Many years ago when I was a freshman in high school, an event happened to me that changed my life for the better. My friend invited me to go hiking with him and his sister. He was going to go hiking in Yosemite. The following day I prepared myself mentally and physically in order to accomplish this hike. While on the road my friend’s sister and I got to know each other very well. We talked about how we were doing in school, and many other things. As time went by we could see the mountains getting closer and closer to us. We could not wait to climb El Capitan. When we finally arrived, we unpacked and got ready to hike El Capitan. On the way up the hike we had a great time because as we hiked up we talked about how cool it was going to be up there on top of the world. After three hours we arrived at our first break stop. We stopped at a section that was on top of the waterfall. The view was amazing and spectacular because we had never seen anything like this. As we continued our hike after several more break stops, and nine more hours of hiking, we finally arrived at the top of El Capitan. Once we got to the top the view was amazing. We could not imagine how beautiful it was up there on top of the world. After about half an hour we started heading back down, when all of a sudden out of no where I felt someone push me out of the way. A man that was in a hurry to get back down pushed me so hard, that I lost my balance and fell of a twenty foot cliff. At that moment in time I could see flashbacks of my life. After a couple seconds of falling I somehow landed between two rocks which shattered my right foot. After that happen every one that was there tried to get help but unfortunately cell phones do not work in Yosemite, but the man that pushed me over the cliff had a walky-talky and he called for help.
There are many things in everyday life that can be taken for granted. As a young teen just barely over the age of 13 I had yet to gain an understanding of the hard work that life is, and what it really takes to survive in this world. It wasn’t until I took a three week long Outward Bound wilderness survival course when I gained essential life skills that would help me through the challenges that life would place in front of me. This trip played a significant role during my upbringing by teaching me to take responsibility for failure, getting out of my comfort zone by working with new people on common goals, and helped me gain a deeper appreciation for my hardworking folks.
The water still surged in between my legs as I stood completely soaked to the bone. I realized just how fast the water was moving. The signs that they had posted everywhere about the fast moving water were something I should have paid more attention to. As I got to the edge where I could climb out, there was my mother with the camera taking pictures of my own stupidity. That was the defining moment for Montana; those few seconds of adrenaline filled terror. That slight mountain breeze now was bone chilling. Luckily, the truck wasn’t parked too far away and I had a change of clothes available. This little joy ride had lasted for only a couple of seconds. I swear to this day that someone higher decided to smite me that day but in a hurry changed their mind. Probably was a good thing I hadn't been wearing my glasses or I would have lost them for sure. I came close to the edge of death that day, and this would only be the second of several close encounters with death.I almost lost the game that day. Made me realize how special the gift of life really is. This does not stop me from bragging about my encounters however. Never have I been in a severe life threatening situation, so I can not say that I have been to the edge but I feel like I have been as close as one could
A person does not experience many events that shape their life in a large way, whether it be for better or worse. I have had just one major situation that has sculpted me into the person that I am today. In February of 2008, I was diagnosed with a life changing disease; it would relieve me of the agony I had been experiencing for as long as I could remember, but also restrict my diet for the rest of my life.
Everyone has a special event that determines our life journey. This event can give us identity, happiness or even pain and sadness. The special event that changed my life was deciding to play basketball because basketball helped me find peace, happiness and gave me identity. When I was ten years old my grandfather succumbed to cancer. His death created hatred inside of me.
Going to Yellowstone park for the first time was very exciting and scary. First, my dad bought the tickets for my family. Then he drove us to the park.My dad drove the car for maybe 1 hour. Suddenly ,I saw many people stopped and looking along the road. I wondered why many people stood here. "What happened?" I asked my mom. I use the telescope to see what happened. And I saw something, something very huge, it was a bear! A grizzly bear! "Wow!"I gasped and get out of the car and takes a lot of Photos to thes big brown bear. Then I was saw something unusual, a guy was trying to get Closed to the grizzly bear! Someone shouted, "That guy is crazy!" Then I looking for that guy,now he and brown bear was only a few feet apart! Then the Bear stand
Everyone has a story, a pivotal moment in their life that started to mold them into the person they are today and may even continue to mold you to the person that you will become, I just had mine a little bit earlier than others. When I was three years old my brother became a burn survivor. It may seem too early for me to remember, but I could never forget that day. Since then, I have grown, matured and realized that what my family and I went through has been something of a benefit to be and an experience that has helped me in deciding what I want to do with the rest of my life.
My journey to Brazil it was just like a dream that come true, I remember when I decided to change myself but I couldn’t find what really would make me take the first step, so the journey to Brazil has done me a favor , it was the first step to what I really wanted to accomplish, I was shy and unsocial but in this journey I had changed ,I had started to talk with strangers and make friendships with everyone and that was inner challenge for me and I never
stood upon, was frightening. The only was to go was down. I took a deep
A blast of adrenaline charges throughout my body as I experience the initial drop. My body's weight shifts mechanically, cutting the snow in a practiced rhythm. The trail curves abruptly and I advance toward a shaded region of the mountain. Suddenly, my legs chatter violently, scraping against the concealed ice patches that pepper the trail. After overcompensating from a nearly disastrous slip, balance fails and my knees buckle helplessly. In a storm of powder snow and ski equipment, body parts collide with nature. My left hand plows forcefully into ice, cracking painfully at the wrist. For an eternity of 30 seconds, my body somersaults downward, moguls of ice toy with my head and further agonize my broken wrist. Ultimately veering into underbrush and pine trees, my cheeks burn, my broken wrist surging with pain. Standing up confused, I attempt climbing the mountain but lose another 20 feet to the force of gravity.
Each of us had learned something from that trip. For me, this experience has taught me what gratitude is, the impact a good attitude has, what a servant looks like, and really how the relationships we make with our life are the most important aspect of life. It was the summer after my freshman year of high school. Earlier in the year, my parents had decided that they wanted to go on a mission trip as a family and serve somewhere.
Disappointment, disbelief and fear filled my mind as I lye on my side, sandwiched between the cold, soft dirt and the hot, slick metal of the car. The weight of the car pressed down on the lower half of my body with monster force. It did not hurt, my body was numb. All I could feel was the car hood's mass stamping my body father and farther into the ground. My lungs felt pinched shut and air would neither enter nor escape them. My mind was buzzing. What had just happened? In the distance, on that cursed road, I saw cars driving by completely unaware of what happened, how I felt. I tried to yell but my voice was unheard. All I could do was wait. Wait for someone to help me or wait to die.
An Event which changed my life, well when, I think back on my life there’s
I made the choice to ride my bike down a steep hill, as a result I crashed. I was hit so hard on impact my bike pedal went just about half way through my leg. This happened at a bad time as the football season started in two weeks. But because I made the decision to go down that hill I was on crutches for two months and the doctors said I was lucky I did not tear any tendons in my knee or even hit a main artery and bleed out on the spot. I was crushed, I remember telling myself “I will never be able to get back to normal”. But I stayed strong, with the help of my family, friends, and even teachers. When I felt weakest I would always think of how much I took the life around me for granted, everyday things that were now made difficult were the most missed. I never thought I would miss walking, running, playing sports, or even showering. But I did. It was like being trapped in a glass box-stuck, forced to watch the World around me. This taught me the importance of living your life to the fullest, and doing what you love with your time, because you never know how much time you have left to do the things you love. With this I learned to truly enjoy just the simplest things in life, and don't take them for granted because you never know when you could be back in the glass box
Oh my God! TJ!“ It was just my mom.She was crying and calling my name again and again.I was so embarrassed and disappointed of my self.I had let her down. After, two of the EMT guys put us on an ambulance. Finally,we made our way to the hospital. My friend john and me were sent in palo alto medical center. It took us about fifteen minute to get there. My friend john was alright. He had a couple of stitches in his head and his arm. He got relieved after a couple of tests but, I was severely injured. I was lying on a hospital bed and thinking what I would have done in the past. Cause this terrible accident happened to me. I was sent to el camino hospital, where I went to the operation theater for my hipbones surgery. The doctor told me after surgery that my hipbones was fractured the reason they had to put a plate in hipbones to stay together.Although, my left arm was also fractured the reason I could not feel my arm. After surgery, they took me to the other room and gave me a couple of injections. Momentarily, I went to sleep. I woke up in the next day and thinking hopefully it was just a dream, but it’s not. I opened my eyes and saw a couple of relative looking me like a stranger. My dad came over my bed and gave me a hug and I literally started crying after thinking about the accident. I could not believe after a massive car accident I was still alive. Doctors kept in hospital couple of
