin Towers, killing thousands of people. It was the worst terrorist attack in American history and it showed us that we are not protected by Atlantic and Pacific. It showed us that we could be attacked by anyone at anytime. It showed us that if we will be attacked again that we can only depend on each other and not on other nations to help us. The 9/11 changed people forever, some lost family members or friends, others lost their jobs even so called “American Dream.”
Democracy has been the root of a limited government, the system of which government powers are distributed so that one group of leaders do not have too much influence. The limited government has been structured to keep peace amongst all parties that are involved in the government. And under the U.S. Constitution, citizens are given ultimate power by their right to choose their representatives through the democratic process of voting. Each levels of the government are limited as they have their own responsibilities. The city government has the most local level of government as the residents elect a city council and mayor to represent their interest at the city level. All city governments establish housing and health regulations, and are responsible
Congressional gridlock is primarily caused by opposing parties in the House of Representatives and the Senate. The polarizing
Both authors argued compelling points but Alex Berezow makes it clear that partisanship and the huge amount of division in the country is hurting America not helping it. Matthew Yglesias claims that the pros of partisanship are that elections are predictable and government policies easy to understand but what he does not include is how the pros do not outweigh the cons. I agree with Berezow that America has been split and is continuing to divide and grow angry toward one another which is creating an abundant amount of problems. Berezow explains, “A recent CBS poll showed that 44% of Americans blame Republicans for the shutdown and 35% blame President Obama and the Democrats. A paltry 17% blame both” (Berezow). Americans quickly jumped to conclusion
In order to understand the current political climate, it is necessary to review how the gridlock started. The hostilities between Democrats and Republicans in Congress started in 2010 when President Barack Obama was in power. It was during this year that Republicans won majority of seats in Congress, in state legislatures and governorships. This victory gave them immense

Today, nearly 12 million of our fellow Americans are unemployed. Our hardest hit communities are struggling to hold on. The trend is not reversing. Government has not taken strong enough action. So what can we do about it?
The first article by Ed O’Keffe (“After government shutdown, dozens of lawmakers gave to charity” taken from the February 26, 2014 issue of The Washington Post) exhibits a noticeable clouding of the “big picture” due to personalization and fragmentation biases. These biases implicate an increase in demand for newspapers. The article examines an investigation into the claim that 116 U.S. lawmakers, following the government shutdown, pledged to donate part of their federal salaries to appease voters.
Prior to this trip, I understood at least the basic procedures of the Congressional legislative process. However, it wasn’t until after I participated in the Potomac Summer Institute that I realized just how little I actually knew because each of the steps in the legislative process is nowhere near as simple as a textbook may make them seem.
The United States needs more border control. The Government has put up to long with the struggle to keep unwanted substances and threats out of this country. Border control needs to be increased because of the threat of terrorism, Unneeded drugs, and the safety of U.S. citizens.
...ll have some immediate consequences on the economy, but I believe that these will even out in the short term as our country begins to get back on its feet. A budget that reduces spending will enable us to begin to pay back some of our national debt, which will increase the value of our currency in the world markets. This will in turn give more buying power for our dollar, reducing inflation, and increasing the likelihood of more investing. As you can see, everything starts at the top. If the federal government will straighten themselves out, the rest of the country will follow along.
There are hundreds of natural disasters that occur on the earth on a yearly basis. Some natural disasters are more severe than other natural disasters. disasters include floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and tsunamis. These disasters cause great trauma, stress, major property damage and sometimes death. Natural disasters is any catastrophic event that is caused by nature or the natural processes of the earth. The severity of a disaster are measured in lives lost, economic loss, and the ability of the population to rebuild. The bigger, the population the disaster hits, the more repairs needed. In many cases, these major events are heartbreaking to watch, let alone to experience. (“Natural disasters,” n.d.)
Since 2009 to 2016, the Obama administration deported 2 million undocumented immigrants, 47 percent of these undocumented immigrants had no criminal record. In the U.S. there is an approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants. 8 out of the 11 million undocumented immigrants consist of the U.S. civilian labor. Currently, the President of the United States wants to deport all undocumented immigrants to their foreign country. We are against deportations because it does not abide by the ‘American Dream’. Personally we don't accept deportations because they are inhumane, they separate families, and many undocumented immigrants have lived in the U.S for many years.
