CREDIBILITY; In business writing, establishing credibility is very crucial to conveying the information the source intended. Creating credibility in the writing gives an appeal to the receiver or audience. It is about convincing the receiver to trust and respect the writer enough to take action. In order to be credible enough, it’s good for the writer to know the audience or receiver as it helps you say things that the receiver wants to hear. For example; I once wrote a business proposal to a client of mine, having listened to him on the kind of business venture he hopes to engage in. When writing in a business setup, I have to consider the person or if it is a group of people, I have to consider it too. As tone is the unique style a person use to convey the message. Tone in writing tells a lot of person’s personality. It is good to use an active tone and also write from the point of view of the receiver or the person that was meant to read it, and also avoid what expresses doubt in the mind of the receiver. Example of tone I have used in writing is when I was trying to convince my husband on the kind of business we will establish. Instead of using the words, “what business in Las Vegas lacks is” I use “the business lacks”. CLARITY; Clarity is the most important strategy in good business writing. It is good to write in sentences, the readers or audience understands. Clarity involves use of plain English and also for the writer to be specific and reduce enthusiasm. Clear writing is the writing that cannot be understood. Example is writing “imminent” instead of “likely” which the message simpler for the person reading to understand. EXPECTATION; To achieve a good writing the author has to consider the receiver and make sure it meets the expectations of the readers/audience. In the play Doubt, by John Patrick Shanly, Sister Aloysius is treating Father Flynn unfairly. Sister Aloysius is the principal of St. Nichols School, who is suspicious and always doubt everyone, especially Father Flynn. She thinks that Father Flynn is guilty, but has no proof. Sister Aloysius doesn’t like Father Flynn in the school and his ideas. She treats him unfairly. Sister Aloysius treats Father Flynn unfairly when she still accuses Father Flynn of giving the altar wine to Donald Muller after Father Flynn tells her the truth. She treats him unfairly by forcing him to request the transfer without proving if Father Flynn is guilty or not and also makes him resign by lying about his past.

Every piece of writing has a voice, we've already established that. But even in the same piece of writing, the same "speaker" or "voice" may take on different tones, depending on the purpose behind the writing. Sometimes it can make the piece a bit confusing, as if the speaker is distracted. However, I think that using different tones in the same voice makes that voice seem more human, more real, more identifiable. Basically, it makes me like the writing more, even if it is poorly done.
