No one likes flight delays. They are a huge inconvenience and can be downright annoying. Whether it is due to weather, malfunctions or strikes, flight delays are a negative aspect of traveling. The best thing to do when a delay occurs is to stay calm and know how to deal with the situation. With the right knowledge there are things that can be done to improve this unfortunate event and take some of the stress out of a delay. Here is how to deal with flight delays.
First, you want to prepare for any possible problems that can arise at the airport. Start by making sure you have all of your travel information with you such as the number of your travel agent as well as flight numbers. Also bring along a book, magazine or music player to keep you busy along with your cell phone. If traveling with children, bring a few of their toys that will help keep them occupied if a delay occurs. When traveling with babies keep formula and bottles in your carry on.
Initially, before you depart to the airport and later discover that there has been a delay, check the status of your flight before you ...
Virgin Atlantic’s Heathrow airport reached full capacity in 2010 (Osborne, 2013). During 2009, stacking delay’s cause by holding at Heathrow Airport accounted for an estimated GBP 60 million with the average hold time of 7.6minutes ("SESAR SWIM Success," 2013). In order to tackle the airspace problem, the European Commission’s response was SESAR, “Single European Sky ATM (air traffic management) Research” ("SESAR," 2010, para. 1). It is the European air traffic control program “capable of ensuring safety and fluidity of air transport” ("SESAR," 2010, para. 1) for Heathrow and surrounding airports for over the next 30 years ("SESAR," 2010). The implementation of the program resulted in results of 25% of optimization and is expected to cut Heathrow’s holding time by more than 25% ("SESAR Efficiency," 2014).

“What time should we leave? Two hours in advance? Three? Four?” Millions of people ask these questions each year before boarding a plane. Between driving, security, walking to the gate, and getting settled, boarding a plane exhausts travelers. But out of all of these different activities, one frustrates and restrains travelers the most: TSA security. People ask why they need all this security, complain about the inconvenience it causes, and ultimately annoys people to no end. Created after 9/11, Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, nationalized airport security, increased screening duration, and supposedly increases security on flights. However, statistics say these added security measures never come to fruition and potentially cost more lives than they save.
Since this is the Middle Realm problem and it is a short term problem people should transition themselves to non-anger. British Airways “canceled all flights from Heathrow and Gatwick Saturday after the IT outage” (article). This IT problem made many travelers without any opportunity to do anything else. Passengers had to wait long lines to check, rebook a flight and reclaim lost luggage. This IT problem created a lot of people at the airport and to reduce that the people were not let into the terminal. Melanie Ware said that “Everyone is upset. There are people in tears” (article). Nussbaum points that this is unimportant and it is an only temporary problem. In addition, after some time people will forget that they were waiting and it loses its importance. If it will lose its importance in the future why to pay attention to it now. Which leads that the anger is not effective because British Airways will not change anything within a short period of time. Even though airplane outrage does not happen often when it happens people are affected and they face anger problem at the plane
The United States spends billions on transportation safety to prevent terrorist or any type of attack on American citizens. Airport security are one of the major problems that the government faces, and the solution is the TSA, also known as the Transportation Security Administration. Passengers believe the TSA is effective in abolishing problems such as terrorism, however, this is not the case. Airport security is not effectively protecting the passengers which is shown through the negligence and violations of the TSA employees, ineffective profiling techniques used by the TSA, and unqualified workers that are placed to protect citizens.
Fifteen years ago on September 11th the US came to a screeching halt when nineteen men armed with utility knives hijacked four airplanes and crashed them into the world trade centers in New York City, which nearly killed three thousand citizens. This is why airport security needed to be increased.
Let’s start with why have the flight delays increased so much since 1978.It all seemed like a

Living in the twenty-first century, we believe everything is supposedly safe. Almost thirteen years later after the life-changing 9/11 terrorists attacks, more than ever has security been a number one priority. Are the appropriate precautions being taken to protect people as they fly? People are now afraid to do anything that will cause suspicion and became an inconvenience to others when they are going through the protocol at airports. Fears of revolutionary time were limited because of the simplified modes of transportation. Planning and taking precautions were not something people took time to think about as Thomas Paine indicates “to pass from the extremes of danger to safety-from the tumult of war to the tranquility of peace.” (Paine 1) While time has past since Paine’s inspirational words were written, people have become flustered about the overwhelming hassle they have to endure to just to board a plane but what is consistent is the fact that something is being done to protect the people.
jams, airport gates, on hold with the tech line. An inflexible networked system needs only one glitch, a delayed flight, to
International airlines are greatly affected by trade relations that their country has with others. Unless governments of the two countries trade with each other, there could be restrictions of flying into particular area leading to a loss of potential air traffic (e.g. Pakistan & India)
My heart was pounding as I boarded my flight leaving the Bangkok International Airport. A flight attendant in a grey dress with a red bow draped over her shoulder announced; “Welcome aboard flight AA350 to the United States.” My journey began that day.
Doug Taylor explains that preparation for work normally happens a few days before the trip actually starts. The reason for this is because he is a “commuting” pilot, he is based in an airport out of state so he flies into his base airport the day before to make “sign in”. At the gate, the gate agent verifies my identification and gives me paperwork for the flight. I begin preflighting the cockpit and check various systems, and make sure that all of the indications are appropriate and safe to fly. The gate agent comes down and sees if the flight attendants are ready for passengers, I go downstairs to the tarmac and complete the exterior preflight of the airplane. Once back to the cockpit and the captain and I begin the “before start checklist”. The captain goes over the paperwork while the lead flight attendant will close the cockpit door. We push back, start the engines, coordinate with ramp and ground control to taxi out to the runway for
Aviation security plays a vital role in the aviation industry, from protecting passengers, staff and aircraft. The aviation industry, more specifically airports and aircraft, make prime targets for malicious harm, crime, and other threats because of the vast amount of people that use air transportation. Although there are many risks that are posed to the aviation industry, we can only hope to have learned from the history of airport bombings, hijackings, and sabotage terrorist attacks. The aviation industry faces threats at each step of the journey, but assessing the risks properly will help deter and mitigate these threats. Conducting risk analysis in today’s aviation security is not only important to the aviation industry, but it is important
There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage. Traveling across the world or even across the country is a learning experience. When you are a traveler you see how people live and how different cultures work. It is the best educational experience you could give yourself. You see how the world works in a way no one can teach you. Seeing different cultures and people help build the person you want to be. If you are a traveler the world influences you, because when traveling, you see the good and the bad, and you learn from the right and the wrong. I am very lucky that I am able to be a traveler and see this
