There are many different types of ways to communicate with others. Different components make up the process of communication; there are nonverbal and unwritten factors such as facial expressions, tone and body language. It is important to know how these key elements can change the way a message is received. Examples of these types of demonstrative communication factors will be discussed in this paper.

An example of an effective form of demonstrative communication is one’s appearance, the way a person presents themselves says a lot about that person. A person who is well groomed will likely convey those same mannerisms into their work and will also leave an impressionable effect on their future or present employer. Another example of effective demonstrative communication is eye contact, a person who is focused and paying attention will give great eye contact and not look away. If there is a meeting and you have a couple of employees who are not engaged, you will notice that by their eye contact and even their body language. While there are effective ways of demonstrative communication, there are also ineffective ways of demonstrative communication. For example, tone of voice is a huge problem for most people, they mean something one way but their tone of voice will project something totally different. There have been times where I may say something to someone that is meant to be nice but because of the tone of my voice, there was an issue. Some people are not big talkers but you always understand what they are saying by their actions, body language and facial expressions. Another positive indicator is when a person has their body relaxed and facing the sender, this projects active listening skills which are always a plus. Direct contact with the person is important but not in an uncomfortable way. Using a soft tone voice is also a great positive indicator; it conveys sincerity and positive reception of the message being sent. Negative indicators would be wandering eyes, constant movement of an arm or leg; these signal that a person is bored or not interested in the message being sent. Folding arms leaves a negative impression also; it signals that a person is not open to receiving the message that is being delivered. The receiver can also experience negative and positive effects of demonstrative communication, for example if a sender is being aggressive or using a negative tone when delivering the message, the receiver may feel uncomfortable or threatened. It is important to speak slowly and with a gentle tone when talking to someone if you want that person to really understand what is being said. Knowing other forms of communication is important because it can help to decrease negative behaviors for those who are non-verbal, and to understand their wants and needs. Many Autistic children have trouble with socializing and understanding different facial features, tones of voice, body language. For a non-verbal Autistic child the level of difficulty increases along with the chance of them becoming frustrated. There are ways to improve your performance in physically receiving messages. Leaning toward the speaker and facing them shows that you are in the conversation. (Warren & Windle) Maintaining an open posture by keeping the legs and arms uncrossed and relaxed shows you are open to what is being said. Just being an appropriate distance from the speaker gives a feeling of involvement, with out seeming detached or aggressive. Maintaining appropriate expressions and nodding to show your still involved and that you understand or agree.

In terms of design and workplace as well as cultural variations non-verbal communication plays an important role in these places. Now the communication class is almost over I have realize how important is to have good communication skills, and how it is key to life. I have learned many things in this class for example ways to approach strangers. Another thing that I have learned how to handle conflict and how sometimes it could be good it not always bad and many others. The way I look things have change to have reach my goals.
