Personal Narrative: My Journey To The United States

My heart was pounding as I boarded my flight leaving the Bangkok International Airport. A flight attendant in a grey dress with a red bow draped over her shoulder announced; “Welcome aboard flight AA350 to the United States.” My journey began that day. I recall my first time arriving on U.S. soil from the Dallas International Airport and absorbing as many sights, sounds, and aromas as my brain could process. I felt a sensory overload. Everything was big, loud, fast, and beautifully bright at the same time. My excitement surely played a role in the exaggerated effects of my surroundings, but I enjoyed every second of it. It felt as though I had it all figured out. It has been four years since I moved to America, and three years since my graduation from high school. Most of what I have learned came from my time out of high school. While I value my time in high school and still reflect on how quickly I adapted and succeeded, my two years out of high school has taught me how to live life. There is so much more than making friends and building a great GPA. There is the love of helping others, volunteering, working towards something bigger than yourself, and most importantly understanding yourself. Since high school, I have become a dental assistant helping others to improve their smiles. Prior to that, I helped people with their orders at a local restaurant. No job is too big or too small. I have realized that there are many paths I can take here in this great country. The best thing about this country is that the only limitation to how far you go on the path you choose is yourself. With the right amount of motivation, I can adapt and become anything I set my mind
