I remember the day I had fallen down on the hard concrete in the community parking lot unable to stand up, powerless as I was in great pain. It was a cold Sunday morning in the middle of Fall as I skated in the parking lot. On top of the asphalt laid a layer of scattered leaves with a few acorns. On the sides of the parking lot, sat 5 big trees absorbing the morning sunshine with the scattered branches in them. On the very far corner of the parking lot was a parked van which looked like it was abandoned. And in the entrance of the parking lot was a speed bump with its white stripes on it. I skated in a circle with my mom running at my side, while I tried not to fall even though I had all the safety pads on me. As I skated in circles in the lot, my …show more content…
Looking at the speed I was going at, I force myself a fall. Not thinking my idea through, I force fell onto my right hand. As my hand had taken in the force, pain surged through my body, forcing my muscles to go limp. I sat on the asphalt in pain with no energy left in my body, powerless. After sitting on the asphalt for a while in pain, I slowly got up, holding my mom’s hand. Then I walked slowly with my skates on my feet to a nearby bench outside of the parking lot. Then with my mom’s help, I took off my skates and I walking home slowly like an old man. After coming home my mom took her scarf that was that sofa and made me a temporary sling. Thinking that my arm would become better in a few hour, my mom left to go to the kitchen to make lunch as I started to watch slow motion videos of explosions. Every now and then, I tried to put my hand in a fist but, was stopped by the pain my hand. After 2 hours of watching explosions, my right arm started to pain uncontrollably, frighted by the pain in my arm I told my mom to go to the hospital to figure out what actually happen. My mom and I rush to the hospital in her
It’s an experience I remember vividly. Each time I would pull up to the cone, turn the wheel, and try to get into the small area without bumping the curb or the cone. When I had first started practicing I tended to hit the curb or the cone a lot. Sometimes I would accidentally run over the curb and be on the grass. Parallel parking was a trying experience, but an important lesson. Without knowing how to parallel park, I wouldn’t have been able to pass the test to get my license. Each time I failed getting the car into the space, I could try to figure out what I did wrong and apply it to the next try.
It was similar to the suburban street I grew up on, but in lieu of cookie-cutter houses with stale Bermuda grass, there stood wood cabins with yards covered in snow. The reddish-orange light emanating from the towering street lights pierced through a white fog and gently illuminated the area. Exiting the car, I was overwhelmed with a flurry of new sensations. The gently falling snow absorbed all of the sounds I was used to hearing in a residential area. The low hum of passing cars, birds singing from the trees, and the sound of blowing wind appeared to be muffled, even silenced, by the steady falling snow. I felt enveloped in a cool, but somehow familiar blanket. The smell of burning wood was coming from every direction, as each house I looked at had a thin, grayish plume rising gently from the chimney. The plumes represented the warmth and comfort of the many people I imagined to be nestled by the fire. Looking down the street, I noticed how freshly plowed it was. A thin layer of snow and ice-- like icing on a cupcake, or the glass top on my parent’s nightstand-- covered the street. But on the side of the street sat a pile of snow that could have swallowed me alive. Feeling taunted, I stood there and weighed my options. Chest deep mounds of frozen crystals begged me to dive in and lose myself. Preparing to succumb to the temptations before me, I was momentarily hindered by the fear of my parent’s wrath. But had that ever stopped me
I wasn’t even outside but I could feel the warm glow the sun was projecting all across the campsite. It seemed as if the first three days were gloomy and dreary, but when the sun on the fourth day arose, it washed away the heartache I had felt. I headed out of the trailer and went straight to the river. I walked to the edge, where my feet barely touched the icy water, and I felt a sense of tranquility emanate from the river. I felt as if the whole place had transformed and was back to being the place I loved the most. That day, when we went out on the boat, I went wakeboarding for the first time without my grandma. While I was up on the board and cutting through the wake of the boat, it didn’t feel like the boat was the one pulling and guiding me, it felt like the river was pushing and leading me. It was always nice to receive the reassurance from my grandma after wakeboarding, but this time I received it from my surroundings. The trees that were already three times the size of me, seemed to stand even taller as I glided past them on the river. The sun encouraged me with its brightness and warmth, and the River revitalized me with its powerful currents. The next three days passed by with ease, I no longer needed to reminisce of what my trips used to be like. Instead, I could be present in the moment, surrounded by the beautiful natural
Since the property is a double frontage lot, fronting a local street (scenic view Rd) and adjacent to a collector/arterial street (US Highway 89), the following needs to be met to be in full compliance with the City of Page code of ordinances.
Bus Boycott of Montgomery was the beginning of the Civil Rights movement, which was sparked by the arrest of forty-three year old seamstress Rosa Parks, when she refused to give her seat up to a white passenger standing on a segregated city bus in Montgomery, Alabama, on December 5, 1955, and ended December 20, 1956.
Driven to Frustration: An Analysis of CSULB’s Parking Crisis As a college transfer student attending California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), I immediately observed that the majority of students at this institution commute to campus. I have heard a multitude of complaints regarding the persistent parking congestion occurring on campus. Many of my friends have told me about the frustrations of commuting to school daily, while this chaos continues to happen. Students attempting to attend courses or just be on campus are unnecessarily tense due to the amount of parking lots and services dispersed throughout the upper campus.
When I was five years old,I had my first fracture, I fell off my brother’s tricycle while I was standing on it to reach for the light switch, I fell right on my left arm which resulted in fracture of my humerus and damage to my elbow ligaments, my arm was immobilized in a cast for about six weeks, after the cast was removed, I could not flex my elbow at all, I also had difficulty using my arm, I started range of motion and strengthening exercise till my arm was back to normal, it was a difficult but enjoyable process as well and I felt so proud of myself. This led me to find an interest in rehabilitation. I pursued this path and earned a B.A. in physiotherapy with the hope of improving the lives of others.
Independent contractors are self-employed, and due to not being considered employees, they are not protected by labor and relevant tax laws. Many employers, for example, Uber or another ride sharing service, take advantage of this to dodge taxes, avoid paying benefits, and evade various other liabilities. The definition of an employee is not completely black and white, and no one standard can differentiate between employees and independent contractors. The "20-Factor Test" is an assessment of employment status by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
I pulled into the driveway of my house and parked my car. I grabbed my coat and bag and opened the door. When I got out I instantly began to smell the sweet aroma of the long rose bushes making their way out of our fence and into the world of our driveway. I was so captivated by the fall breeze, and the beautiful smell of fall in the air that I didn't even know that I was to the door. As I snapped back into reality, I looked up and I was standing at my doorway.
With music blasting, voices singing and talking, it was another typical ride to school with my sister. Because of our belated departure, I went fast, too fast. We started down the first road to our destination. This road is about three miles long and filled with little hills. As we broke the top of one of the small, blind hills in the middle of the right lane was a dead deer. Without any thought, purely by instinct I pulled the wheel of the car to the left and back over to the right. No big deal but I was going fast. The car swerved back to the left, to the right, to the left. Each time I could feel the car scratching the earth with its side. My body jolted with the sporadic movements of the car. The car swerved to the right for the last time. With my eyes sealed tight, I could feel my body float off the seat of the car.
We slowly crept around the corner, finally sneaking a peek at our cabin. As I hopped out of the front seat of the truck, a sharp sense of loneliness came over me. I looked around and saw nothing but the leaves on the trees glittering from the constant blowing wind. Catching myself standing staring around me at all the beautiful trees, I noticed that the trees have not changed at all, but still stand tall and as close as usual. I realized that the trees surrounding the cabin are similar to the being of my family: the feelings of never being parted when were all together staying at our cabin.
Also, with the ability to make thin film solar, parking garages can now become mini power plants. What are the tops of parking garages used for anyway? Why not use them to create energy efficient, planet friendly electricity? In large cities where there are multiple parking garages, the garage can power the business that who’s employees park there.
After three hours we arrived at our first break stop. We stopped at a section that was on top of the waterfall. The view was amazing and spectacular because we had never seen anything like this. As we continued our hike after several more break stops, and nine more hours of hiking, we finally arrived at the top of El Capitan. Once we got to the top the view was amazing. We could not imagine how beautiful it was up there on top of the world. After about half an hour we started heading back down, when all of a sudden out of no where I felt someone push me out of the way. A man that was in a hurry to get back down pushed me so hard, that I lost my balance and fell of a twenty foot cliff. At that moment in time I could see flashbacks of my life. After a couple seconds of falling I somehow landed between two rocks which shattered my right foot. After that happen every one that was there tried to get help but unfortunately cell phones do not work in Yosemite, but the man that pushed me over the cliff had a walky-talky and he called for help.
As I turned around to begin the journey towards my hopeless shot, disregarding the obvious mistake I was making, it hit me. The pressure from the sudden unexpected impact on the tip of my left elbow shot through my entire body quickly and painfully. The pain shot from my elbow, through my arm, down through my legs, then back up to my other arm, and finally to my head. The pain was strong and sharp. It felt as though I had fallen on an electric cattle fence, and it had given me one strong electrical shock that overtook my whole body with pain for a split second.
Oh my God! TJ!“ It was just my mom.She was crying and calling my name again and again.I was so embarrassed and disappointed of my self.I had let her down. After, two of the EMT guys put us on an ambulance. Finally,we made our way to the hospital. My friend john and me were sent in palo alto medical center. It took us about fifteen minute to get there. My friend john was alright. He had a couple of stitches in his head and his arm. He got relieved after a couple of tests but, I was severely injured. I was lying on a hospital bed and thinking what I would have done in the past. Cause this terrible accident happened to me. I was sent to el camino hospital, where I went to the operation theater for my hipbones surgery. The doctor told me after surgery that my hipbones was fractured the reason they had to put a plate in hipbones to stay together.Although, my left arm was also fractured the reason I could not feel my arm. After surgery, they took me to the other room and gave me a couple of injections. Momentarily, I went to sleep. I woke up in the next day and thinking hopefully it was just a dream, but it’s not. I opened my eyes and saw a couple of relative looking me like a stranger. My dad came over my bed and gave me a hug and I literally started crying after thinking about the accident. I could not believe after a massive car accident I was still alive. Doctors kept in hospital couple of
